Great list and summary of each. I do think there needs to be an asterisk next to some, such as Honorius, who became emperor at ten, and Valentinian III at age six. Do we really count the years before they came of age? Another interesting look would be the longest-lived emperors, as even those who died from natural causes had shorter lifespans than seen today. Only three lived past seventy: Antoninus (74), Augustus (75), and Tiberius (77). Vespasian came close, being just a few months from seventy when he passed. I don't count Gordian I, who may have been seventy-nine, but given that his 'reign' lasted just three weeks in the midst of a civil war, it's not like he did any actual ruling. Same with Galba, who may have occupied the throne, but his reign was so short, kicking off the Year of the Four Emperors, by the time the whole of the Empire learned of his ascension, he was dead, with Otho and Vitellius battling it out and Vespasian waiting in the wings.

That would be a good list to go into. While names like Hannibal and Arminius are pretty obvious, I think Decebalus of Dacia should be up there as well. I know there are a slew who sacked Rome and beat up her armies in the late third to fifth century, but the Empire was only a shadow of itself by the point. It'd be interesting to speculate how Odoacer would have faired against Trajan, Vespasian, or Tiberius.
Speaking of unexpectedly long reigns I know Anastasius is excluded from the list because he was a Byzantine Emperor but I will never get over how he became Emperor aged 60 and reigned for 27 years dying aged 87 in 518 Ad. And There wouldn't be a longer lived Roman/Byzantine Emperor until John VI over 800 years later.
@@mism847 You're right, Justinian did die at 83, although his rule lasted not for 20, but for 38 years (527-565) and one can even argue that he actually was the real power behind his uncle Justin's reign (518-527), thus actually ruling the Empire for 47 years (518-565)!

If Diocletian had stayed on the throne instead of retiring to grow cabbages he could have reigned nearly as long as Augustus. Imagine a timeline where he held power until he died.
Augustus reigning for so long probably helped cement the new political structure he had established. When you've lived under the rule of the same man for forty years (essentially having an entire generation of people brought up under him), the status quo sets in pretty firmly.
I sometimes think that God liked Theodosius so to make up for the fact that he died young he made his dynasty last so long. Sadly his children and grandchildren were kinda horrible.

@@amienabled6665 After reading more about Stilicho, I honestly think he comes off as a suspicious guy. There was five head-on confrontations with Alaric and all of which resulted in an indecisive outcome. This is mostly why Stilicho began to be seen as a traitor and it was believed that Stilicho simply did not want to fully defeat Alaric. Also he had an odd obsession with the eastern Roman Empire even though everyone disliked him there and told him to go away. *Once again fate intervened. On the last day of 406 the Rhine frontier was broken by a huge and mixed horde of barbarians. Gaul was being overrun. Strangely enough it was not the catastrophic invasion which induced Stilicho to put off operations against the Eastern empire. What moved him was the reaction of the threatened provincials. Constantine Ill, a usurper set up by the army in Britain, crossed over into Gaul, presumably to organize defence, and won the support of the Gallic army. Stilicho remained in Italy and sent Sarus with a force of federates into Gaul to fight, not the invading Germans, but Constantine Ill.* *Even now although Gaul was in uproar, and Alaric at the gates of Italy, Stilicho had not given up his plan of launching operations against the East eventually. Indeed the death of Arcadius on 1 May 408 revived his hope of becoming regent for a child emperor in the East, the six-year-old Theodosius II. When his power collapsed in August 408 Stilicho was hoping to proceed to the East himself with four regiments of regulars, while Alaric with part of his Goths, and some Roman troops, was to campaign in Gaul against the usurper Constantine. It is difficult to understand Stilicho's obsession with control of Illyricum and the East. Perhaps he and his advisers were motivated by an emotional attachment to the unity of the Empire. There certainly is no evidence that he regarded the Balkans as an indispensable recruiting area. When he needed troops he seems to have looked for Germans. Again, one wonders why Stilicho was so much more concerned with the usurper than with the German invaders whom the usurper Constantine III was resisting.*

can you do a video ranking every sultan of the ottoman empire
how come you didn't include the first emperor, Augustus, who reigned for over 40 years; EDIT: oh you did but failed to cut properly
Good to know my current emperor has reigned longer than Augustus in ck3. Maximus Caesar had ruled at the time of typing this for 78yrs. He's reconquered north Africa and Spain and Egypt.
Thats a videogame... If it wasn't for that, maybe some horse Anti-Pope, with the trait immortal how died at 454 years can be there.
