+dryvur...yes you are right dryvur..all these people have known friends along the way, I was friends with Artie, his wife Kerry and their son River but have lost touch. He was a talented passionate man who's stories brought tears to my eyes while sitting in their RV outside a venue in St Augustine Fl in 1999. There is a lot that is misunderstood about Artimus. Please leave him be.
Joel Dobson if you get to meet him, his regular guy attitude comes through. Maybe you have...hope so. I thought he was a cool guy. Talked with us for 15 minutes like we were family. Idk......I like him. And his tribute band...........kicks ass. The one I saw was killer!!!!!!!!!!!
Artimus and Leon were always my favorite members of the band. The man speaks his truth, and it's still just a damn shame that the world didn't get to hear more from the original band. Imagine what they would've put out in the late-'70s and early-'80s alone ...
@@da324, don't want to know the truth do you? If you ever meet him. Ask him to show you the scar where the farmer shot him. He won't. Because it didn't happen. He's also part of the reason why the plane crashed. He was 45 minutes late while the plane sat on the tarmac running.
He spells out what I have always said. I was lucky enough to be old enough to have seen the original lineup 4 times before the crash as they were good to us up in the panhandle of Florida. The best I ever saw them was in May of 77 with Steve in the band. That's what makes me the saddest is the combo of Steve with Ronnie the sky for the future was the limit as Steve was so talented as he wrote "You've Got that Right" and "I Know a Little". I always think of what would have happened if not for the crash. :(

I actually got meet him after the plane crash. He moved to Franklin, TN. My band was asked to play for a keg party in Franklin. OK, no pay, just for fun. Keg party, bonfire. We had fun. This guy came up to me and asked if he could go home and bring his drums to jam with us. I said sure. While he was gone, somebody asked me if I knew who that was? I did not know. It was Artimus! I wasn't intimidated, I looked forward to playing! We played a lot of southern rock songs, when we got to Freebird, I was in hog heaven! 2 drummers, Freebird, I nailed it! Happiest night of my life! Free Bird! He actually shook my hand, and said great job. I'd played FreeBird so many times honored to be in his presence. I had a great time that night.
Ed King was the main collaborator with Ronnie, wrote and arranged many of their biggest hits. Note, this is according to all of the documentaries, and I’m sure all of the members contributed to writing and arrangements as well, it was a team effort.
One of the greatest power drummers ever..............I'm so happy to have grown up in the 60's and 70's and enjoyed the swell of Southern rock. It spawned so many great groups................there is only one Lynyrd Skynyrd band........and it ended tragically in 1977.
Good interview. You let him talk without interrupting him. Some band members may be gone from this Earth, but the music never died and still grows bigger everyday.
Artimus is a wonderful, eloquent and genuine human being. I had the great fortune to meet him around this time, 2013. We played a gig here in New Jersey where he came up and played drums - he played MY set! - he’s one of my biggest drumming and ‘how to be a better human’ influences. I play in bands that do a lot of LS music; he heard us playing it and said, “ You guys do honor to The Music.” He also told me that it was the first time he ever heard “Gimme 3 Steps” played the right way. Because I play every LS song the way he played them. I’ll never forget that. Thank you, Artimus and God Bless. 🙂
Artimus seems very different from what I had imagined him to be for most of my life. I have admired this man for years because of the music, but after this interview I'll have to say, I admire him much more. He is so much deeper and interesting than I ever imagined. God bless and keep him!

My cover band played 'Free Bird' this past Friday night at a 'drive-in' style performance because of COVID. This was our last song of the night. The crowd LOVED it! VIEW FROM THE STAGE: During the slower open of the song ... most fans in the crowd slowly rocked their 'lighted' cell phones to the beat of the music. This was a first for me. It took my breath away it was such a cool visual. Several hundred attendees on a perfect autumn evening-- 70 degrees. No humidity. All the stars were aligned. Priceless.

IMO as much as I thank Mr. Pyle for those kind words, & speaking for just myself. it wasn't me who got Skynyrd into the Hall Of Fame, it was without a doubt the greatest pickers & the greatest singer & the greatest drummer & the greatest keyboardist & the greatest back up singers that got ya there. It wasn't me, but I thank ya none the less. All I did, was have a great ear to the best music from the best band there ever was, Lynyrd Skynyrd. You guys N gals busted your ass to get there. And you gave me (cos I speak only for myself) the greatest gifts of all, the music, & the love I have for the entire band. But rest assured, IMO It was Lynyrd Skynyrd who put Lynyrd Skynyrd into the Hall Of Fame. All I did was go to the shows, buy the music & call up the stations to here it all. You busted your ass for this honor (Hall Of Fame) and it paid off. And for that, the music & the love I have you all, I will forever be grateful to ya, cos though its been said so many times, it just happens to be true LYNYRD SKYNYRD IS THE BEST!!!! For him to say he is not a legend at the beginning is insanity. He is humble, but he is also a phenomenal drummer from history. I love that he has a down to earth attitude. He could still smoke most drummers!! That's because he is a natural musician, not a learned musician. He has a natural sense of music. Great guy!
great guy great drummer he should be in skynyrd but for whatever reason he's not that's sad.But I can tell he would be a real nice guy to hang out with and talk to about the band.arti rocks!
