Hello
I just noticed that “Sonos” is a palindrome so it doesn’t matter which way you prop the speaker up in a stereo pair the logos can always be symmetrical in your setup. BIG brain moves Sonos 🤯
It's not only a palindrome. For that to work it must also be point symmetrical. Really ingenious.
you are looking for the word "ambigram" :)
I have had the 'Five' for a couple of years now and I really enjoy not only its sound but its easy compatibility to play music from all of our family's devices. We had been using just smart speakers before, (such as Google Hub Max), but the Sonos brings easier and more consistent connections and also the obviously deeper, richer sound. My intent it to build around the 'Five' for more home audio.
The Sonos over the KEFS … I was told by everyone I had to purchase a KEF sub to hear deeper bass. For the price point, the Sonos is a more complete experience. Glad I exchanged the KEFS for two Sonos fives
Just wanted to share I really enjoy your videos. Thank-you for posting!
First time I realised SonoS is a palindrome, smart SonoS. - Full detailed review also thanks :)
Thorough presentation. Thank you. Many questions answered, good demo, and thoughtful commentary.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Would the new 5 fit in my play 5 wall mount brackets ?
Do you recommend Sonos Five over Sonos One/OneSL as rear surround with Arc?
My very same question.
Would it be dependent on room size?
Depends on budget
Well, apart from that, what I'm wondering is if the sonos one sls can project enough in a small to medium sized room, if not then prolly the sonos five will do.
Your videos always give me all the information I want to know about a product before purchasing it
Can this be used with a tv?
they should launch a cheaper sub
I second this!!!
Very good review! Thank you 🙏
Where is the Vinylsetup video?
I just purchased a five, and realised midway through the video you have the same record player as I do. I had been putting off purchasing as I wasn’t sure of the connect-ability, but I’m content now knowing it just needs a 2 port female RCA to a 3.5mm AUX. Happy days
What record player is this?
@@nataliewebb4964 It's a "AUDIO-TECHNICA AT-LP120XUSB", they hit around the £250 mark.
Você comprou aonde
elite video length, great review too

In this price range what are the competitors to the five?
Love my Sonos Ones. I really like the slightly more subtle aesthetics of the 5 vs the Play:5.
Well done, as a Sonos reseller, comparing it with the Kef LSX and giving an honest assessment. I have my Sonos Ones in my office/study and my kitchen, and maybe one in my bedroom at some point, but my main speakers in my listening/living room are Kef LS50w (the big brother to the LSX) and I love them. For me one big attraction was ability to also use them for my TV which goes into the LS50w's optical input. I do wonder though what the latency is on the 3.5mm input on the Sonos 5. Would plugging the headphone output of a TV into one half of a Sonos 5 L/R stereo pair, maybe with subwoofer as well, give full TV stereo or 2:1 (not 5:1 obviously) output through the Sonos system and if yes then would the latency be too high and give lip sync issues? (I'm asking mainly out of interest and maybe for other people - my Kef LS50w setup does all that I want although doing it all again now if that Sonos setup could also do TV I would definitely be giving 2 x Sonos 5 + subwoofer a demo listen vs Kef LS50w + subwoofer since I can see the benefit of being 100% Sonos.)
Will I be able to just buy a used last gen Play 5 and use it with the new app and updated firmware?
Personally, I just don’t understand this mostly aesthetic update of the Play 5 by Sonos. The sound is still basically the same as the older model, they didn’t add Smart Home controls directly to the speaker and the design is still basically the same. I think that this was a big missed opportunity on Sonos’ part.
I've had both models and they don't sound the same.
Indeed.
@@gabrielfpi3046 they do. They have the same woofers and tweeters. Use the same goddam amp. Only diffrence is looks and the software.
@@dennis-br6vr I suppose that for you all foods taste the same, a salad does not matter to a barbecue. I've had both and in stereo. They are not even remotely the same.
Does the Play:5 (the older one) is compatible with AirPlay 2?
It support hi res audio files? Thx
Can you do a review of sonos arc with 2 sonos fives (no subs)? saw it in another video and would love your opinion on it.
Would be handy to have 2 spare fives for music through my house during a party
I just bought the Sonos five, BUT in my home is not possible to have wifi with internet, so I can't do nothing... you can't use the 3.5 mm Jac with out internet ...
how is it possible!!
