Yep, an absolute legend sorely missed
🙌🙌🙌
I Loved this guy ,wonder if the woke ideology would have got him cancelled
I Loved this guy ,wonder if the woke ideology would have got him cancelled
Thank you for remembering him god bless him
@@mrman9561 good point. I think you are correct
I remember him from his own series in the mid to late 70s on BBC 2. I was just a teenager but he was hilarious.May your god go with you!! Was always his final words!!!😂😂
Love it!
Agreed, I grew up on David Allen with dark hair and irreverent humor. It was a rather select group of young people that were into Python, Dave Allen and The National Lampoon, and all the rest. It was like being a sort of nerd before there were nerds. Select kids that stayed up late to watch this stuff and discuss with others, who where, in the know, the following day in school. There were many that simply didn't get it.....(we didn't even try to explain it to them).
He was, is, and forever shall be a comedy god. Never fails to make me laugh.
Dave was and always will be the best
For me, Dave Allen was a must watch show on Saturday night back in the 1970's
Brilliant!
Born and raised in what back then was Yugoslavia. His show went on TV on sundays when I was a kid. I liked him a lot. One of the best ever.
An absolute Genius 👍👍👍
PROPER LEGEND!
Lots of happy memories watching him as a kid.✌🏻🏴
😊🙌🙌
Best Irish comedian ever. His observations of mundane things of life and religion were a laugh a minute. He would have a field day observing todays World as it is even crazier than the last Century! 😂😂😂
Isn't it amazing. He's resting in peace and yet , still makes us laugh, and always will. R.I.P. Dave, till we meet again.
I'm old enough to have seen all these back in the day. Forgot how good this man was. Thanks Amanda for cheering us up.
me too... many a teen-age party at home got stopped by popular consent 'cause Dave Allen was on telly at nine or whatever... he was Ireland's Carlin. and well respected in Scotland.
That was a wonderful tribute to him Amanda. Not only was he a very funny comic, but he was a warm family guy, much loved by all.
The late, great Dave Allen, it's wonderful that his work lives on and people get to see him for the first time, RIP Dave Allen.
Dave Allen made you laugh at yourself because his humour was observational and he was observing you! Fifty years ago I saw him at Blackpool at a matinee performance on the Pier. I enjoyed him so much I went with my parents in the evening. He never told the same gag twice and the evening performance was entirely different but just as funny. My mother and i came out on our knees with tears streaming down our cheeks. My father, a dour Yorkshireman, rarely smiled never mind laughed. When my mother asked him what he thought he replied .... "It were alright I suppose ..... if you like laughing!".
Lol, certainly sounds like a Yorkshireman. They carry their own style of dry humour and it is great as well!
I grew up watching Dave Allen! He was phenomenal! Me, my mum, gran and dad used to sit there with tears streaming down our faces! Brilliant!
hes great.! :)
me too
His comedy scetches were really funny esp the one's in church.
When comedians were funny and not scared to talk about anything and no one got offended. A genuis
He was a genius . HIS RELIGION SKETCHES WERE JUST GLORIOUS. Every time I feel down ,I put on one of his dvd suddenly life is good. Rest in peace Mr. Allen & thank you for laughters .
I've watched him since being a kid. I used to plead with my mom to let me stay up to watch him,
and have laughed at all of his jokes until my sides ached. He was a true legend.
No one else really comes close to what he did so well.
Yeah, I remember watching his Sunday night shows (despite 'school in the morning'). But it wasn't until I watched one on YT 50 years later, that I remembered the show was mostly sketches - some superbly filmed at no little expense - but all we really remember is the monologue on the stool at the end. That's where the best stuff was !
@@gdj6298 Do you remember when they used to dim the lights at the end of the show and he would tell the ghost story And then leave on that note. And we would check under our beds, just to make sure before we went to bed.
Dave Allen was a one-off. I can remember watching him when I was a kid, I used to love his shows.
Storyteller raconteur second to none. His sketches were brilliant too.
I had a friend years ago who used to deliver goods to Dave Allen's house, he told me that Dave Allen was such a nice guy that they used to talk for quite a time and swap jokes (my friend was a brilliant joke teller) My friend was really proud that Dave used to adapt some of his jokes in his act.
