Hell yeah, I want you to do more vids about this! It's only my second favorite Star Wars media (The Force Unleashed 1 is my favorite) ever!

I love how VPNs advertize them selves as a security system with military grade encription (any site with the lock icon has that) cuz they cant have in their ad "the best way to get around region block"
Let’s be honest, Assaj Ventress running backwards up a flight of stairs in a full length skirt is the REAL feat of acrobatics on Yavin IV.
I was just thinking how hard it would be, to run up stairs backward. When I saw your comment.
@@dd11111 not to mention backtracking in an ankle-length skirt is a good way to end up on your arse, stairs or no stairs, running or no running.

The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some may consider...unnatural *climb stairs while running backwards
Seriously. Not to mention all that acrobatic stuff in the trees.
I love how they made General Grevious one of those ‘Unstoppable Force’ characters. He really felt like a Jedi killer, and way more badass. Watching his fight scenes in the older Clone Wars series never gets old.
I personally prefer the Movie Grievous and his fight scenes but I wish I could love the Grievous here as much as everyone else seems to. For me he's super interesting and compelling in the movies but in this show he's a block of wood with gimmicks. The new Clone Wars is even worse.
Like when Grievous shatters the clone trooper helmet in the Chancellors room? Never gonna not get goosebumps OR forget that satisfyingly intimidating crunch
Robert Ortiz-Wilson Manda-Lore! Love his videos as Captain Fordo. Dude got me into the original Clone Wars continuity.
Yes, Please as said by the user above, this Grievous’ character is explored way more in depth in the rest oft the EU and just makes him the best version overall.
@@VinVonVoom I gotta disagree. Here, it actually makes sense why he's in charge of the droid army and why he has lightsabers as trophies. He truly is a cyborg general who kills Jedi for sport and keeps their weapons as his.

This version of the Clone Wars is what happens when you look at animation as a art form, and not just a storytelling medium.
The only problem I see with this version is that the amazing action animation used in grievous’s and mace windu’s scenes weren’t used for the whole thing. The star fighting scenes were very unsatisfying to watch.
Some Animal what star fighting scenes did you watch? Imo the animation quality is pretty consistent all the way through.

These animations make grevious look like a complete badass. Something we never really saw before.
He literally takes on 5 Jedi at once and obliterates them all.
And without his extra arms!
And something we havent seen since unfortunetly. 2003 feels like an alternate timeline where characters given their all to win the war over having fancy tactics and political debates.
And he was given a BUILD UP, a suspense of terror which makes the fight capitalize on a tension that's already in viewer's mind. That's how you handle a villain, Genndy did a masterful work.
Actually, animated series are were we can truly see what Jedis are truly capable of. The reason why the movies don't show it it's because if they show that kind of things in live action, then people wouldn't believe it at all.

I’ve been trying to get people to pay attention to it since I was like 6
Winnie The Flu I owe you and all the other OG fans an apology bro, I was sleepin on this show back in the day. Only started gettin into Star Wars just recently
My favorite lightsaber duel from Star Wars: Clone wars was the fight between Anakin and Ventress on Yavin 4, it’s a pretty intense and entertaining fight. And pushes the limits of how a duel between Two Force users looks with such Fast paced animation style, not to mention it has a badass Soundtrack.
Yearlonggiant it’s honestly one of the best duels in any Star Wars movie or show. The pacing of it is absolutely perfect - tension build up with the clones getting rekt, intense fighting followed by the cat and mouse part, change in weather, the fighters take a break to size each other up, it’s on point thematically... honestly perfect
Rogue Matter and how impossible it would be to create in live action 😂
And then you realize this is a duel between two people that aren't even in the league of masters yet. So imagine a duel between a Sith Lord and Jedi Master of TOR in this animation. It'd last a whole damn hour. And no joke, a Jedi Master in the actual SWTOR MMO states that he dueled a Sith Lord on a moon for 2 days straight. How fucking hardcore can you people get !? 🤣
BlackShogun 27 The Old republic trailers capture the duels between Jedi and Sith pretty well too 😂
Rogue Matter agree 100% one of the best duels that Star Wars has to offer

