The trick is to keep creating-which is what you're doing- despite the pressures of the world that work against imagination. It's a worthy battle in the end!
I remember listening to this album on the way back to my country (new zealand) all the way from Canada, to meet my long distance girlfriend. The memories I created in that month were like the most blissful dream i ever had, and i couldn't believe that it had happened. I remember the plane wheels touching down on the tarmac while "Spirit Lamp" played. Your music has always been my safe place, somewhere I can reminisce about things i miss, or suppress the loneliness I so often experience. Thank you Mike.
You're very welcome. Music memory is similar to scent memory, in that hearing or smelling something can transport you back to a (hopefully) fond memory. It's nice to know my own work has created a doorway to an indelible experience you can enjoy.
this new one extremely delicious. interesting that earthier side of ambient been emphasis this season. this release right in sync with current aesthetic wave. rich roach eno. thanks for all these years with your website. it's been awesome. am out there listening and giving the people am connected to on-line the link opportunities to enjoy and support your art. *aloha & mahalo* from the shores of haleakala \ ' ' ' /
Wow... Another stellar effort by Altus. I really feel like I'm "out there" in space just looking around and observing the beauty and awesome wonder of what's out there. Thanks so much for posting.
With this album, you're able to dig even deeper with your sonic meanderings. As a result, it helps me visualize my animation work and sort out a narrative of my own. Big fan of your work! :)
d'une Beauté discrète,ce dernier opus sonore est une vraie perle. quel voyage! Take a break in the rush ! et laissez-vous porter... en un mot , MAGNIFIQUE !
beautiful ---one of your finest works ---was a huge fan of the 24 Hours series ,Winter Embrace and Komorebi ---the final 15 minutes of this is extraordinary -thank you
Sorry for the late reply. I am still going through your older work and will stop for a while to check this one out soon, which I already know is awesome. Your fan for life, come hell or high water. JY
Desde un Hotel de cerca de Barcelona y Tarragona.. deleitando lo más profundo de mis sentidos con esta bella música .. Absoluto viaje al misterio del destino .. pasado .. presente . Futuro.. Allá donde las almas positivas residen.. Místico.. Profundo... .....
It is too inspiring, it reminds me something that we would have to remember, something close to a knowledge that we lost. It is profound. I suppose I do not have words to explain the feeling hearing this sounds. Who developed? Incredible. Tks.
Mortal soil, that's a Drac Chant.. its the call of that huge inflated elementary school star dome with the lazer pointer...and a private knowledge in these transits....... its affirmative of something confrontational.. ..and of comings and goings...
Should be ; Book to Movie to Gate Opener for headtravelin' excess for the willing and most importantly ABLEMINDED masses 😁the Kindar should be proud of this work !!!9!!!
I'm curious to what extent ambient musicians share ideas amongst one another - the genre in general so appeals to my need for calming and filling the spaces with peace to help me focus - Altus, Brian Eno, Steve Roach, Seconds Before Awakening, Arctica, Steve Lawlor - any idea sharing or are all independently going down the path to ambience?
That's partially correct. It's based on the game, which was a continuation from the trilogy of novels. You can read more about it here: altusmusic.bandcamp.com/album/below-the-root/
Great! I played the game in the ´80ties when I was adolescent... In an Apple ][, loved to play as Pomma for her spirit skills... I also readed the Green Sky Trilogy! A lot of dreams with giant trees... All these inspiring vibrations from Green Sky rounded our world... I´m located in Brazil!
Is there a way to legally play Below the root on pc? The music is very soothing and nice for sleep. Below the root is a game i played as a kid on my grandfathers Apple ii. He is gone...and this reminds me of him.♥️
The game is essentially abandonware. It's a grey zone, legally speaking, but no one is going to sue you for playing it. It's available as disc images which you can play with an emulator on a number of different sites that archive old games. You can also play it in a browser, but I'm not sure how saving works. The Apple II version is what I played as a kid as well. 🙂 www.myabandonware.com/game/below-the-root-3e archive.org/details/msdos_Below_the_Root_1984
This game deserves a new edition for Android/iOS. It was my favorite game when I was young... I played it in a TK 3000, basically an Brazillian Apple IIe clone. It inspired me a lot!
Thanks. It's something I'd been wanting to do for over a decade. The original idea was to find a lone tree. Photograph it in summer, and again in winter. Then Photoshop it as seen here. But I could never find a landscape that matched what I was looking for. Luckily the artist Craig Pineo (who is also a fan of my music) was able to produce such an image. 🙂
If you think about the a tree and its root system, it is a toroidally field. Just like our own circulation system. There are many other examples in the Universe. The Big Bang being the Grand Torus.

Having just read the book, I am happily conjuring images from the ever detailed story and applying them to this lovely music :)
This.... is so beautiful and reviving!
A beautiful symphonic journey, tinged with melancholy....this is aural perfection.
Thank you. :)
Altus My pleasure.
Total agreement !!!9!!!

I can't say with any certainty regarding direct sharing of ideas, but we certainly get inspired from music produced by our peers. :)
GORGEOUS! It was inspired on the Green Sky Trilogy, from Zilpha Keatley Snyder, not?
That's partially correct. It's based on the game, which was a continuation from the trilogy of novels. You can read more about it here: altusmusic.bandcamp.com/album/below-the-root/

Used to play this as a kid on my late grandfathers Apple ii. This game gives me memories of him.
@@edgostyn indeed a masterpiece game that brings back lots of memories from childhood
My God
Why not to create a music inspired on "The Colors of Space" from Marion Zimmer Bradley?
I'll have to check out the book. I'm not familiar with it.
Nice "As above, so below" symbolism.......

Альбом огонь) позор дизлайщику!
Вероятно, из-за более темного звука. Не всем это нравится.
