    CORRECTION: I'M SO SORRY! At 2:01 in the video, I MEANT YOU NEED TO SIGN UP FOR UA-cam'S PARTNER PROGRAM in order to monetize your videos with ads. Content ID system, it's important that your music is in there to be identified for royalties tracked by your PRO. Other than that error, did you find the information helpful?

    So much confusion with this, I know this video is 2 years old and dont know how much has changed but I know public is your PRO, Mechanical is Admin PUb, song recording is your Distribution or audium but there is also the composition which I believe Songtrust and Audium collect is that the same as your #3

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy

      Beats By Blitz Mechanicals are not necessarily Admin if you do your own administration. Admins will register and collect all but sound recording royalties.Which part is confusing?

    I have a question if I have a live freestyle to famous rapper instrumental, how would I collect royalties for that? How would I add that to my PRO? Also, if I did a remix to a famous rapper instrumental, how would I collect royalties on that and how would I add that to my PRO? I don’t have a distributor I plan to use one in near future. I’m planning on signing up with songtrust and ASCAP, I’m just trying understand this stuff before I proceed since I have music content of me on my UA-cam. I can’t monetize yet, so I’m guessing once I’m able to monetize doing this stuff will become useful. Sorry for the long message haha

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  4 роки тому

      1. Your live freestyle first of all would need a mechanical license to release that cover song. You would earn royalties as an Artist through SoundExchange. Since the composition/song does not belong to you, you would not register it with a PRO. You would register the instrumental sound recording to SoundExchange though. The streaming royalties for the sound recording would come through the distributor. Also, if you use Songtrust, they would do all of your PRO registrations etc., but not with soundexchange.

    • @LilEd115
      @LilEd115 4 роки тому +1

      The Music Business Made Easy how would I obtain a mechanical license? And when u say cover u referring to me using the instrumental but me using my own words I believe it’s called derivative. As for using sound exchange, I would 1st need a mechanical license? Or I can just use it and since it’s my own words on the freestyle and my own words on the recorded remix I will be able to use it and enter the full amount? Sorry for the confusion haha and one last thing, if I end up buying irc code for 95 bucks then I can use that and have songtrust collect for me and my pro only for the content that I have all rights too. But for the live freestyle and remix I can only use the irc code for SoundExchange. But will SoundExchange be able to collect my songs on UA-cam also or it will only be for the live freestyle and remixes I have done?

      @@LilEd115 you can't use anyone's work without their permission. That's infringement. Yes, if you add lyrics, you still need permission from the owner to use their music, or any variation thereof (derivative). Go to easysonglicensing.com.
      Songtrust will collect for you on youtube. Soundexchange is for noninteractive streaming royalties. They collect all of the digital performance royalties

      The Music Business Made Easy oh okay thank you very much. I appreciate your assistance and I’ve been watching lots of your videos. God bless you 🙏🏾 I will think in time later if I’ll need to get the license since I only have it on youtube I don’t plan on putting it any where else. But when the time comes I’ll pick the option where u pay 179 and they will do everything and reach out to them for u. That way I can at least content ID with Songtrust. But I’m curious about the 30% they will charge u for. But when I plan to use a distributor in near future and probably use one of my remixes to drake song, I will use the site u gave me but I’m curious to know if we’ll still be able to make money off the streams or you have to give them all royalties or maybe a split?

    I've been wondering about this for a while- I've been producing music for around 2 years now and I'm curious on how to get my music on Spotify DMCA free like Harris Heller? Do I have to go through a specific distributor that will allow me to post my music to Spotify DMCA free? I just want my Twitch streaming friends to be able to play my music off of Spotify without anyone getting in trouble/getting DMCA strikes on twitch. Any advice would be helpful :)Thanks! I everytime some plays my music on youtube or twitch they dont get any copyright strike but i will get my royalty fee money

    Hi and thank you for this video :) My question is, if you upload your video with a song written by you and where you also own the master recording, and you are monetizing your videos: are you losing money earned from ads if you don't have a publisher? Is UA-cam paying less to that channel owner in that case? Or from the money earned through ads, youtube deducts a percentage from that to your publisher? (meaning you earn less money if then a small cut goes to the publisher). I'm very confused about how this works when you own the song, the sound recording...

