Unfortunately this run is invalid because Link needs to breathe and exhaling creates a small amount of wind and you can't beat the game without exhaling
Truuuuuue
Just do the entire run while holding your breath! Problem solved
@@gferrol118 If he did that he'd obviously faint and wont be able to play. (im also pretty sure he spends more time gaming than practicing holding his breath) (also I'm talking about press A, not link)
Is it REALLY invalid when he’s just a video game character and he doesn’t ACTUALLY have to breathe???
@@KainaX122 link is implied to be warm blooded and due to the temperature difference between Link's skin and the ambient implied temperature small convection currents are generated.
It's so funny to me that you just upload this and the previous day Linkus makes a video about the new speedrun route which resolves some of the most difficult glitches you had to make. It should make you even more proud that you achieved this!

I can't wait for the sequel. Windwaker without waking! Where Link just sleeps while his sister gets kidnapped, and Ganon continues his evil plan
sounds like something kaze would do by editing the memory values of the game to beat it without ever getting out of bed
And then you combine the challenges: The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker without the Wind and without the Waker.
That'll just be The Legend of Zelda on NES.
Sleeps with his sister?
Is winding allowed?
“Link wins by doing absolutely nothing”
The “dude where’s makar” joke was better than it had any right being
Could not have been more fitting. Cracked me up too 🤣🤣
I literally had to pause the video, I was laughing for like a whole minute, straight up 😂
I'm embarrassed by how hard I laughed at it 😂
Today I realized how valuable the transcript feature is.
When was this? I definitely skipped over it 😥😥
Hey at least you’re playing the HD version. The cruise speed is like tripled compared to the GameCube version
Omg I didn’t even know that… lol
I was wondering why it looked so fast, when he first mentioned cruise I was worried but then he started speeding 😂
You also can’t do item slides in the GCN version
@@janthehuman1679true but if he were playing on the GC version, then he could just do storage using the wind waker (without actually using a wind melody). As long as he reaches a certain threshold with the MSS, storage does the rest and it’s essentially the same super swim that he does in HD
@@pressaTD couldn't you have bought the swift sail, maybe that would've saved some time
Damn, you made this so much harder than I expected from the title. I expected no wind direction changes, which would have been awful but doable. This... this is so much worse.
Same. I thought it was going to just be "don't change the wind, no warping"
I feel like it'd still be a hard challenge but not as difficult as "anything that uses the wind at all can't be used"

Can Do:
Beating Wind Waker without using any wind
Getting full power master sword AND hookshot without beating Wind Temple
Cannot Do:
Pronounce Medli's name correctly.
Leave a dungeon he hasn't finished yet, even though he already got everything he needs.
Not even leaving it early just not do it, he only needed the hookshoot no need to touch earth temple
Using a leaf to exploit upward air resistance to float: "nah that's fine"
Merely learning a three note song, and doing so offers no benefit: "I must spend hours learning a pro hack to avoid this at all costs"
BUT, in learning the song, the wind changes in the cutscene.
well, air resistance isn't wind
your comment's fine but i just wanna object to the use of the word "hack", a better word would be "glitch" or "trick". hacking implies using external hardware or software to modify the game's code and it is a big no no in speedrunning.
I mean said song does change the WIND and upward air resistance is just that, AIR resistance. So it makes sense to me.
Y'know, I recently replayed Wind Waker, (around a few months ago) and briefly joked about how the line "A boat with no sail can sail no seas" (which is said by the King of Red Lions in his introduction cutscene at Windfall) is incorrect due to the cruise feature, and how painfully long the game would be if you had to cruise all over the Great Sea.
Never did I even remotely expect that someone would do that exact idea, much less that and more; and so soon after I made that joke, too.
The reason you need a super precise angle (the one where only 16 angles work) is because the gap that you're trying to fit through (creating by developer oversight when they meant to have no gap at all) is a single pixel wide, so you have to make it so that on one frame you're on one side of that gap, the next frame you're on the other side, and that the path between those two points goes directly through that single pixel gap as to not collide with any other collision.
It's actually worse than that. In 3D video games, distances are measured in units, which are floating point values (AKA decimal numbers). Because computers cannot represent decimals with infinite precision, we accept that there is a _very_ tiny amount of error between the intended value and the range of values a computer can actually represent. For all intents and purposes, these two walls are pieces of geometry that near-perfectly connect together, but for whatever reason, they are two separate objects, and thus the floating point error means that the collision is just barely out of line.
The smallness of this gap is unreal. The gap has to be nearly the size of the floating point error value, or somewhere in the range of 1.0 x 10^-7 units. That is sub-pixel precision, in a way that is extremely difficult to fully quantify. From some basic research, each gridsquare in the Windwaker map is 1000x1000 units, which means the distance Link has to cover is 10 billionth the size of a grid square. In the context of Link's world, he is having to fit into a gap smaller than the width of the real-life transistor in the CPU that Link exists on.
It's honestly insane this glitch is possible without TAS.
@@BetaDude40 In all fairness. In many cases TAS is about doing a million sub frame perfect inputs at the exact space and time off the level, while this is a couple off relativly normal inputs, at a extremly small but static angle.
@@kommo1 I think I should correct myself and say "it's insane this setup was discovered without TAS." The trick itself isn't hard if you know it, but it blows my mind someone figured out how to do that
Linkus7 posted a few years(?) ago a picture of his arms after a some months of manual superswim grinding and you can see one if bigger than the other.