He chose to not join the new lynyrd skynyrd because he knows it's not skynyrd without ronnie, today's skynyrd can still put on a helluva show but it's a tribute. Ronnie wouldn't want the new band IMO

After he was done playing he jumped off the stage and told me about the new "Freebird" movie. He was just as upbeat as he was in this interview. I am honored to have met him. His anger is understandable, but he doesn't let that get him down---he presses on.
I'm now 51so I was too young to see Lynyrd Skynyrd live but I'll never forget seeing the Artimus Pyle Band opening for Charlie Daniels Band at Carowimds Palladium back in 85. I'd give 10 years of my life to experience a 3 month summer at the age of 17 with no regrets! God himself knows those were the best days of my life....

I’ve always heard “never meet your idols, you may be dissappointed”. There seems to be some truth to that saying occasionally. I saw LS several times during their best days. It’s a great memory. 👍
His band is awesome! I watched them in a one stop light town in Floyd Virginia at a pizza shop. free admission. got me two sets of autographed drum stick. And he can still play the shit out of the drums.
Love Steve, love Allen and Gary - all amazing guitar players BUT Ed King never gets the love he deserves. The man wrote Incense and Peppermints with Strawnerry Alarm Clock and then went on to write Sweet Home Alabama. He is Skynyrd's forgotten guitarist.
While being a fanatic for Skynyrd, I have to admit that I really didn’t know much about Ed King until several years ago. I’ve been doing deep dives into the videos of him, and wow, what a beast on guitar! He could play anything, and while Steve gets so much attention to his phenomenal playing abilities, people don’t realize that Ed is right there with him, if not beyond him, yet Ed would never admit that. Ed always downplayed his ability.
Artimus is a classy, empathetic, and genuine good man. He still carries such sadness for each of those lost, he still is suffering not being able to save them. He must realize - what he did do, did help, and did save - and he must understand the mind-egos of those whom have yet to develop a mature-mind wisdom. Ronnie' s wife is trying to re-live the notoriety and income- "ego" - you just really have to let those folks go about their own life journey and evolve at their pace. Artimus is a seriously evolved person - he is goodness, an Empath, he feels at a higher level, he hurts at a higher level, he is an Indigo, the superfical, selfish, arrogance of those whom he felt a family relationship with - hurt him. Artimus - You are a real Star - as a person - always a Star as a drummer - and "Artimus, You Get It"! Peace be with you ☮⚛♱🎶❤
I am here to. Tell you Artimus playin’ double kicks got that train movin’ every night. I was lucky enough to be on Stage with Skynyrd on 2 shows and the stage felt like it did jump 6 feet off the ground. I love the AllBros. and I love Marshall Tucker but Ronnie and the Boys were from a different planet… had they not lost the airplane they were destined for things we had not yet seen…damn were they ever good!!! Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd!
My dad met him and he tributed a song to him for his B-Day. Ive have a pic of me on his trumbset and my sister got a picture with him with is cowboy hat on. Such great memories
went camping recently and made a nice camp fire at night and brought out the cards to play a few rounds and I put some skynyrd on and the whiskey came out and it was the perfect music for that party!!
Artimus, to me, is the *REAL DEAL*. He is soft spoken, very articulate, very intelligent & a Marine to boot! Seems to be a very honest & honorable man.
I think Artimus should rename his band from the "Artimus Pyle Band" to "The Survivors". Not only because he is a survivor of the horrible crash, but his band are all survivous of real Rock~N~Roll and they are keeping it going. Real Rock~N~Roll surviving all the late 90s and 2000s crap we hear today. Keep on Keepin' on Artimus!!!🤩🥰
Artimus is a great dude. I had the honor to meet him at an open mic night in Jacksonville one night. He's one of the people that I'd absolutely love to meet again and actually have a few minutes with him because I didn't get the chance to tell him the last time just how much I respect him.
Skynyrd has always been the premiere Florida band And America’s great because of true Americans like them!! Rock the heavens and treat my momma to a special song or two! I’ll see Ronnie and Allen one day and fly the Heavens in style!