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  4 роки тому +2

      If your PRO is BMI, and your music is registered, you will receive those royalties whether or not you have a quote publisher. If your PRO is ASCAP and you don't have your own publishing set up with ASCAP and you don't have a publishing administrator or a publisher, if any money is owed to you, then you won't receive it because you don't have a way to receive those payments. UA-cam is not paying less, you are not set up to receive whatever is owed to you.

    Very nice video, thank you very much!
    Regarding the songwriter's royalties (performance and mechanical), I have a question:
    If I publish a music video singing my own composition and monetize it via UA-cam partner program, I am already receiving theses royalties also? Or do I have to register with a collecting partner as Songtrust, to get my songwriter royalties?
    Let's say UA-cam adsense tells me I earned $100 from my video. Which one of the scenarios is the correct one:
    option 1) all my royalties (mechanichal, performance, content owner, recording) are already included on the $100. I.e. the whole revenue from all royalties is the $100. Even if I register my song with Songtrust, it will only collect a share of those $100, discounting it from the UA-cam, and the total amount I receive at the end is still $100 (actually less, since Songtrust will take a comission).
    option 2) the $100 only represents the ad revenue owed to me as a Content Owner. It would mean that all my songwriter royalties are not being collected. So, in this case, if I register my song with Songtrust, it will collect an additional amount, referring to my songwriter royalties, and at the end I will get $100 from UA-cam + whatever Songtrust collects..
    I would appreciate immensely any help to understand that

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  4 роки тому

      Your performance royalties will come to you through your PRO. As a member of the YPP, your % of AD revenue will come from there. Sound recording royalties will come through your digital distributor (If you upload a sound recording). Your interactive streaming royalties would come from HFA/MRI to your publisher or administrator. Choosing Songtrust as your administrator yes, will take a percentage from your songwriter/publishing performance royalties, Be sure to watch my video, Everything You Need to Know About Music Royalties for further info on royalties and payments.

    congratulations on your videos !! Just a point of clarification. if an artist makes a performance recorded on TV (songs for which he owns all the rights). what is his best option to remove this video that someone recorded and put it on his youtube channel (with ads to make $ with this video).

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  5 років тому

      Contact youtube to ask to have the video removed. You will have to prove that you own the copyright. If the music is already in UA-cam's Content ID program with or without your information, and the match is found, they will contact the individual who put up the video with options as well as let you know what to expect in having it removed. Either way, you'll have to prove ownership. UA-cam will start its process of verifying the information. While doing that, If the video with your music is being monetized, that monetization will cease until the process is completed. So alert them that you want the video removed.

    what about independent artists/ small labels that wish to monetize their sound recordings? do they HAVE to go through a recognized distributor or can they just upload their sound recording (or music video that includes said recording)? Happy New Year and thanks for creating great content! I hope all is well!

    • @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy
      @TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy  4 роки тому +1

      You can upload your own videos and/or yourself to your channel! In order to monetize, you will need to be eligible for the UA-cam partner program with 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time within a 12 month period for starters... A distributor can also upload your audio if you’d like as well and monetize for you if you’d like. You don’t have to though.

    Hi again! Really enjoying soaking up the information from your videos, they are really helpful! However, as always some questions remain left unanswered due to personal variables which cannot always be included in videos such as this one (totally understandable). Or perhaps I just couldn't entirely understand the information within. Please could you help!
    I was wondering if you could answer these question for me and people that are in a similar situation. What happens if I own the publishing rights to my music video that I have uploaded to UA-cam, but someone else owns the master recording rights? As far as I understand the person that owns the master recording rights can actually put my song into the content ID system via their distributor (without my permission), but then does that mean I cannot monetise my UA-cam music video via the YPP system because it has been claimed by the content ID system? As the publishing rights owner, am I owed half of that money from the content ID system/is there a way a flagged video can still be monetised by me through the YPP?
    Liked and subbed! Thanks!

      Thank you! As a music publisher, you would receive payment through your PRO. If your channel is monetized you would receive through ADs the appropriate payments as well. With claims, here’s a video to help you further understand the process.

      @@TheMusicBusinessMadeEasy Yes, I've had a look but still struggling to understand. If my producer owns all the recording rights to a song and they apply for content ID and distribute the songs on behalf of me, would I be owed some of that money from the distributor (or is it for master recording rights only)?
      What happens in the scenario I uploaded my own music video, and it matched my producer's content ID? Does this mean I would not be able to monetise that same video with YPP (despite the fact I wrote the song)? What if I own some/all of the composer rights, but the producer owns all the recording rights? Who gets control of the content ID in this situation?