Can i pair the new 5’s with a subwoofer
My room size is 23'x12',with standard ceiling height. What do you recommend comparing two Sonos Five vs. two Sonos 1 and the new small Sonos base speaker? The room is mostly used as a home gym/workout space. I play music louder than the average listener, but not crazy loud. The audio will not be connected to any video. (thank you in advance)
What sounds better - B&W Zeppelin or Sonos Five
Pretty bloody impressive! The single seems a touch bass heavy, but the stereo pair are extraordinary.
Hello!
I get sonos system surround Arc+Sub gen3+ 2 Era 100 for living room is it the best or should better to had another speaker like five or Era300 for surround system that i have to improve sound experience i feel that I chose not the right rear speakers for me a take the Era100 two but may be to be sure I needed for Era300 two ? From all people that talk about sonos it easy to understand information smart thanks for sharing
Is this worth an upgrade from Play 5 gen 1?
Question if I may? This looks amazing and exactly what I was looking for. I had looked at maybe getting a Sonos Port to send sound to WiFi speakers but this seems to a better option. My question is if this speaker can connect directly to your vinyl player and output to wireless speakers, then why would anyone get the Sonos Port ??
Hi Anthony, thanks for watching. The Port gives you the freedom to position your turntable and speakers wherever you want in the room as the Port only needs to attach to the turntable. The Port will then send this turntable audio over WiFi to any Sonos speakers of your choice. Also if you have a HiFi system already with a turntable, amplifier and speakers for example, the Port can attach to the HiFi and you can then use your existing HiFi as a Sonos zone. If you're looking for an All-in-one wireless speaker to use with vinyl, then the Five would be all you need. Hope this helps!
I would like to know what happens when you have two and your input is from a 3.5mm jack? Does the second speaker output stereo?
Thank you Great video, very informative. With sonos products, are we able to use the them as windows pc speakers? If yes, is there an easy way to switch the paticular speaker from PC connection to the Living room Sonos speaker sets? Thank you
If i have two play 5 gen 2 , i will net to change for this one ? Or are the same on sound quality because is not cheap buy 2 more for update just a couple little things ...
Im in the market to get a Sonos Five speaker and don't currently have any other Sonos devices (yet). Would you recommend getting the Play Five (cheaper but seems the same) or the new Five?
Please assist;
1) Can I play music from my iPhone 11 to a pair of SONOS FIVE?
2) How about watching Netflix on iPad and the movie sound played from the speakers?
3) While using a pair of SONOS FIVE, should I use 3.5mm line in jack of both speakers to play from a single source like a vinyl player?
Yes using AirPlay
1-yes (airplay or Sonos app)
2- yes ( airplay 2)
3-one line in source can send audio to all other Sonos speakers on that system. For UA-cam and movies you’ll need to adjust audio delay settings to get rid of the lag.
So, does the sound ever glitch, lag, or get interrupted as it is only running off wifi and not Bluetooth? I was going to get this for my parents as an anniversary gift, but am a little apprehensive as we have only used traditional Bluetooth speakers in the past. My parents home has stable and reliable wifi. Thank you in advance!
Dude, I have a few play 1s ones, play 5s, 2 amps... Well worth it... Make sure you have decent ISP service up and down as well as 2.4ghz wifi throughput the home or Cat5/6 for LAN. I'm a network engineer and highly recommend over any other music system. period. (😂Unless custom setups which I'm not talking about that...)
@@ABUNDANCEandBEYONDATHLETE have you heard bowers & Wilkins they piss on sonos but Sonos is def. top 3
I’m thinking of buying the Sonos five and a CD player or a demon 41 , which would you recommend as I have lots of apple iTunes music and 100’s of cds
i am a bass lover, should I buy this?
Hi, Can't make up my mind whether to get the Sonos 5 or Bose S1.
Which is best?
Would i get better sound on the Sonos Five vs Sony SRS X99
Does it have google assistant?
Purchased this today online from John Lewis , can the aux line in be used for a CD player ?
Nice production values, Would like to see proper run down on a Bang & Olufsen A9 or Balance speaker please.
Do you think I can place 4-6 of these in a large room that is 2000 square feet?
Would I be able to use them with virtual DJ?
Would have been cool if u had the Gen 1 to compare with these
I have all Sonos for my home theater. But use the JBL Boombox in my gym for tunes. It’s loud, sounds great. Was $400. Worth it to pay the $500 for this new Five?
Hi 👋
I have a question which one better Sonos Five or bluesound pulse 2i?
I currently have a Sonos playbase with 2 Sonos one’s in stereo diagonally placed behind me, would you say the 5 is a fitting solution for an overhead speaker(in front or behind) to create more of a Dolby atmos sensation? I know only the sonos arc has true Dolby atmos, but I was wondering if that’s comparable with the setup I just mentioned. Help please!!!
