- What happens when you have 2 drummers from the same band in the same room? Of course, one of them has to take over lead vocals! Bob Burns, the original drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd, came in for a rehearsal of The Artimus Pyle Band for the 2013 Rock Legends Cruise, where he will be joining the band for portions of their shows. Since Bob originally played Sweet Home Alabama, Artimus (The 2nd drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd) decided he could take on a new role in the band for some fun. Bob and Artimus were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame as members of Lynyrd Skynyrd for their contribution as the two drummers that played on all of the Gold and Platinum albums with Ronnie Van Zant. Bob Burns was drummer on the original Lynyrd Skynyrd album, and left the band due to personal reasons. Artimus Pyle became the drummer after Bob, and the two maintain a friendship/brotherhood.

I needed to say this Artimus gets my vote to include Bob burns in some of this stuff that to me is what a real band is about it's brotherhood.

They played together breifly in LS before Artimus took over full time between Second Helping and Nothing Fancy. They been friends since. Bob Burns was Never out of Skynyrd. He is one of the 4 founders. Ronnie, Gary, Allen and Bob. He just had some issues. He was a good Man. RIP Bob Burns

OH Lordy, this has to be the best thing I have seen and heard all day. Would pay a hundred just to have sat in with them. They sound more like the original than the current lineup.
Artimus's friendship with Bob was such a cool thing. It's not often the original members are friends with their replacement like that.
Artimus was a "Bob Burns fan" always gave him props and was always supportive, the kinship between them was a special thing.
Bob was an insightful man with a good heart which to me is always the foundation of any truly great musician. He always knew what to play and when to play it. This video is so awesome, Bob is spot on and rockin'

Artimus got together with Ed King, Leslie Hawkins, Jo Jo Billingsley and Himself with a good lead singer and it was great to see them all four playing again. Their lead singer was Thane if I remember correctly. It is worth checking out.
It would be really cool to have either Bob Burns or Artimus Pyle play drums for Skynyrd now. It would make the band a little bit more like it used to be.
Unfortunately Bob has passed and Artimus will NEVER play for them again
Carolina mixer, thanks for posting this gem. To see the beautiful spirit of musical generosity and the friendship between two legends was an absolute treat. This band is outstanding. They were so respectful of a song that many hack to pieces. Bob looked great and played perfectly. Artimus, hang in there boss. We love you.
Of all the Skynyrd members, past, present, deceased and otherwise...I would like to hang out with Artimus if given the chance. That dude was so cool back in the day and still is today. As a drummer in my youth (not very talented, I might add), I would sit and listen to them as a kid and zero in on his drumming. It is awesome to be able to see him then and now on UA-cam.

The man's a UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS COMBAT VETERAN. Show some respect! There is plenty of people that are quick to judge & take all that someone else has worked their butt off for, but very few reaching in their wallet or pocket book to give! Like those who were not in the band.(Judy-Judy-Judy). What a greedy, greedy person.She worked so hard under those hot lights at each show (as a stripper). She leads Gary around like a horse after a carrot. I like Gary, but he has very little education, she use's him for her love of money & power.She can't pull that carp on Artimus!

playing with a legend that seen the beginging of lynard skinard and the end of it artimus has lived thru the entire history of the band and has out lived most of the members and still playing and going strong there is alot of emotion for him when playing these tunes i can imagine

The exact groove never left old Bob. Artimus was always a flawless meter himself. This was so fun to watch.
Good means playing appropriately. When Artimus sits back down and plays the drums, he lays back cause the other guy is playing the known parts. That's what being good means.