Omg is it actually lol
"Politely tell them to f**k off" is not a sentence I thought I'd ever hear, but here we are.
in an alternate universe where link is not the chosen one and he does not learn to command the winds, he instead has to swim backwards at mach speed and teleport a bunch of times to even get halfway through his journey. not to mention spending 17 hours teleporting onto a doorframe and placing a bomb down on top of it, hoping the bomb would push him through to the opposite side... which it eventually does.
Hey, I’m sure I speak for most of the people here when I say that while we love seeing these videos, your mental health is more important. Please don’t overwork yourself.
Kinda hate when people say stuff like this. Like yeah, prioritize mental health and all that's important. But also this guy plays videogames for a living. It's not that stressful, it's what most of us do for FUN, and if I could do what he does for a living instead of working every day, my mental health would be a thousand times better than it is. If he's doing this and working full time yeah that's rough but otherwise? Nah
@@probablynotdanny4384
How do you know he does it for a living?
Also, if you're so frustrated he can do this and be successful, maybe try it yourself?
@kaishedan37 I can't help but feel as though you didn't actually read my comment because I specifically commented on the possibility that he doesn't do it for a living, and I never even said I was frustrated with the fact that he did. I said that if he can do this for a living, he's lucky to get to do what most of us only dream of getting to. And the fact of the matter is the reason I don't do this for a living is because I DO have a job that takes up the majority of my time.
@@probablynotdanny4384 Okay, I get what you’re saying, but he specifically stated that it’s taking a toll on his mental health. I know for you it’d be better if you could just do what he does, but you aren’t him, and so you’re having different reactions to situations. Everyone’s problems are valid, even if you think you wouldn’t have them.
I wrote this, because he specifically said that it’s not good for his mental health, and I wanted to be nice. It doesn’t matter if you think it’d be better for you, clearly for him, it’s not as easy as it would be for you.
@@probablynotdanny4384 i mean i think OP's point is that we like seeing this guy's content and that if a trick seems impossible or a complete pain to learn we can agree that "its possible but i cant quite get it right so lets see past that and see where the run goes anyway" is a very fair excuse when you wanna push a game to its limits, not yourself
Keep in mind Korl didn't have a sail before Windfall, so he literally did this from wherever you landed after Forsaken Fortress to Windfall. You're lucky you landed a 10 feet from wherever he was in the vast ocean so he could slowly retrieve you before drowning
I've been saying that Dude Where's Makar joke for the last 20+ years and finally I see someone else say it!
I think it’s fair for not doing really MSS and assume you can do it but since it’s very hard and you don’t specially want to be a Speedrun, just pass to something else. I like this mindset.
When you try a silly-sounding challenge and accidentally become a pro Zelda speedrunner
Great run. Was caught off guard when you revealed that you were actually playing The Legend of Zoltan the whole time.

I agree. It's not as natural as he probably wanted it to sound.
Yeah
Just as a reminder, the windwaker is not the wind. It would have been fully in the spirit of the challenge to use storage for superswimming. The manual part of the manual superswim is part of the name for a reason and not needed if you can reach Dragonroost.
Storage doesn't work on the HD version.

Well done! learning those tricks looked like a pain in the ass, respect for pulling through. Must be an amazing feeling to pull of the famous barrier skip!
They call him "The Waker," but he should have never gotten out of bed this morning.
Sounds like the tagline for a movie. lol
This whole thing was just crazy, and it's amazing for it. I've seen several of your videos, too! Why haven't I just subscribed already?!
That was quite entertaining. Thanks for all the effort.
"Can it be done by just a regular guy in a boat?"
Yes, actually, because the Wind Waker _is_ just a normal guy. He's not possessed of the Spirit of the Hero. He doesn't reincarnate like the heros of the child and doomed timeline.
In a way, that makes WW Link the most badass of them all. Even Batman had the advantage of shittons of money to fund his gear.
A long long time ago, I had a version of the Legend of Zelda Anniversary collection for the Nintendo GameCube. It had all the mainline games up to Majora's Mask, and a 20-minute limited demo of Wind Waker. You could start at three points: The Forsaken Fortress, Windfall Island, and Dragon Roost Cavern. The first time I played this game, I started on Windfall. I got in my boat, decided to aim toward that strange arrow on the back of my trusty vessel....and mashed every button on the controller. The sail was not equipped automatically, and I was a dumb kid who didnt know what a Pause menu was, so when I find you can make the ship go forward holding R, I thought that was the only way to go.
The whole first 20 minutes of my Wind Waker experience was spent slowly trudging my way across the ocean. I didn't even reach Paw Print Isle before my time was up and it booted me back to the game select screen. No, I wasn't going in a straight line.
I went to play Majora's Mask instead. I fared a lot better there.
Dude where's Makar, that got me lmao xD