Dave Allen has probably been my favourite observational comedian from being a kid in the 70s. Bloody brilliant and fuck funny. RIP Legend...
His last full series of shows on TV from 1993. He did a one off at Christmas '94, plus hosted a compilation of old clips in '98. .He did this supermarket story when I saw him live in '91, along with the connected queuing at the post office that came before it. He was one of a kind, and a big influence of younger comedians that grew up with his old 70s & 80s shows.
Ah! That explains the "I saw you at the post office earlier" line! I'd wondered about that...
@@jamesdignanmusic2765 Aye, the story starts with banks and queuing at banks and then the post office.
I wonder what Dave Allan would have said about these new ‘self-serve’ check outs? lol
I remember seeing him at the Grove Theatre in Belfast. It was before he became famous. He was the support act to Val Doonican.
Val Doonican. Now there's a blast from the past. We used to watch him on the TV in New Zealand although it is a little difficult to remember most of it nowadays.
Dave was the most loved comic of his time. I used to love to watch him when I was a kid. I was so sad the day he died. It was a loss of a legend. I still love him and always will. Rest in peace Dave, there will never be another like you. ❤❤❤❤
:))
I grew up watching and laughing at dave allen, one of my favourite comedians, it was like when you read a good book and your ropped in,my sides would ache from laughing, r.i.p. dave allen an absolute legend
I saw Dave Allen's live show in Newcastle about 40 years ago. He made me laugh so much it hurt.
He was one of our very best, truly a great loss in 2005, thanks for the memories, great video.
Glad you enjoyed it :))
First rule of supermarket shopping. Never go shopping while you're hungry - you end up with a basket full of snack food!
I used to watch Dave Allen on the TV with my nan in the 70's. In the early 90's I got to see Dave Allen in Brighton, if anything he even more funnier. Sadly missed.
he never gave the same story twice about how he lost half his finger.
Great reaction Amanda. Dave was the master storyteller
I am an absolute fan of Dave Allan and you always add an element of fun to your shows.
So Amanda presenting Dave Allan works for me
Dave was essential telly when I was a kid. His hair was black back then.
May your Gods go with you.
The greatest comedian of all time
Nice reaction Amanda.
I have experienced all of the supermarket situations that Dave mentioned and found myself frustrated and sometimes angry at the stupidity of customers. I have also on many occasions gone in with a list of a few things to buy and ended up coming out with a trolley load of goods that cost me 3 times as much as what I wanted to spend.
Dave Allen was a brilliant comedian.
One of the best ever
Thank you for that beautiful reaction. Love Dave Allen always.
Great comedy never ages or dies unlike great comedians.
Dave Allen was my fathers favourite comic, hence i grew up with him, he would be so happy to see the younger generation enjoying his comedy, RIP Ron miss you daily
My Dads favourite comedian when I was growing up, a great story teller. My favourite when young and still is Billy Connolly, Britain and Ireland have a great legacy of comedians and comedy.
my dad loved this guy....we watched him on sunday nites here in pittsburgh, as i was growing up.
:))
Dave Allen was my favorite of all time the airport/airplane one is one of my favorite, has me in stiches his monologue set peaces, they all still relate to this day - timeless
One of the best . This irish comedian was good at all his jokes and very funny too , RIP .
Love Dave Allen... I wonder what he'd make of supermarkets nowadays with the self-service checkouts, or online ordering and home deliveries lol. I can just imagine his expletives every time the self-service machine fails to work properly! 😂
A true comedy legend, i never missed his shows and as you said, Amanda, just as relevant today as he was back then, one of the true geniuses of observational comedy, he did sketches too usually about the church.
The absolute novelty (at the time) when Shops started to introduce Barcode Scanning at the Tills.
Prior to this, the Cashiers were extremely skilled at punching all the various items and prices through at speed.
Aye. Indeed when the barcode readers came in they weren't all that good and the old-hand cashiers could key in and send a 'shop' through faster than the new fangled beeping thing!
As a lad working at packing bags in the supermarket, I noticed all the girls had to know all the prices and be able to recognise when someone had swapped tags to get the items cheaper.
Those girls had some great skillsets.
Absolute legend.
Thanks for this one Amanda. His humour still works today. I think the thing that made him popular was that he was always topical and you could relate to what he was taking the mick out of. Most of what he ripped to shreds is still true now.
