    Tell that to all of the students each year that receive their college rings. To those who don't have much, and put themselves through school to get an education and look forward to those moments in college where receiving their class ring means everything to them. It's not about how cool it looks, or how it's used to show off. It's a sense of pride and accomplishment. You shouldn't make videos like this if you can't see both sides to your argument.

Getting my degree will be one of the proudest moments of my life and my future children will now have no excuse to not graduate college because both of their parents will have a degree. I could care less if you think me wearing my ring is dumb because you don’t know the struggle I went through to get it being a full time student and working 60 hours a week to pay for my schooling and make a living. I don't know how I landed on this video while doing some research, but Jesus Christ, this is a crock of shit. I graduated high school in 1997, and still wear my class ring. I have a class ring from UCLA as well for my master's degree, but I opt to wear my HS ring instead, simply because without my HS education, UCLA wouldn't have been a thing. Sure, it's bulky and some would call it gaudy. I, however, think it flows rather well with me. I struggled to get through HS due to having autism, trying to help my family keep it's ranch afloat, and even participating in sports at the same time, earning a state football championship (which I also have a ring for). I wouldn't be where I am today, not even close to it, if it weren't for my HS education, which I worked incredibly hard to receive. I don't wear my ring for anyone else but me. When I'm having a tough time at work or wherever and I don't think I can handle it, a quick glance at my hand will remind me that I made it though something else that I didn't think I would make it though. For some people, getting a degree or diploma was a very tough struggle, and having a memento of overcoming that challenge is an important thing to them. Even those community colleges are a struggle for some people. My mother, for example, went to a community college for her associate's degree. She did this while raising 3 children, working a ranch, and having to drive through the blizzards of South Dakota. Perhaps graduating from that school for some was easy. For my mother, not so much. That was a HUGE accomplishment for her, and to be reminded of that on a regular basis is an important ordeal. That all said, ignore this video, and the loser in it. He has absolutely no clue, apparently, what some people have to go though for their education(s). The real answer to whether you should wear your class ring or not is whatever you decide is the right answer. Sure, traditionally the ring is normally taken off and put away after you graduate, but that doesn't mean that you have to do it. Same with your tassels. Some people put them in a box. Others hang them on their car mirror. It's YOUR accomplishment. If it's important to you, which any education should be, feel free to remind yourself of it. Most people who wear their rings are wearing it for them, not for others. And for those of you who stumbled on this video for some reason while researching their high school class ring or college ring, that means you are about graduate, and for that, I congratulate you. Well done! And especially for you HS graduates, you have no idea how important your diploma is. Your life will be completely different with it. Right now it might not feel like a big deal, but I promise you... it is. Just wait. You'll see. And just like your diploma, feel free to put that ring somewhere you can see it, whether it be on a chain hanging from your car mirror, on a shelf, in a shadow box, or on your finger, it's absolutely worth admiring. You earned it. And it should never be forgotten about, just as your education should never be forgotten about. And again... ignore this asshat. If you wanna do what he says, feel free to do so, but don't let him influence you. It's your ring, diploma, tassel, letterman, or whatever you have. Do with it what you feel is right for you. And congratulations again on whatever accomplishment you achieved to lead you here!
    ~Ziggy, Class of 1997, Colman-Egan High School, South Dakota.

      You tell 'em, AMEN! In a world where so many people need to give themselves more credit, it's so toxic to teach people that being proud of the memories you made are wrong. It's just so selfish for people like this guy over here to put others down just because he couldn't even handle to look at ring and jacket that hinted at the fact that the people have a life that doesn't revolve around him.

    • @BlameZiggy
      @BlameZiggy 3 роки тому +2

      I know, right? I don't get how this asshat came up with this. It's just ridiculous. And it's clear that a lot of other people feel the same way, considering as of today, the video has 39 likes and 714 dislikes. I agree with your statement 100%. Toxic is the perfect word for this guy's "message". All he's doing is telling people not to be proud of a major accomplishment. Especially for people who worked their asses off when they were already in a difficult situation in their lives. I know people who were abused at home and still had the gumption to accomplish something that's literally life changing. So yea, "toxic" is the perfect work for this absolutely harmful message. And I appreciate your reply. It's good to see that someone else feels the same way as I do. And judging from the ratio of thumbs up to thumbs down as well as a LOT of the comments, there's a grip of people who agree with you and I. It's good to see a lot of people who express their feelings about this very harmful video. Again, thank you for your comment. It really does make me feel good to hear someone who is brave enough to express their feelings towards this TOXIC ( once again, thank you for sharing that absolutely perfect word for this guy's disgusting and disrespectful "message"). My guess is the reason you don’t wear one is because you haven’t earned one. “I know people who have graduated who can’t read and lawyers I wouldn’t trust”. First. That’s anecdotal. Second, I call. You don’t know anyone that graduated from a *prestigious* university that is illiterate, and you don’t know someone from a *tier one* law school that is not well educated in the law. I agree that you should only wear a class ring if it’s from an institution that you would be proud to tell anyone who asked what institution it represents. Because they will. Since we’re submitting anecdotal evidence as fact here, I’ll go ahead and let you know that I know people personally who have been out in public wearing their Baylor ring, and other Baylor alumni have approached them and struck up conversation. Several of these conversations ended in job offers. How’s that for useless?