It's funny how many challenge videos almost instantly get an insanely humanly-difficult roadblock/inevitable stop that prevents a pure run. I'm very happy that the common cencensus is "I know, but... just ignore that bit." cause we still get an abundance of interesting tricks after.
You are filled with DETERMINATION

1:04 just started watching so I’m not sure if this is gonna be mentioned anywhere, but, this is actually why Windwaker Link is my favourite Link from the entire LoZ Series.
He ISN’T the Hero of Legend, he’s just a kid who REALLY wants to save his sister. He’s literally just some kid with a boat and he STILL fights against the odds just because he loves his sister that much.
I love that ❤
I didn't expect a challenge run video to be inspirational.
No way you just beat The Legend of Zelda: The ____ Waker
I wasn't expecting that motivational speech but thank you. I needed that. :)
I didn't expect the heart-felt speech about determination and pushing aside self-defeating thoughts. But it was appreciated and genuinely inspirational. 😊
Be sure to take care of yourself. I really enjoyed the video as well.
bro the part where you give the hype boost and hit that loading skip made my day, I used to feel like that playing dark souls. Good work lololol
The crazy thing about doing a manual superswim without pause buffering is that not only do you have to be fast enough to change direction at 30fps, *you can’t go over.* You have to do it at a near-perfect 30fps. If you do it too fast, you may end up getting polled after changing direction twice instead of once, and then your speed gets capped and you lose the superswim. The amount of control you need to have to maintain a consistent 30fps input is absolutely crazy.
I didn't know you were supposed to use the deku leaf on the moth lmfao i just always jump attacked it. Also how do you only have 50k subs i feel like ur videos are always popping up on my feed and theyre pretty high quality. Keep it up man!
Found this channel pretty recently from all the pikmin stuff, glad I checked out this video too. I resonate so much with the real talk at 40:39, this applies any time you want something bad enough. Any time you think you can't do something, first try 1,000 times and you'll find the truth.
You know, when I saw the title, I assumed you meant you were never going to use the Wind's Requiem to mess with the wind direction, or Ballad of the Gales to warp. Boy was I wrong.
Amazing there were just enough glitches to make it possible. Great video!
Pressing R in the boat gives King of Red Lions compliments and his rudder wags.

40:42 YEAH!!!!! MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH!!!! 41:30 Oh. I burst out laughing at that 🤣
This was really awesome and impressive. Good job Mr. A
This is why I love watching videos like this: it shows just how busted these games are... if you look hard enough ;)
That Undertale music literally fits everywhere, as does the Super Mario Odyssey music right after
Breaking news: Local islander refuses to use his sail to travel the world.
50:53
That's a good one. That's a DAMN good one son!
You could've just done storage to super swim to the submarine. With storage you turn around every frame automatically
I have a question. You said that Makar glitched out in the Wind Temple because your Master Sword reverted to full power. But once you got the Hookshot, since that Master Sword was at full power, couldn’t you have just saved and quit and left through the entrance? I don’t think beating Molgera gave you anything that you needed. That’s all, this was a great video, well done!
"Failing is easy, but you know what's not? F*ckin ledge clipping".
So basically super-swimming is Zelda's answer to the BLJ from Super Mario 64.
I do appreciate that the run covered All the dungeons but it is kind of funny that the answer to the challenge is just, do a speedrun.
"Now, we all know the hero of winds can save the world, but what about a normal boy?" Proceeds to break the fabric of reality at every oppurtunity
You know exactly, that another mad man is going to try this no wind challenge out, regardless how many warning signs you include.
When I first played Wind Waker as a kid I didn’t know how to use the sail so I actually sailed from island to island without it and it was absolutely painful.
I'm surprised you didn't make the joke about the iron boots, giving a big middle finger to the wind, and using the dev intended way of going out of your way NOT to use the wind.
48:52 when it floats down!
"Windwaker would become just Waker"
I don't think I'd stay awake at the speed that boat is moving xD
if you play the gamecube version, you never need to do an MSS since the moment you get to dragon roost you can do dry storage, which in turn lets you trivially do superswims (at the cost of requiring a flashing lights warning)
If you were playing the original version you could have done the super swim with the wind waker dive. Sadly it was patched in the HD version.
The games I played as a baby are really reducing grown men to quivering messes, who are put into an existential crisis that forces them to grapple with complex emotions for the first time in their lives.
It's always hard to do Zelda challenge runs because these glitches can be SO HARD to pull off.