I'm so glad supermarkets have done away with those bloody plastic bags! I could never get them open and I'd end up looking so stressed, apparently, that the checker would sometimes take pity on me and open them herself. EASILY! Was there some crazy knack to it? If so, it escaped me.
They are still here where live!!!!!
Yep, I'm right there with you, Amanda. Dave Allen was always comedy gold. Not necessarily for a reaction video, but you might enjoy checking out his sketch show from the early 70s.
Oh, and Little Miss sends her love, and big cuddles xx
Total legend, timing was spot on everytime
It's like that person in the queue behind you with the one item, do you let them in front which I usually do or is there part of you thinking they have a trolley full of stuff lurking in an aisle nearby for when you let them in!! 😃
Haha I think that 😂
(Although I still usually let them in as I never have just one item) lol
I remember Dave when he first started out on TV. A one hour weekly show. It was in black and white in New Zealand. Just him sitting in his chair with a glass of whiskey on a small table beside him telling story after story. Absolutely brilliant.
I'm guilty of everything he said , so well observed . I used to look forward to his shows and there weren't any disappointments .As you said Amanda Dave lives on with clips like this .
Dave Allen is one of the Comedy greats of all time!! Great channel!!
Brilliant clip,so much of this rings true I've done most of these, counted items etc , he's sadly missed ❤❤ . I recommend the ciip where he tells of his first day a convent school .👍👍.
Now that was funny. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks Mark! Hope you’re well 😊
Thanks to Dave Allen, supermarkets now scan bar codes which are part of the product label. And thanks to Covid, now in Australia it is extremely rare to see anyone paying in cash. We use VISA debit cards with 'tap and go' facilities.
Family ritual 40 years ago💚 Loved him!
Now he's probably the reason why I USE ALL FORMS OF CASH!🤔🤣
Thanks so much for bringing Dave Allen back to the small screen!
of course :)
About 30 years ago I attended his show in a theatre in the Haymarket in London. It was a New Years Eve show and it was magnificent !
He entertained the audience for two hours. Half way through he told the audience that it was interval time but he was happy to just continue on -
The audience cheered with enthusiastic approval . He was masterful and seemingly effortless. He made us all feel like we were in his house, sitting at his kitchen table and listening to his stories.
Dave Allen is a Legend, the super market it's all so true, my favourite bit stuck behind someone who has an item with no price tag, you could 😡 them , for me comedy stands up today & is better than some comedy today 😃
I had the privilege to see him live. These videos are fantastic.
aw thats amazing, i bet that was a100x better than a video
Thanks, I've watched Dave since my dad made me he loves him, and every one of his stories is still true today. He's so intelligent in his comedy.
As others have said Total Legend😂😂😂😂
😊🙌🙌
You should watch some of his comedy sketches ...
Your uploads of Dave Allen's comedy prompted me to buy one of his DVD compilations recently - loved watching that and I thank you for reminding me just how great his comedy is, Amanda xx
Ah I’m so glad! I hope you’re well Kevin 😊
@@AMANDARAEUK I am fine thank you - I hope all's well with you too.🙂
There is a whole system of Social Human Behaviour research that goes into Supermarkets, it's quite clever.
A great story teller!
Lovely tribute to him Amanda. Thank you for letting others who didn’t know of him, see his Genius.
Of course, hes absolutely brilliant :)
MY dad saw him live in Ireland in the 70's still funny after so many years 😂🎉🎉
aw thats amazing, I bet it was even better live
Dave Allen was an absolute legend I’m glad I had the chance of growing up with such real life humour that this guy gave us.
I was once in the queue for X items or less and was challenged at the till by the cashier for having too many items. She was including my and my partner's crash helmets that we had put in the trolley to avoid carrying them. UK supermarkets don't usually sell crash helmets.
Hi Amanda.🤩🤩🤩How good to see Dave Allen again, so thankyou. Well ive been there for all of those, so its you holding everyone up, rummaging through your purse, to get rid of all your change, while i am standing there with just a loaf of bread and the correct money!!! haha, and the carrier bags that dont open, AAAAGGHH it makes you seethe. Thanks Amanda, hope you have a great week. jerry field
Marty Feldman. 1) The bookshop with John Cleese; 2) Marty Feldman with John Cleese in a railway compartment; 3) Marty Feldman as a bishop entering a railway compartment, 4) Charlie Drake conducting an orchestra of Charlie Drakes.
htansk for the recommendations :)
We loved Dave Allen, beautiful soul, so glad he lives on for new audiences, generations and across continents. He'd be overjoyed that he's still making people laugh.