Dark horse’s comics were so good
I consider this show to be Episode 2.5
George personally approved every creative decision in it and even screened the whole series before the initial showing of Revenge of the Sith.
Everything except Grievous's backstory and personality, which he retconned.
i wish there was a "Sam Jackson reacts to Mace Windu" vid where he sees all the cool shit his character does
Apparently he has done this before, but it was because a friend showed him. He said that we just felt like he played even more of a badass than he had originally thought
12 minutes isn’t enough to cover this masterpiece.
YES! The original series is definitely one of the most underrated pieces of content in Star Wars. The visual storytelling and action are some of the best in the franchise.
I remember racing home to watch these five minutes of beauty every week. You describe them brilliantly, alongside the actual scenes: it just matches very well. The excitement and passion you have for this show is palpable. Grievous was the coolest in this show, and that Asajj fight is one of my all-time favorite lightsaber (force user?) battles. Wish it was on Disney Plus, but thank you for highlighting such an under appreciated and gorgeous cartoon.
4:49 one of the coolest darkest scenes in SW and one reason why this series was better than any other SW series so far imo...
Also reason grevious isn't great in ep3 is due to windu crushing him in this... Hence the cough
When Grievous unveils his four arms just once is amazing
This was my childhood, Stil watch this show after ep 2 and before ep 3, when binging all the movies... it just fits
The good old days, watching every new episode with one of my best friends, enjoying any bit of Star Wars until Episode III was to come out
When 2003 Grievous is able to scare Shaggy, you know he's a real badass
It legitimately shocks me every time I hear that Greavous only shows up in episode 3 because I was so familiar with him from watching all of these repeatedly as a kid.

This is my favorite take on the Clone Wars. The later Clone Wars cartoon was/is great, but this one was amazing.
The ARC troopers crash landing their LAAT and casually getting out like nothing happened is forever entrained into my memory from this movie
This cartoon was AWESOME!!!
Have no clue why Grievous was nerfed in Revenge of the Sith.
Because he's way more compelling that way. A Vader clone with less personality and a sillier voice isn't very interesting. Movie Grievous is a trick fighter and he's a genuinely cunning and engaging. He even has a better (if brief) fight scene between him and Kenobi. I've adored this show for a long time but Grievous in ROTS is much better IMO, this show he feels like a block of wood that looks and fights kinda cool.
@@VinVonVoom No he's not. Please stop repeating the same comment over and over again.
@@VinVonVoom Nope. The simple reason is because when this show was in production George Lucas simply said "Grievous is the general of the droid armies who carries jedi lightsabers as trophies", and Genndy took that idea and ran with it. Unfortunately midway into the second season George revealed that Grievous was supposed to be a _pathetic Saturday Morning Cartoon villain_ , and Genndy decided he'd compromise and make up something about Mace destroying Grievous' insides with the same technique he used to tear Super Battle Droids apart and break his windpipe to match the movie Lucas had just finished filming.
@@SpecterVonBaren Similar, perhaps but I didn't copy paste anything and I brought up entirely different points. Also calling him a block of wood was just a fun allegory really, bit of an exaggeration.
@@VinVonVoom "A trick fighter" -eh, no? He doesn't do anything smart and then dies. CW Grievous is the one who really is smart and cunning. He is the one who has a vast array of techniques and tactics to fight the jedi.
His duel with Kenobi in ROTS was absolute garbage, lol. Horrendous choreography with Grievous just swinging his lightsabers through the air near Obi Wan's face 90% of the time instead of actually trying to kill him, more than 20 times when Kenobi should have logically died, and the end of it is just silly.
Dude, you are so spot on. This "stupid, little cartoon" did so much more for the prequel stories than the movies did and actually showed much more maturity in it's delivery for tension and character.
If you didn’t notice, that temple Ventress and Anakin are fighting on is the rebel base on Yavin-4 from a New Hope

