    seems people are use to blazing through and getting amazing gear really fast in these types of games. Then they play POE 2 expecting the same thing. The developer purposely made it slower and more challenging; they don't want players to burn through the content at blazing speed, and most weren't prepared for it. so a lot of players are being negative about the game because they can't blaze through the content to max level in a day or two. to me, its a good thing. I am having a blast playing this game and am looking forward to the full release.

      Well the value of these games is that speed, skipping the story and just focusing on the build of the character, the build of the gear, and getting back to base with loot that lets you make upgrades to your build. If PoE2 thinks its more important than a mere click em up for casual gamers and dad gamers thats a bad thing not a good thing. If i want a true RPG ill play one. Its the only value of the genre is to be a speed run click em up fest for Blizzard mass appeal casuals and WoW types. If i wasnt a real challenge ill play a competitive online game like Dota or CS2 or Aoe2. These games are for casual dads and it was never that deep. I think ARPG players take themselves too seriously and dont realize the masses just want to have a fun build. Its like they played the game and liked it and never stopped like normal people and look for something deeper but its just a cope. Nobody cares these games arent hard, they are not supposed to be hard.

      @nutellabrah6718 at launch it was hard and I actually really enjoyed that, I loved dying to bosses and having to learn the mechanics to overcome the challenges. Then when they upped the rare drop rates on my second run I was decked out in rares within a couple hours and just plowed through everything and it felt cheap not even having to care about boss mechanics anymore. It became so easy there wasnt even a thrill in getting gear because why would i even need gear when im already mincing level 20 stuff in my level 6 rares.. The thrill of real danger was gone at that point so I ended up putting it down

It absolutely blows my mind... that PoE2 has more content in early access than D4 had on release for half the price. Comparing D4 to PoE2 is praise that D4 and Blizzard do not deserve. Even my girlfriend, who has never played PoE,plays it for hours right next to me while I play.
    I’m currently playing mercenary, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s much easier than I had anticipated. It took me significantly more tries to defeat bosses as a monk, but with my mercenary, I’ve managed to almost every boss until Act 3 on my first try. The only exception was the big giant knight, which took me about five tries.

    I think almost anyone who have played Diablo 4 for the last 18-20 months, can take a break and play something else for a while. Doesn't mean the other game is better, or you will ultimately never play D4 again. Gamers play different games. It's OK. I myself will probably be playing PoE2 for the next few months at least. I definitely like the combat more than D4 (slower). But I am sure there will come a time when I have played so much of it, I might feel like playing something different for a bit then too. Hopefully No Rest for the Wicked in on the scene around that time.

    I appreciate the balanced take on this. I'm not a Diablo player at all or a veteran PoE1 player, but I AM a veteran Souls player and long time roguelike fanatic, and I gotta say I am IN LOVE with PoE2. The extreme difficulty and the practical infinity of the build craft make this game a more rewarding experience than anything else I've ever played. It just feels great to get destroyed by a boss repeatedly, re-evaluate your build and realize you were leaving 300% more DPS on the table, fix it up, then go utterly destroy the boss. I also love that bosses are a forced skill check in terms of both build and player ability. Some bosses force you to get up close and personal and dodge roll like a maniac, some force you to play at range or get one shot, but they all force you to view your build in a different light, and teach you hard earned lessons that you will ABSOLUTELY need to be able to make it through the following content. I also really dig that there are no optional mechanics in this game. You HAVE to engage with the systems and understand them to succeed. There are no progression mechanics that feel like they are a waste of time, or can just be skipped over trivially. Many games these days don't give a single shit how smart or skilled you are as a player, they will hand hold every step of the way and give you pats on the back and free items constantly which completely negate/invalidate the progression of your power fantasy, as well as perverting and bypassing the game's existing progression mechanics. Why design mechanics if you're going to then invalidate them though absurd XP rate weekends, copious amounts of free items just for logging in, microtransactions, etc? The answer is either that the mechanics are bad to begin with, or were stripped of their actual value and then repackaged at cost to you by greedy game developers, or simply tone deaf devs who think their players are idiots who need to be spoon fed every second of "gameplay". I'm just sick of games that appeal to the lowest common denominator, and in doing so, strip absolutely anything from the game which requires basic reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, or even something as simple as actually understanding and enjoying the game world/lore. Path of Exile 2 is not that game, and strives in every regard to NOT be like those games. It respects your intelligence, and asks you to bring your best to the table.

      @maxpowers4436 Місяць тому

      Yea this is over complicating it badly. The game revolves around dodgeroll and thats it. That isnt a good thing. All mechanics come down to dodge it with roll. Especially high end where you can have a shit ton of resistances but if you dont dodge its over.
      The game is not extremely difficult IDK why people think it is. Maybe they are new to the genre or have bad mechanics.

