FINALLY the sickest, fullest hppop vocal video, thx man, was hoping to see the trick with recording on pitched down track, and pitching all up afterwards, but that already a ton man. Btw when using midi routed autotune the vocal needs to be warped propperly as if not they tend to jump
if you want the sixth effect to exchange precision for automation in ableton, you can record at a slower tempo, then set it to beats retune on transients and speed it up. it'll detect roughly where each word is and cut it up like that
🔥 im wanting to learn to how to make vocals like this. this vid had a lot of good info thanks. about to look through your channel for more. thanks again for the help.
i’m confused as to how you routed the autotune to midi. is that within the waves tune plugin? or is the whole vocal track being sidechained to a midi track? also does the midi track have anything on it, or does the midi route automatically give it that effect?
This is a good one! The vocal shake sound seems to come from the vocal and the bass competing for the same space. Because bass sounds are so low in frequency, you can hear the individual hertz. At their wavelength peak, they cover up the vocal. At the wavelength dip, the vocal will slip through. All that's needed is to put the vocal and a bass in a bus together and some volume related plugin that forces them to compete for space. I usually use a soft clip distortion for this (You may be able to do it with a limiter or a hard compressor). To get the desired sound, you will really need to play with the "volume in" of both the bass and the vocal. You may need to add or subtract dramatic amounts of gain to get it to sit just right. This effect can also be achieved without the bus/volume plugin by clipping the master output. I wouldn't always recommend this because it gives you less control when mixing and if you were to bounce your stems, the effect wouldn't exist anymore.
For ableton, I create a midi channel with no instruments or plugins on it. I’ll then go to the right side of the channel and click on the routing destination. This may be hidden, you can pull it up through one of the buttons on the bottom right of the screen. Make sure it’s routed to your tuning plugin, especially it it’s not the first plugin in your chain. For wavestune live, i need to click an additional button called Target Pitch. From there I then click in midi in the original midi channel and it works! I’m not at my computer right now so i may be missing something.
@@VarsityBeats Any tips on how to do this in Logic? I can use the sends to get it to a bus, but cant send it directly through a plugin on the vocal track.
Bro. I can’t figure out how to put Glitch on my voice. I’m pretty new to FL, but I can’t for the life of me to get it to impact just one line. It effects the whole melody I recorded and or doesn’t even show up. I can’t figure this shit out lol
You'll need to route the audio clip that you want glitch on to a different channel in the channel rack. From what I remember about FL, you should be able to double click the audio file and assign the channel in the top right of the window that opens
@@VarsityBeats ok, welp that was my fear I would have to do each line differently but it’s ok I should probably do that anyways huh for stuff like that. Thank so much bro I’ve spent a week with this eating me alive lol
great stuff! i've been trying for hours to route the midi into mautopitch like you did at 1:06 but just can't get that option loaded. any settings that i am missing? cheers
I think it's the "BA Organ Bass [FP]" that comes stock with Serum. 3 oscillators, all sine waves. first is -1 octave, second is regular, third is +1 octave and +7 semitones with volume automated to make it a pluck on just this oscillator. the other oscillators are sustained.
But if you have to pitch it up +2 semitones how do you still keep it in the songs key? Like you gotta record it in another key with the beat pitched -2 and then put the beat back to normal and pitch the voice up and also put the manipulator on it?
are you talking about where I said pitch it up +2 semitones before the autotune? If you are routing midi into the autotune plugin, it will lock to the pitch of the midi. Sometimes forcing a higher note down to a lower one gives an interesting sound. Let me know if that helps
incredible guide! When I try to transpose the vocal up on the sample itself, before it goes into the autotune, the transposed notes become really patchy and only occasionally comes through (even when the sample is set to complex pro). This is while using midi to control the pitch--when attempting your fun tip #2 from effect 1 at the beginning of the vid. Any insight on this?
For anyone curious, I figured it out! I'm using Antares Pro, and you have to make sure the mode is selected to formant (the 2 buttons in the top right next to the "auto tune pro" label). If you have Classic mode (or nothing) selected, it won't pitch correctly when transposing the audio recording itself. Of note, I found that selecting nothing sounds slightly crisper when not formant shifting the audio sample, and instead just using midi to control the shifting. So basically if you want to do fun tip #2 you have to select formant mode, otherwise select nothing. Can't use classic. Hope this helps!
First, make sure there aren't any plugins on the midi channel. Then, on the right side of the screen, there should be a drop-down list of where you can send the midi. If you don't see it, make sure you're on the view where the tracks are horizontal. If it's still not there, click one of the small buttons at the bottom right of the screen to pull up the additional menus. It also doesn't show sometimes if the channel height is too narrow, so try dragging out the height of the midi channel to be larger. Another thing to note is the routing destination will have multiple options depending on the amount of plugins on the channel you're routing it to. If your pitch-correction/tuning plugin isn't the first plugin on your vocal channel, you'll need to choose it in the second drop-down menu that will appear. That's how I do it on Ableton, I hope it helps
@@VarsityBeats Wow man thank you so much, i use Ableton too but i was messin around with the midi settings on the plugin. Congratulation for the channel and the content. You r doin a great job, sei forte bro ✌

doing the lords work!!! i’ve listened to these artist for years wondering how they achieved these sounds! thank you so much for sharing!

So gooood!!!!! Love your vids

damn one of the few to so closely replicate a vocal effect so well let alone 10 of them lol, please do rouri404 next!
thank you! I might get to it, I just added it to the list
Because the key moments don't line up...
0:19 - Harsh Pitch Correct
1:22 - Fuzzy Crushed
2:10 - Distorted + Pitched Up
3:04 - Crispy Harmony
4:00 - Pitch Correct + Glide
5:00 - Chopped Effect
5:23 - Fuzzy Parallel Distortion
6:25 - Pitch Up + Big Delay
8:03 - Vocal Pluck + Doubler
9:28 - Bandpass + harmonies
This was incredible. Would love to see one on Charli xcx “claws.” Not so pitched up but great effects.
agreed! I think the key thing in Clawsa is a wet delay with a very short delay time.
so so goooood!

not sure what style, I've never been good with subgenre names

so do you record the vocals at a lower pitch?
how is the MIDI made at :27 mark. It looks like the MIDI is following the vocal recording? Help 😮
I clicked in the notes, it's easier to do using midi on an instrument track (like a piano) and then drag the midi into the routing track