2003 Clone Wars: "They're just clones, sir, they're meant to be expendable"
2008 Clone Wars: "Not to me."
This show has always been canon in my mind, and I agree completely with what you said about Grievous. He is pretty stupid in the movies but here he is awesome. In my mind after Windu crushed his chest, giving him the cough, Grievous became more scared of dying and weary of combat with a Jedi, which made him more cowardly in the Ep. III.
Thing is, Windu crushing his chest in this show happens about 10 minutes prior to the opening of Revenge of the Sith. The timeframe doesn’t work out for him becoming a total coward in the 3D series, and just barely might explain his Ep. III showing.
@@jacksonscott3667 Yeah that is a good point, and I was referring specifically to his cowardice in Ep. III, like you said there isn't a good explanation for it in the 3D series. There are some great things in the 3D series and some terrible things, I personally prefer the 2003 Clone Wars overall to the 3D series.

_YES. SOMEONE WHO ACKNOWLEDGES THIS SERIES. YES._
I recently decided to watch Clone Wars, The Clone Wars and Rebels because I thought it was about time. Immediately after watching Clone Wars I knew that I was going to learn to regret it...because it isn't canon, but it's so good.
The fact that they used the voice actors later, in the Revenge of the Sith video game that I grew up with also really helped.
lol i guess that's the effect of good storytelling lol. Should've watched it in the reverse order. Worst to best