I like my Sonos and have two Play Five’s. I use the line in for my IPad and computer but wish they had an option for higher end audio. Would like a Kef LS50 wireless with builtin SonoS. Would be great combination. Or Elac Navis.
Buy the kef ls50 then a sonos connect? Or amp? Expensive but gets you want you want
@kevin, did you connect line-in to both speakers from your iPad ? How many line-in does the speakers have. Like you have to switch connections between iPad and computer while using them?
The option for higher end audio would consist of buying a separate dedicated DAC and plugging it into the AUX input.
Does this speaker also works nicely on very low volume? Or does it need a higher "minimum volume" to listen to it?
Good question... answer needed!!
Great video thank-you. Is there any word on Sonos working with HomeKit and Siri?
How does music sound quality compare to other smart speakers like the Bose 500 and others?
Is it worth buy sonos play 5 because of price? Cca 350 eur or go for five with price 580 eur in my country?
Can you use 1 x sonos five mounted horizontally to act as both rear channels for surround when used with a sonos arc?
yes you can
hey hey great video :) how does the voice assistent works cant find it in my s2 app got the newest model???
It would be informative when you have an audio sample to identify the source of the music. For example are these from a Phonograph or from a streaming service?
Richard Gilmore that’s a good point and we will include this in our future videos. Thanks for the feedback.
Great review!
Can I have 2 line in devices if I get a pair of play 5s? I’d like to connect my turntable and also an echo show to bring Alexa to it.
Yes you can :)
Can you set these Sonos Five speakers up to your Google home?
Great review 👏👏
Did they fix the faulty wifi card problem??
Hello, is it possible to configure 4 speakers in the same room ? thanks
Can I use the Sonos 5 with the arc and Gen 3 sub for home theater setup. Love your videos thanks
11:33. What is this hi-def sound? Hardware or Software upgrade? Please be clear. Otherwise good video. Thank you.
Can a single Play Five (Gen 2) play stereo like the Play Five??
We've had so much trouble getting our sonos to connect with new boost. It still can't find it even with an ethernet cord! Help
whats the frequency response , sensitivity?
Can I connect 2 new sonos 5 and 1 play 5???
am.. new play 5 can play 35hz?
and you can hear?
Can Sonos Five, be set to be wired of needed?
Can the five connect to sonos sub gen 1?
If using two 5’s as surround speakers in a home theater setup with a playbase, and a sub should the 5’s be positioned horizontal or vertical? Thanks.
Thats a good question.
how come it still only supports up to wifi 802.11g?
Good afternoon ,,, greetings from Colombia ,, I would like to know what options you can advise me for a sound in my house ,,, a system with great sound quality and great power, as well as excellent connectivity ,,,, thanks
Is this better than the Sonos one sl?
How does this compare to B&W Formation Wedge?
The downside I see of it being only through Wi-Fi connection is that if there’s a hurricane and the power goes out(I live in Florida Miami specifically) I won’t be able to play music through Bluetooth
If you can power your Fives; then, you can power your wi-fi. You are handicapping the Fives if you play bluetooth music and the music will be interrupted with calls, email, and notifications . The Sonos Roam or Move would be perfect for emergency you described.
Thank you for this video and these very detailed explanations. What connection does it take to connect a stereo sonos 5 sound system to a vinyl player? Connecting a single 5 sound system by cable allows it to put the sound in stereo or another method is needed. Thank you for your answer.
Thank you!
I used to be an absolute Sonos fan. Sadly, when I decided to upgrade my system made of an Arc and a play:5 gen 2 by buying a Sonos Five.
This way I could pair the 2 Fives as stereo and also use them as surround speaker for my arc.
Guess what, they're not compatible!
Although, they're almost identical and cost the same price, they wouldn't simply pair up!
I am moving on to a brand that's not making a 3 year old product of $500 obsolete.
I think you can fix that with the SonoSequencr app
Not really wireless when there’s wires coming out the back is it? 👀 BTW I have 2 Sonos Play 5’s with a Playbar.. couldn’t ask for more really..
Very helpful thanks for the review
Amigo que es mejor. Un Sonos five y Sonos Sub? O dos Sonos five?
I notice you have both Sonos 5's on the same tabletop along with the turntable!! How did you do that? No vibration? I just ordered a pair of 5s and some stands. Now I am wondering if I need the stands. Cheers
Thanks for the comment. It is a better experience on stands and we would recommend staying with them.