    • @rawvoxel
      @rawvoxel Місяць тому

      @@maxpowers4436 You're oversimplifying it. It' fine to have issues with the game, but let's not pretend my stated opinion is parading itself as a fact and then base our responses under that premise. 😉 I find this reductive. Dodge roll does matter a LOT. However, I've found that any time I had severe difficulty with a boss I found to seem impossible, or even the ascendancy trials, I found a way to beat them through improving my build or realizing the game was trying to get me to fight like I'm smart. For example, I had a really rough time fighting Viper in Act 3 due to her ranged poison attacks one shotting me most of the time, despite dodge rolling to the best of my ability. I realized I could just run up to her and hit her hard once with Hexblast to break her out of that attack pattern entirely. This is the kind of thing I mean, it's not that dodge rolling is bad, it's that people aren't willing to play this like it's a game and instead treat it like a product they bought which is malfunctioning the first instance they have a hard time. You have to be willing to experiment and try new things and treat this as the unique experience that it is. The game has its problems FOR SURE, and I do think a lot of stuff is overtuned, but let's not kid ourselves about what's really going on here: people who get mad when they play video games and lose repeatedly are the ones who are generally having a bad time, and the ones who don't are generally having a good time. 1000% mindset.

    You mentioned that changing the way you look at the game made you enjoy the game more. I think it's best to approach pretty much any game as it is. PoE is so far the only ARPG I've played (and still play from time to time). I didn't think 'oh let's find out how this game genre plays'. The gem system is the thing I've wanted in the other types of RPG's I've played. To some extend Warframe does a similar job, which is also one of the reasons I played that quite a lot.
    So I'd say always have an open mind when approaching games, don't try to box everything in. If a game has a sequell, then you should ofcourse expect a similar game.

    PoE makes you THINK about your character. What problems do you have? How do I solve those problems? Am I using good support gems? Do my skills all work in conjunction with one another? Do I have enough HP/resists to stay alive? These are slightly harder to solve in early-access poe2 compared to poe1, but they are still able to be solved with some planning. The extreme power-fantasy that D4 gives you in 5 hours of gameplay is still there in PoE, it just takes more time/actual thought to achieve, and because of that, is far more satisfying in my opinion, especially with the freedom of making all kinds of silly combinations work out in the end.

    It was the second day to me when I realized how incredibly good this game is. I had to reset my mindset about playing the classics like PoE and Diablos and think of it as a game I haven't played before. Just let it grow on me as such. Then I realized it doesn't have to feel so fast rather than enjoy the real fun in the mechanics. But unfortunately I think as such none of the other classes are nearly as enjoyable as monk. Destroying mobs with insane combos and timing your hits and dodge rolls, yet always having that pressure of missing the beat and getting totally annihilated. I haven't had this much fun in arpg since Elden Ring. There's a huge balancing still ahead for GGG to make it nearly as fun to play as with monk.
    And this is exactly what GGG did absolutely right. They already got PoE which is arguably the most comprehensive Diablo type of game with continuous never ending devwlopment that creates new leagues based on fan comments. There was no reason to make remaster of the game that is still running and it looks insanely good for its age. They made a new game with different perspective, serving the other types if hardcore gamers who for example enjoyed getting beaten in Souls games or dungeon crawlers.

Every build is just 'pick whatever skill is favored this season, max the damage on it and reduce your cooldowns as much as possible and mash buttons'. PoE2 is actually fun to slow down. I enjoy the slower pace of combat and actually having to pay attention to what's going on.

Very smart way to look at PoE2. Expectations can make or break your experience, and what you said is exactly how I feel about this game. dude yea took me a while to make this separation of "this is not ur avg arpg"... legit one piece of gear with life on hit and increased attack speed clicked for me and helped me survive more as a melee. Also... freeze is a game changer in terms of stopping incoming dmg. I still prefer the fast explosive combat graphics or D4 tho. Plus I played POE2 on PS5 and the dodging isn't as accurate as id like, on the Act1 boss, wolf king I got clipped by his aoe abilities so many times... still as a monk haven't defeated it yet even with 30%+ frost resistance built up. utilizing support gems to increase my stun bar generation helps but I still die a lot. Weird being 1 shotted by an ability even though I'm over leveled and geared up. Definitely more of a skill check and placement issue.
    I just wanted a relaxing fun game to chill with... but this is not it.