:)))
One of the really greats of comedy and storytelling Irishman it is ashamed that all that amazing talent lays silent in the ground RIP
Dave Allen was the original Agnas Brown.
Me.and my late mother used to watch him every Friday night on our.local ABC 3 channel.in the 70s and.into the early 80s.
Loved it.
Rants about the silliest little things is a very popular subject in British comedy. Almost every comedian has something of that in his or her stand-up, but some are absolute masters of it. One of them Is Rhod Gilbert about a tattoo, or a potatoe, bedlinnen, a flashluight, a electric toorthbrush and even a program against the anger of his rants.
I was lucky enough to see him live in about 1978. Absolute genius. Something I will never forget
Some things never change
Isn’t that the truth lol
Brilliant observational comedy from a master. Thank you for the chance of see him at work
I remember watching Dave Allen on TV when the shows first came out. A brilliant story teller. With shopping the stores deliberately move things around so you see things and buy them you would not usually do. I do make a shopping list but ever now and then I do but items that have 'caught my eye'. The stores even but all the sweets near the queues for the tills.
An interesting way supermarkets manipulate us is floor tiles. The further apart the joints in between tiles are, the slower we think we're going because of the tiny bumps, and we tend to speed up. The closer the joints are, the faster we think we're going, and so we slow down, making us notice more things on the shelves are being more likely to buy.
I remember seeing some of his shows in the 80's i wonder what he would make of the self service checkouts thank you for this very funny video Amanda ❤
You’re welcome Stuart! Hope you’re well 😊
@@AMANDARAEUK i am thank you i hope you and your family are well too
That was quite the moving tribute at the end there - I'm filling up here! 😅 My mum wasn't a Dave Allen fan, but my mate's parents loved him, so I used to watch him round at theirs. Great days. I love it that you love him too!
Dave Allen was always hilarious. The best storytelling comedian. Billy Connolly too.
my mum told me to go and see Bob Monkhouse now to me he was a TV quiz show host.
I peed myself laughing, my jaw ached my side was stiff and shirt was soaked drying up the tears.
I cannot tell you how many times my wife has an item in the basket that has no price, price tag or missing barcode then I have to run through the store returning out of breath with one with a price tag. At this point she better not say “oh that’s ok we don’t need it!” The ride home from the supermarket is not a pleasant one as I’m checking my blood pressure and heart rate at this time. 😉 great afternoon laugh Ms Amanda. Thanks!!
Haha oh no 😂😂must be a woman thing!
One of his favourite London restaurants, Foxtrot Oscar in Tite Street, Chelsea, is now a supermarket!! 😳
Oh right, how times change! lol
Thanks for liking my comment Amanda. I appreciate it. Hope you and the family are well
we are great thank you, i hope youre okay :))
In tears laughing at this! .... 9 items or less and the word goes back that a little old lady is trying to get away with 10 items. Brilliant, brilliant! Love Dave Allen!
His observational comedy, stuff just going a bit off kilter were hilarious. I was lucky enough to see him live once and it was a great evening.
Personally, my pet peeve in supermarkets is (I hate to say usually women) the customer who gets their items scanned, then puts them in bag(s) and *then* seem surprised they need to pay and spend a while finding a purse or wallet.
Amanda, you are a breath of fresh air in a very staid environment. Please keep it coming
Dave Allen & George Carlin, 2 Irish comedian who will Never be forgoten!!!❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks needed these , couldnt help myself
youre so welcome :)
Love your reaction to them especially the two ronnies 😅
He was absolutely brilliant!!
I absolutely loved Dave Allan a true genius very sadly missed. X
I remember his first time around, brilliant comedian.
The one thing I admired about him was at the end of his show he daid ' And may your God go with you '
I grew up watching him on TV. The bloke was brilliant. Apropos of nothing you would kill it as a voice actor. I can definitely hear you as Fleet Command in the Homeworld computer games.😉