God I remember when this show aired on Cartoon Network when I was 9 years old. Every Friday night I would be sitting in front of the TV with excitement waiting for the new episode to come on. The lead up to ROTS was excellent with the show ending right at the start of the movie.
General Grievous is my favorite character!
This is the Grievous we need. A killing machine that stops at nothing to make Jedi suffer.
Mace Windu is an absolute G.
What is that
I wish future live-action Star Wars movies has over the top fights like Clone Wars'.
You're writing, hilarious! The show itself, incredible! Yes you should continue talking about Star Wars: Clone Wars, you're great when you talk about it. I liked the small fights too, like Kit Fisto fighting under water and Barris Offee and Luminara(?) on the Jedi Crystal world. I forget that one lol we need more!
I have seen this show probably 25 times. It’s incredible
Grievous in 2003 and also in his comic appearances is my favourite Star Wars villain.
Revenge of the Sith was... ok.
It wasn’t his movie and he was only a side character made to be killed off, just like in canon.
But 2008... oh man.
Look how they massacred my boy.
The retcon was a disgrace.
He lost all the attributes that made him threatening, he lost his backstory that actually made his position feel justified and rather tragic.
He turned into a literal saturday morning cartoon villain with a personality to match.
They invented plenty of other fodder characters so why did they have to ruin him?
I think that and the droids being buffoons is all that keeps me turned off from that show, sadly. I can't easily get over those things when Ive seen them treated like serious threats in the past.
Usually when people make statements about Grievous, or how he's portrayed in each medium (EU, movie, TCW) I half agree half disagree, but I'll be honest by saying you summed up my thoughts exactly and I absolutely agree with everything you said.
Damn shame this comment hasn't gotten more traction, but I guess it's not technically a popular opinion, so there's that.
Seems people often forget that Grievous is mortally injured during the events of RotS and the reason he acts differently is because of that, it's not fair to judge someone so poorly based off of the last few days of their life, especially if that problem is he's simply recovering and trying not to die in a weakened state.
It's also overlooked that RotS has like, 12 fights in it, with its runtime and Grievous not being the main antagonist, the content of his fight suffered severely for it, same with Dooku after all.
Absolom Apple
Thank you for your open mind.
Absolom Apple
Though I must stipulate that he is not mortally injured, only severely injured.
@@rustkarl Well I suppose that's fair, I more ment he was mortally injured when Mace nearly killed him, but he heals rather quickly, so as the days pass he heals more, the point is I think people forget he's injured at all.
Anakin screaming at the end of the fight made me laugh. I feel like it was so out of nowhere, wth
Thought Mace Windu had a red lightsaber in the thumb nail for a moment.
This channel covering *this* show? A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Please cover more.
The Clone Wars is a beautifully and uniquely animated show, but honestly, this has got to be the best Star Wars animation ever.
Yeah i watched the full series on youtube
Okay, you have earned the like just for putting Space Jam to Mace Windu’s episode. I applaud you, sir!
This show, without question was the best two hours of SW since the originals and doesn't get near the credit it should.
Another thing to mention about that fight with Grievous and the Jedi: he didn't care about the fight.
Let me explain:
1) He didn't say a single word. He only talked before the fight began where he promised the Jedi a warrior's death. He didn't even go on about how the Jedi were foolish or stupid for what they stood for or for fighting him. He just brutally killed each and every one of them, except for the one that got away.
2) He didn't show any emotion during the fight. The Jedi were fighting for their lives and were afraid at a few points. Not Grievous. He had a straight face the entire time. He didn't show glee when mercilessly killing the Jedi. He didn't laugh when he slammed the guy's head into the floor or while he was effortlessly overwhelming Shak-ti (probably butchered her name).
3) He didn't show his full power. It looked like he was overwhelming Shak-ti without much effort even though Shak-ti was trying everything to gain the upper hand. And that's not to mention that he could've used all four of his arms, but he didn't. He only used two and even then he mopped the floor with the Jedi. I'd like to interpret it as he didn't find them worthy of him using all four of his arms.
That's what I'd have to say about the matter. Grievous didn't care at all about the fight. He didn't enjoy doing it, he didn't hate doing it, he just did it. And that's what I think is scary about him.
The mace windu part is the part I still remember after watching this show like more than 5 years ago!
Two things
1) I'd love a Mace Windu movie but instead of SLJ, I wouldn't actually mind seeing Michael B Jordan take on the role of a new Jedi Knight sent on his first mission. He just seems perfect for the role in my mind.
2) One of the most underrated moments from the show is the Knighting of Anakin.
If he could lose that thick American accent, it would make an epic movie
I'm so fucking happy you covered this. Samurai Jack and this show were the crown jewels of my childhood. And you gave this shit the praise it fucking deserves.
Keep talking about it mate. Star Wars needs to remember this beauty of a series
If you want actual war and nonstop action, Tartakovsky's Clone Wars is the Clone Wars for you.
If you want clones to have character and go a bit more philosophical, Filoni's Clone Wars is the Clone Wars for you.
In the past I've said that Tartakovsky's is the better of the two, but I've come to realize that they've become too different from one another to really say one is better on the whole than the other because they have two very different goals.
But if they don't change anything about the battle of Coruscant and Palpatine's capture in this Final Season of Filoni's Clone Wars, then I argue that what we see in Tartakovsky's still happens because that chase through Coruscant and that train fight is just too awesome to retcon, -which then makes Tartakovsky's the better of the two.-
Sometimes, something is so incredibly awesome that it doubles back around to hilarious in the best way possible. That's how I feel about this series.
A suprise to be sure but a welcomed one :)
that asajj vs anakin fight was epic
I remember catching a few segments on TV back in 03. I loved it. I used to rent the first volume from my local video store all the time. That Grievous cliffhanger. Wow. I never knew the show had a second volume until I got the Internet in 2007. When I finally got to watch the entire series, it blew my mind. (I’m just saying the story isn’t that good, it’s the action that’s good)
I will NEVER understand why Disney decided to make this non-canon. This show rules.
One of my favorite take always with this show was how powerful Grievous and Windu were, and when they met at the end how Windu put Grievous’ health at serious jeopardy. I felt like it was a great tie in to Revenge of the Sith and why Grievous was wheezing and vulnerable the whole time.