Once again, he is on top of his game despite the misfortunate crash and can see what is going on around him. We can say that this man is definitely awake.
Yeah Lynyrd Skynyrd the best band ever was thank you arnabis for being such a awesome person praise God that he's with you all the time must have been awesome being in Jerusalem
If we grew up with you, Artimus.......when albums/album covers were what we had....We all knew you! I went straight to personal to see who the drummer was!
My gf's uncle used to work for Ch4 news (in Jax) , and prior to that, when an independent journalist, he interviewed Ronnie VanZant sometime in the late 70's while Skynyrd was playing with .38 Special in Fernandina Beach, FL to promote the Van Zant uncle (I believe) that was running for Sheriff in Nassau County, FL (just north of Duval). Evidently he has 20-30 mins of an interview "somewhere on a reel of tape".... I told her to convince him to convert those reels to digital format an upload to youtube !!! It would be an amazing piece of history.
In my opinion he we always be known as the drummer for Skynyrd forever… Sucks things end up in court & an uproar over a bunch of $ & BS… Love & respect for the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup forever!!!
It grows every year... its bigger now then it ever was.. and its been huge for decades.... Thanks Artimus... and Lucas well done July 17th 2023 BTW Im 66 years old so Yeah I get it..I was there then and I'm here now...
Thanks Art...i hope and pray that you give your heart to Jesus Christ ask him to wash your sins away in his blood. You guys were the best in your time but you cant live in the past....only what you do for Christ will remain at judgement day....i love you bro
Artimus is a man of great integrity, and, as much as I love Gary, I have to admit that I agree with Artimus about Gary being a spineless wimp. I think Johnny should keep singing, but, except for singing, Johnny should be muzzled and not allowed to preach Make America Great Again sermons during Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts.
Artimus is a spirit being...he has a real connection with the earth and humanity...everything he said in this interview is truth...I'm 64 and I really need to lay off the salt.
i RESPECT UR HONESTY ARTMUS AND I HIGHLY RESPECT U. His band is awesome! I watched them in a one stop light town in Floyd Virginia at a pizza shop. free admission. got me two sets of autographed drum stick. And he can still play the shit out of the drums.
I played with him at dogtown in Floyd
Artimus Pyle forever!!! Great interview!
+hootnasty21 Thanks pal!
I love you Artimus! Platonic, that is! You will always be part of Lynrd Sknyrd! U R REAL!
LS aside, one of the greatest drummers in Rock.
Power to the music Artimus Pyle Peace Love.
✌❤🇨🇦👍
He's telling the gods honest truth. God bless you Artimus you rock.
Pyle's a great guy and was the only member of Skynyrd besides Medlocke who attended Leon Wilkeson's public service in Aug. '01.
Peace be with you ☮⚛♱🎶❤
Definitely one of my favorite drummers. Truly an inspiration. Right up there, with the likes,of John Bonham. God Bless Ya Artie.
I totally agree when he says without Ronnie there's no band.
went camping recently and made a nice camp fire at night and brought out the cards to play a few rounds and I put some skynyrd on and the whiskey came out and it was the perfect music for that party!!
Rock on Artimus love you're licks bro.big big fan Skynard is awesome
Artimus, to me, is the *REAL DEAL*.
He is soft spoken, very articulate, very intelligent & a Marine to boot!
Seems to be a very honest & honorable man.
I think Artimus should rename his band from the "Artimus Pyle Band" to "The Survivors". Not only because he is a survivor of the horrible crash, but his band are all survivous of real Rock~N~Roll and they are keeping it going. Real Rock~N~Roll surviving all the late 90s and 2000s crap we hear today. Keep on Keepin' on Artimus!!!🤩🥰
Good video!! Artie is a good person and always has been.
+762bullet Thanks buddy!
Amen, brother. Skynard, in my opinion died with Ronnie. Im with you dude. Ronnie Leslie from Jacksonville, Fl. And Asheville, NC.
The only Lynyrd Skynyrd music played in my home was played by Ronnie Steve Allen Leon Billy Gary an Artimus the best
In my opinion he we always be known as the drummer for Skynyrd forever… Sucks things end up in court & an uproar over a bunch of $ & BS… Love & respect for the original Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup forever!!!
i love watching those live videos of Skynyrd in the 70's...Artimus just killed them drum
heads!
If only we all worked on our character, what a great sentence.
You have my ultimate respect. I know this video is old but I can't tell you how much I respect you
It grows every year... its bigger now then it ever was.. and its been huge for decades.... Thanks Artimus... and Lucas well done July 17th 2023 BTW Im 66 years old so Yeah I get it..I was there then and I'm here now...