@@smarthomesounds Thanks so much! Much appreciated. After some research and videos I ordered a set of Kanto SP32PL . Can't wait to add these speakers to my Sonos ecosystem! Cheers
I like my Sonos system I figure the hardware is good for decades...but I’m already a little wary of this S1 and S2 software in a year or two Sonos will stop updating and supporting S1 so we will be forced to upgrade to newer products running the new software 🤔 hope not just saying
Hi Brian,
I had the same concerns, I was fortunate that all of my devices supported S2, but you can do a compatibility check to see how your system will cope.
Thanks for a good vid. How does the Five match the Bluesound Pulse 2i. What are the pros and cons?
You can't get the same sound quality over bluetooth compared to the much wider bandwidth over wi-fi.
@@mrgold3591 Indeed you are very right. Since I wrote the above I have now bought 2 Pulse 2i and put them in stereo. Very clear and open soundstage. Sonos is good on the base but Bluesound has a completely different cleaner, open and less muddled sound compared to Sonos.
That bass slaps!! I was thinking about getting this speaker. I already have a Sonos move and want to get started on creating a system, will the two speakers be able to work with each other?
Not as a stereo pair
@@jShingi thanks. I got the speaker and they do work, not as a stereo pair Ofcourse but still sounds fantastic
Lp looked like bicep? Good choice
Paul Stewart good spot 👍🏻
Dose have a bluetooth ?
only problem with spotify is that it wont let you cast local music to wifi speakers
Can I use two of the Sonos five as surround with Arc bar and sub gen3?
Clau G To my understanding, the Fives would be overkill as surround sound speakers as they will drown out your soundbar and everything else, making it not sound good. Every answer I’ve come across says to use the Ones. I use the Ones and it’s a great setup
@@jakepayne2985 I use the Play:1s as rear Surrounds with an Arc and I'm not happy with the Play:1 sound quality. So I assume I would not be happy with the Ones either. I wish Sonos had maintained the Play:3s. I'm considering the 5s.
Bill Jacobi Well, the Ones work better if you just think of them as accessory sound. The majority of the sound is coming from your Arc and Sub, and the Ones just provide some added surround sound. I love mine, but I’m not 100% happy with the Beam, and want a stronger bar like the Arc
@Hugh Jassole @Bill Jacobi
I bought two days ago the arc, the sub and what Hugh Jassole said about the surround seemed logic to me, so i also chose the one's as surrouds. I can assure you Bill Jacobi, that this goes the best for a balanced surround system. Choosing sonos also means the best sound from a compact surround system, so there the one's also have this advantage over five's. The five's, i think they go best in a different room as a pair plus the sub. That would be a great sound system especially for music.
Can this be paired with sonas beam ? Also how is this with pc thru aux jack?
Yes this will pair with the Sonos Beam, the Aux will work via the PC but there may be a slight delay so would not recommend for gaming.
Are there some serious competitors (quality/price range) against this sonos play 5?
B£O M5
@@BoozyWoozy83 Not good!
I received it on friday but i thought the bass was really really lacking. I was excepting a lot more on that front. To me it didn't sound any better then a stereo pair of One's. Which is strange considering the price point. To me it sounds kind of tinny. So i wouldn't recommend buying this one unfortunately.
I never understood why they don’t just make it BLUETOOTH instead of Wifi connection
I don't get it either. It's insane to me that you even need wifi to use Line-in function. It's ridiculous. Normal Line-in can't be that costly. Who's dumb idea was it to make the speaker completely relient on wifi?
@@redkinsley4251 expensive ass speakers with no Bluetooth 😂
If I have a Mac Mini, how would I connect to this? Via the aux port?
Yes if your Mac Mini has an Aux, it will work or alternatively you can share the audio using AirPlay 2. Hope that helps.
One Sonos five or two Sonos one?
I know this is OT but when will you start doing TV overviews again?
Is there any audio delay when using vinyl? Like as soon as you drop the needle you hear sounds?
Tim A thanks for the comment. There is a few milliseconds delay which is fine for everyday listening but not good for DJ use. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
@@smarthomesounds Awesome thanks for the update. That actually helps me alot! Btw i love the clean setup.
Ok serious question. For a small listening environment, two seems like overkill. Am I wrong in thinking that? Anyone wanna attest/contest?
For a small environment you might not need the overall level of volume that two Five's can produce but you will benefit from the Bass response, stereo imaging & clarity of the two Fives. Alternatively two Sonos One's could be an option set up in stereo mode. This however wont have the same bass response.