    I'm not even from the US, but here in the UK we have rings for the top schools & universities (i.e. Cambridge, Oxford and Royal Holloway), I have two for my university degree, one was made in El Paso, Texas (Dunhams). Why? Because I'm proud of my academic achievement. I took myself through two degrees and I went back to college at 33 to get it. So, as some have pointed out, it would appear that you have an issue with achievers. A lot of employers in the states look for these rings as they're like a CV on a finger. Pity you didn't get one, you may not have even gone to college and then onto university. However, there's no need to get salty over it. I just hope you realise that you sound like you have a serious inferiority complex over the issue. Kind of tragic don't you think? It's down to indivdual choice due to academic tradition, nothing more nothing less.

    Totally disagree with millions of others. Being accepted into a major university, especially graduate school is based on maintaining a high GPA from being smart. I'm proud of my college ring and wear it with pride after graduating college. I worked my ass off for my undergrad and then my grad degree. To hear this sort of envious nonsense is more reasons I wear the ring. I actually have something to show based on hard work. Additionally, this is why we work in high paying corporate jobs due to our academic application from college. I also enjoyed jocking around high school with my team jacket as a starter on my football team. I made good grades and played ball hard. All of these things came from hard work and I will not allow them to be undermined by this kind of BS. You can re-frame the way you see the world but the world will continue to spin with the same views based on academic success and corporate dominance.

Common sense can get you part of the way, it is the rigorous proofs and deep math in STEM fields that you just can't get with common sense. There is much study involved in certain degrees in college. It is not an easy thing. That being said, having deep knowledge in any field is not necessarily an indicator of future success, some times all it takes is just one chapter of a book or a single idea, knowing it really well to make money and lots of it. And yes I will buy a college ring, why? because I can afford it and no I won't go broke even though it might be a liability, like my Rolex or my car.

      James Compton I know some “rats” who make over $800,000 a year. I bet you don’t make that much. I know many self-made multi-millionaires who are and used to be “rats” with absolutely zero debt. Cubicles? lol these people have offices nicer than you can imagine. I’ve been there. Yes, going to college and getting a degree does in fact make a difference. A college degree shows the sacrifice, time, and hard work one has dedicated to furthering their education. No one can ever take that degree away. :)

    I guess you really shouldn't worry about other people and what they wear unless they work for you. I mean for a lot of people it's a school pride thing; meaning if you went to a good high school, a great college, and work for any old company, you just want to show off your pride; so what. Why do people need to be so critical of others, I mean c'mon man. I see a lot of people with college rings, seminary rings, and military academy rings, so just ask them what they majored in, just to strike a conversation. I have a college ring, I don't wear it much; only expect for my wedding ring, watch, and a cross. However; I wear it when I go out and I tend to meet people who when they notice the ring the usually ask me about it, or it opens some door of opportunity for me as "the Ring" has done quit a few times (no one ever seems to think about that). You really cant walk around with your degree in your hand and for some people in certain circles, well my friend it's like a calling card if you will. in the end for the rest of thewords it's whatever wear your ring be proud and don't worry about the haterade you get from others who are so concerned about it!!

    If you ever go to a university, and have to obtain high level grades for your specific program, then you would understand what achievement truly means. Education is priceless and just because somebody takes out a student loan doesn't mean they get a degree. Class rings should be encouraged and not spoken to about like you are bro.
    You sound like a hater and it makes you look bad. When I see a college ring I know that that person had to go through courses just like me in my undergrad and grad school programs. Youth needs to get more education and less weirdo comments like this

      leila gh you buy it . The school has their seal associated with a company. You have to buy it through the company. Usually Jostens makes them. I wear mine to remind me of where I came from and what I can over come through persistence and hard work.

    Not a great video, but the haters seem to be the salty ones in the comments. With over $1 trillion of outstanding student loan debt to serve as proof, college is more accessible than ever before. Also, it must be noted that James appears to be from Texas, were college ring traditions hold a prominent place is the cultural landscape. That being said, had James graduated from a more prestigious university than West Texas A&M, he might feel differently. Whenever I see someone wearing a "Brass Rat" or USNA class ring, I understand the immense difficulty that they had to endure to earn the right to wear it!! As such, they should be immensely proud of their achievements, but those of us who graduated from "Huge" state schools may also be proud even though we did not endure such similar rigors. I, myself, have three degrees, but choose not to wear a class ring. But you can bet your ass, if one of those degrees came from MIT or the USNA, I would!!

    This dude is full of hate and is asking for people to follow him... Dude a college ring has nothing to do with your ability to perform, instead it is a reminder that says "xxx you struggled through college and succeeded now you know that no matter the challenge you face, as long as you don't give up you will succeed just like you did it before."

    Irresponsible video! People wear these rings as a sense of accomplishment. A lot of students struggle to graduate, not because of the challenges of their studies, but because of their family or socioeconomic background. Not everyone ends up working in a big company. This guy says “I don’t understand why people wear these rings.” Of course he doesn’t understand. His ignorance is laughable. To make such a flippant comment about class rings is pretty dumb and simple-minded.
