As far as i know that border is for those who live by the river or someone who wants to visit for some shoppings nearby and be back on the same day. Without the passport they can’t go far anyways & many people who hold 2 identity cards (Thailand & Malaysia) usually get in and out from this point. When they get to either side, it’s no longer illegal. Hehe

The border crossings are illegal by law (did a little research before making this video, because I didn't know for sure but it's a decades-old problem); but borders can't be 100% closed so this happens. I'm not sure about how much the armies on both sides look the other way, but it's basically as open as any border in the Schengen area in the spot where I was.. 😂

You should go down to Waeng town and bukit Ta too. 2 other small towns where the border of Malaysia called bukit Bunga is near Bukit Ta (Thailand side).

Most of southern Thailand from yala district and down to malasya is redflagged by many governments as "unsafe and not travelfriendly".
That's why you don't se tourists, a country redflagged place can get u in a real trouble if something happens there and your country/ embassy wont help you and most insurances wont work at all for you.

Yes, I go into a little more detail in this video and a future one from Yala. For my passport, as for many others, it's orange. A few are red like Canada for example.

@@johanstravel Worst thing is that the insurance company's in most cases DENY all help or money if something happens to you.
Thai royal army has a BIG presence down there and it happens alot of "unpleasant" things in the south by some "groups" . (cant say what or who because of UA-cam)

@@nattm6553 Yes, insurance is a tricky one, as you would need to check for yourself in extreme detail if you decide to go to southern Thailand (or any other orange/red zone). That's on top of the general situation in the area that applies to all people there. Also, situation can change quickly, making it even more risky. For me personally it was a pretty easy decision to just go though.

@@nattm6553 Wah, yeah those trips are cool.
This was my first overland trip in the region, having visited Thailand and Malaysia dozens of times ever since I moved to Indonesia in '06. Every time you'll find something new to explore a next time. 😅

Leuke vlog Johan. Ik woon al lang in Narathiwat, ong. 65 km van Sungai Kolok. Daar komen niet veel Nederlanders.

Hoi!