Im glad you've been able to love old grievous as much as I do. I mean to love this show as much as I do
This was my favorite thing ever done in the SW world. Even more than the original trilogy. I just loved this style.
To this day I remember the rain drops sizzling off lightsabers. And the other two scenes you talk about - Grevious as well as Mace - still stick in my mind.
I think I watched PARTS of this show and just once (never saw any more than twice), but I still remember those scenes to this day. ONE other I remember that you didn't mention was the episode where they meet the aliens. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember something to do with his arm and how it kind of presages his future, kind of like the Clone Wars episodes on Mortis.
Great moments that still resonate in my mind all these years later.
Clone wars 2003 was a great show. Like you said, the action is fantastic! The only complaint I have about it is that their is very little emotion. Sure, Anakin taps into the dark side in the Ventress duel, but it was all about the war. The clones, the very people the show is named after, are treated like droids. But it has a niche, and it makes it masterful.
This is, in contrast, to the now canon clone wars
While the other one was jam-packed with emotion. The duels aren’t about what happens, it is what builds up to them. Old enemy’s fighting again (Maul v. Kenobi), A master seeing his apprentice’s accomplishments (Maul+Savage v. Sidious) and two pawns fighting to see who is better (Grievous v. Ventress). The emotion was there, in just one episode you could go from cheering to sadness. While 2003 CW was bumper cars, Canon CW was a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
In conclusion, both series have roles that they perfect. The action for 2003 and the emotion in the Canon. If both creators collaborated to create RoTS, it would probably contend for movie of the year in 2005.
This video does a good job summing up this show. I think the general audience misconceived the show by its aesthetics without giving it a real chance as it was actually very dark for a kids show with amazing dramatic build ups and the best part being the new characters being introduced.
YES YES YES MORE 2003 ANIMATED STAR WARS
I’ve realized this a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when they aired it on Cartoon Network on Friday for like 5 minutes
That Windu scene was BOSS. But what does it imply about what Vader can do? And I’m pretty sure, it’s cannon that Anakin/Vader is more powerful than old Mace.
you can talk about it all day and i can watch you talk about it all day
Definitely do more of this show. It's just excellent.
Personal favourite, following the clones on their siege of that droid controlled city. I think it is arguably the best that the troops have ever looked and it's just so satisfying to watch.
There's something else that's really great about the very end of the Asajj fight, which is the part where Anakin wails on Asajj after backing her into a corner. It's almost certainly a callback to Return of the Jedi, when Luke did the same exact thing against Vader. The difference of course being that, afterwards, Luke calmed his rage, while Anakin relished in it.
Loved this old show as a kid, and still do.
The thing about General Grevious is that when Lucasfilm sent out a picture of what General Grevious looks like they didn't bother to send bio or how he should act. It was just a picture. So Tartakovsky and his team ran with it and created badass Grevious.
We need more videos on this series, such a masterpiece
Just because of how neatly this fits into the Saga (starts right after Geonosis, ends with the battle of Coruscant) Imma start including this in the Star Wars movie marathon.
I had this show on DVD and I watched it so much as a kid.

Great commentary of the Clone Wars animation. Perfect descriptions of each scene. Yeah man...keep it up. I gotta go back and watch the whole thing all over again now.
I love this show just like I did when I watched it in 2003, the action is phenomenal and you truly see the power of the PT era Jedi in the force, it also introduced some incredible characters like Fordo and Durge the attention to detail was great, and Anakins duel on Yavin 4 is one my favorite SW duels of all
Mace Windu on Dantooine inspired the entire ten books character arch of what it means to be a master for my book series! Finally done right! Perfection.
Yes more please this was my first introduction to star wars before any trilogy
That series was pure gold. Assaj recruiting scenes by Dooku in the arena and later in her resting room ware also iconic. Not the best voice acting though in French, we had the chance to have the same dub voices than in the movies.
And Anakin's and Obi Wan journey in the second part are also a very good story ark, not to mention that we finally get to see a Jedi knighting ceremony !
And Kit Fisto fighting into the waters of Mon Calamari are also a memorable part.