There is no real tuning/balancing at all, right now. At this point they still are working on testing and troubleshooting mechanics. I recommend to you coming back to PoE2 in 3 years. Until then, most mechanics should be fixed and kinda balanced. Btw, PoE started in a similar fashion and developed from there. I really enjoyed the early, hard and untuned times. And I enjoy it in PoE2 Beta, too.

    The main difference between D4 and POE2. Customization is endless and your not locked into same old builds. The maps actually look different and feel new, in D4 everything looks the same, but in POE2 each new area is a new experience with new enemies that bring different challenges to the table. D4 every enemy is just a skin, you dont really care what your fighting because they are all the same and act the same. In D4 you wont really die or struggle like you will in POE2

    How about the difficulty progression? I feel like thats one thing missing from d4. I found myself getting bored often bc the game never felt more challenging?

    • @yazuki-wolf
      @yazuki-wolf  18 днів тому

      Yeah I may have to make a video on that eventually, but actually for me the difficulty (after completing the campaign at least) WAS just about perfect the way it was right before Vessel of Hatred. You could skip the campaign and go to higher level strongholds or 10+ level helltides to level up with challenging content, and then as soon as you get NM dungeons you could start regularly pushing content 10, 20, to 30 levels above your character as soon as your build was ready. That and being able to unlock higher world tiers the moment you were strong enough felt great. I liked seeing how far below the recommended level for capstone dungeons I could get each run while unlocking the higher world tiers. The only real issue was the campaign, which was so long ago for me that I don't remember exactly how hard it was, but if you want a challenge there just play barb or druid, and don't masterwork any gear before you finish.
      BUT... I kinda think Vessel of Hatred changed all that. The world tiers are now just a flat across the board difficulty increase so all the dynamic control you had before, like doing a NMD 30 levels over your character for a challenge and then relaxing with a Helltide or Stronghold that is only maybe 10 above for a break, etc., is virtually gone now.
      And I don't know exactly how they changed enemy balancing, but after Vessel of Hatred I felt like the enemies were all a LOT beefier, but they hardly did any damage half the time, so it's the most boring combination of long drawn out fights with no real risk. I actually have some footage of me standing in the middle of one of the second to last boss fights in the expansion, literally standing in the middle of the screen for a good 5 minutes without any risk of dieing.

    Thank you for sharing. Your closing thoughts synch with me. I am old enough to remember playing the original Diablo when it first came out.
    I dislike the speediness of modern day diablo games. The original Diablo was slow, methodical & had strong horror elements. I still remember the fear & excitement I felt taking on the Blood Raven in Diablo2.
    Ironically, POE2 fulfils this instead of Diablo 3 or 4. I've never asked for seasons. I still remembering farming Mephisto in D2. How many of us still remember what MSLE stands for in D2?
    It is strange that GGG POE2 is the successor of Diablo.

    • @yazuki-wolf
      @yazuki-wolf  22 дні тому

      My thoughts exactly. When I played the original Diablo after playing D3 and other modern ARPG's I was surprised out how slow and methodical it was. Almost like an old school rogue-like.
      After that ARPG's went more down the power fantasy route, but POE2 feels like an alternate timeline where ARPG's built on that old school feel instead.

      That's a really interesting question. I'm working on a video now going into what different gamers are looking for in an ARPG, so I guess maybe it depends on where you are coming from. If you play Elden ring and or Somewhat punishing rogue-likes POE2 is not a bad place to start, but if your more into mainstream AAA style D4 is a good introduction to ARPG mechanics with a super gripping campaign story. If you play lots of older games though, I might suggest jumping into Diablo 2 or even 1. Also Grim Dawn is quite good too.

    Before even talking about gameplay, Blizz has 13k employees vs GGG's 156 employees per Google. Just shows a perspective on how much you'll spend playing D4 with them wanting to charge for an expansion every year with content much smaller than PoE's. The more content in PoE2, the busier you'll be with it but with D4 being easier and faster, you'll finish the game faster and needing to open your wallet for more dopamine (hmm strategically planned that way?).

      Yup that is often a result of big corporate game design.

    PoE2 is more Diablo 2 than Diablo 2

      Many players have mentioned d2 with poe2. What makes me love d2 is the dopamine effect finding rare items or runes, do you get the same feeling in poe 2? If so, when?

    Played both D4 and Poe 2. The thing I like about POE 2 is the difficulty from the get go. Compared to D4. POE 2 gets difficult way quicker. In the D4 at launch the only difficult part was the dungeons to get into higher difficulty of very high keys (i cant remember thename).

      Capstone Dungeons I think. Honestly kinda upset they got rid of them in the new Expansion/Season

    the only cons I have for this game is their server. I hope they fix their server soon or atleast before the end of early access.