I LOVE THIS GUY
I played with him once in Floyd va., seems lots of comments here have met or played with him. Very cool
Thanks Art...i hope and pray that you give your heart to Jesus Christ ask him to wash your sins away in his blood. You guys were the best in your time but you cant live in the past....only what you do for Christ will remain at judgement day....i love you bro
Lynyrd Skynyrd 1973-1977 RIP
Good on you Artimus! Don't let the bastards grind you down!
Artimus is a spirit being...he has a real connection with the earth and humanity...everything he said in this interview is truth...I'm 64 and I really need to lay off the salt.
he should be playing the drums back in Lynyrd Skynyrd
Art rocks ... such a warm drumming
He will always be a lynyrd skynyrd member in my heart the original band members
I hate to remind Artimus ...but Bob Burns was there at the Rock N Roll HOF induction .....I just watched the video on you tube !!!
burns was a better drummer in my opinion,,he did less and sounded better,he played what needed to be played artiness not so much
I was raised Methodist also. You are the best drummer I ever did hear....
"They should've retired his jersey" - Absolutely !
i RESPECT UR HONESTY ARTMUS AND I HIGHLY RESPECT U. FEEL REAL SORRY FOR ALL THE BS U HAD TO GO THREW WTH THE REST OF THE CREW AND THERE GREED.KEEP THE TRUTH GOING AND UR INTEGRITY UP BECAUSE WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND BROTHER!!I FEEL REAL SORRY FOR THEM I MEAN THAT.THE GREED SOMEDAY WILL CATCH UP TO THEM!..WOULD LOVE TO SEE U LIVE .I PROBABLY WILL SOMEDAY..KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK I HOPE SOMEDAY I CAN MEET U.PEACE BROTHER..
💞 Thank you !!!
JAMES SCOTT NICHOLSON,ONTARIO,CANADA 🇨🇦 THERE ARE SOME AWESOME COMMENTS ABOUT, PEOPLE IN THE BAND, NOTHING PULLED MY HEART STRINGS MORE, THAN TO HEAR RONNIE YELL, PLAY IT PRETTY FOR THEM BILLY...BEST BORN BAND ♥️♥️✌️40 YEAR GUITARIST 🎸
R.I.P. AND R.I.P. (ROCK IN PARADISE) 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊 FREE BIRDS NOW 🦅
Mr Artimus Pyle is the one that ran for help when the plane went down! He saved 6:01 the band. I got to see The Rossington Collins band afterwards hoping to see him perform but he So gracefully Bowed out of respect for the band!
AP use to smoke weed at my place in daytona beach then he would ride his beach bike all over town and hardly anyone knew hebwas anyone "special" ..this man is down to earth as they come. Glad to see him keeping the legacy alive
Right on ! Spoken like an old timer. No more war it’s a racket that makes billions for a select few
no such thing as an EX.....same as being a Marine..You will always be a Skynyrd. Semper Fi Marine
Lynyrd Skynyrd died with Ronnie Van Zant.
seen their last concert in south Carolina. artimus and Ohio player's was at our graduation party in my home town in whitmire south Carolina
Saw the next to last concert, I think, in Statesboro 10/13/77. 👍
Love this guy
i like artimus. he enjoys trying to recall the movies ls i in. "that burt reynolds movie" when he referenced saturday night special" in longest yard
What lawyer isnt crooked?
if you wanna hear good drumming go listen railroad song. Artymus you are the man
Thank you Mr. Pyle.
Excellent
Artimus is awesome, and a real band mate!
I just can't imagine going through that plane crash knowing the person in front of you was killed just feet away from death himself...crazy shit.
Elvis Presley lol could never compare to Ronnie. Miss all you guys, no she had no business of sueing, Ronnie belongs to the universe. The eyes spoke to me also an so did I with Ronnie, only 2 people could do that, if there were more that could communicate that way, Ronnie an I would of known. You guys are with him, until eternity.Miss all of you.
I beg to differ. Both were phenomenons.
Love Ronnie, but Elvis Presley was the King my friend, music, movies, etc. Women used to jump off of buildings because they couldn’t have him 😂😂, two different time periods, two totally different types of music.
Once a Marine always a Marine. Artimus is a Bad Dude.
What a cool cat.. I hear no bitterness there or sour grapes, just facts. Hope you're listening Judy!
GREAT INTERVIEW!
+PITBULLZ 4EVER *** ADOPT & SAVE A LIFE Thanks! Please share if you like! Thanks!
I saw the tribute band in '87 at local bar. Dancing on the tables and drinking from pitchers will never be the same.
