@@therepublic795yeah, i glad sega has stop working with AtGames company anymore and makes their real official sega genesis mini 1 and sega genesis mini 2 instead.
I payed 25 dollars for a used system for my sister. She doesn’t have cable or internet, and lives alone. Even though it has its issues with sound and terrible wireless controllers, this is still a decent product for someone who has nothing to play. She plays it every single day and loves it. Not for the hard core authentic gurus. This is for the casual, I’ll take what i can get market.
How could AtGames screw it up this badly. The Sega Genesis emulators on Retropie pull off the sound a whole lot better, so it shouldn't be that hard to properly emulate the orgibal soundchip. And who the hell uses infrared controllers in 2016? They could have easily went with rf, or even bluetooth.
Tell the truth, you only hate the tabletop version because it doesn't allow for SD card slot loading of stolen ROM's. Funny how the At Games portable handheld version of this is the same system on a chip (in all probability) and you soy boys love that but hate this version? You're all hypocrites.
@@robertmcmillan3638 You can EASILY mod the handheld version, and fix literally ALL of its issues…Of course people are gonna like the portable version better. With the console version, you’re stuck with this garbage.
@@BriefDark The handheld is going to be the least appetising way to play these games especially when some people went into meltdown over the sound issues. Can't escape the tiny screen and tiny speaker. How much better is that going to be mod or no mod? At least the table top console had two very good wired controllers and played well. It was just the sound issues that were against it and that only bothered some people not all.
@@bigbabatunde1218 You can connect the handheld to a TV. If you’re complaining about a “Tiny screen, and tiny speaker”, then it’s pretty obvious that those people shouldn’t buy the handheld version. Or, y’know, just connect it to the TV…
@@BriefDark Don't get me wrong, I'd snap all of this stuff up if and when it's on sale, I was making the example of the hypocrisy of some people who clearly favoured the handheld version over the wired console version even though it was in all probability the same system on a chip. They favoured the handheld because it had SD card side loading of whatever thieved game they wanted as most people ain't going to buy a handheld to play on their big screen TV as a 1st choice preference when there's the TV plug and play version available. No firmware update is ever going to fix the fundamental problems with whatever emulator a product is running if that's the problem. Trust me, I'm in my 40's and have been exposed to people's BS for years now. Never work with the public, you'll end up hating them. Out of interest, I do actually have a At Games Master System/ Game Gear game version of the handheld that plugs in to the TV. It's pretty good for what it cost even though it only has 30 games on it, but most play well even though there's a speed different between how they play on the handheld's screen and how they play on a CRT.
i never had a Genesis, but always wanted one. I think this is aimed at someone like me who doesn't know the audio/visual is slightly "off". i thought they sounded similar. i got one for $30, then bought a real controller. i've heard the compatibility is possibly due to the cartridge condition combined with the lesser hardware.
Sega should release an official version to compete with the MiniNES so that its not just an emulator, so the video is good and the sound is also good. It should also have as many games as possible, more than just the 40 on here. And if it doesn't include every sega game it should have the option to expand for more games via SD card or something.
+JO. O it's officially licensed so yup that's what they teamed with. the console isn't that bad. I happily paid 30 for mine. only actual problem is the cheap sound card, otherwise game play and video is the saaameee. way cheaper here then buying the original console and select few games I want. which I can't even find lol
Brandon Weilermann The portable console is also made by ATgames so its not quite the same. Yes it may have a license but its not made by Sega. For example the miniNES that will come out will be made by Nintendo themselves, and that's what I mean. Sega should themselves come out with an official version to compete with Nintendo. Maybe when Sega announces their own version it will have more than 30 games and the ability to expand for more games and Nintendo will raise the stakes and include more than 30 games on the miniNES.
0:25 Anyone else notice the Sonic 2 boxart they use is not original AND has a ESRB rating of teen?(T) I only noticed cause the original game doesnt even have a ESRB rating!!
Same here. Even for the Classic Sonic Games I'll also play the Remakes on the Smartphone, Tablet, and iPod products. And the Sonic CD Remake on the PC bought through Steam.
You see the tectoy logo? They have the sega license here in brazil and still sell a different mega drive, is this thing from this video but without the cartdrige slot for a lot more money, and they also have a portable version. I think the one they sell right now is even worse, its an emulator who also runs cellphone games and may not have blast processing to run regular games
A.J. here - Oh yeah, I'm well aware of Tectoy. I've only seen photos of the portable console you mentioned. The new one you mentioned is, well, news to me. Hehe. Got any pics? I wanna' see this piece of shit.
SEGAbits When i heard about this the first thing was "its the nomad? i want one" and then you can see for yourself: g1.globo.com/Noticias/Tecnologia/0,,MUL178351-6174,00-MEGA+DRIVE+VIRA+PORTATIL+COM+JOGOS.html . They couldnt even make it with the 6 buttons and also put that sticker with sonic & knuckles, what the fuck man. The sad thing is tec toy did good in the past. They translated games, the gamer were released at the same time in the rest of the world, they launched ads on tv, some others were made here, the dreamcast and games arrived in 9/9/99, now they only fuck up things.
Oh Jesus... My girlfriend spilled the beans and it turns out my mom got me this for Christmas. I want to tell her she wasted her money and to return it to save herself the cash, but it will break her heart for sure. Ugh.. Do I just sell it to some sucker on Craigslist? I'm conflicted.
A.J. here - That's a pickle for sure. Okay, here's a few options: A. Say, "Hey, thanks ma'! I know what I'm doing tomorrow!" Then put it aside. The next day, say that you tried turning it on and it won't work. Tell her you went online, did some troubleshooting and found that it's a common problem with that unit. "Okay, kiddo. I'm so sorry." She'll undoubtedly say, then tell her "Hey, it's totally cool. Do you think we can get this instead?" You can show her this link.... www.estarland.com/SegaGenesis.product.44572.html They clean and test all their hardware and it's a great starter package. B. If option 'A' sounds too difficult, the console isn't region-locked, so you could use it as a cheap and easy way to play imports until you can snag a Game Genie or mod your unit. That's not too bad really. C. These things still sell (obviously) either because some folks either want a cheap way to relive their youth, or giving their young ones a way to enjoy gaming without risk of destroying something expensive (Xbox, PlayStation, Wii), or they buy 'em as gifts and don't know any better. It's a reasonably simple re-sell. How, when, and to whom, I leave to you. X. Donation may be a possibility. I'm sure there are some kids out there whose families can't afford a game console and, if I remember correctly, most of those games are rated E-to-T. Sure, it may not look or sound as good as the real thing, but it's better than never having experienced them. Also, you could potentially make some kid very happy. There's plenty of options really. Kudos to your mom for trying. She sounds like a cool lady. Let me know what you end up doing. Happy holidays to you and yours, good sir!
I wonder.. would you be able to mod the system so that some of these issues are fixed? RGB mod for better AV, replace some of the capacitors and add shielding to minimize electrical interference? Possible mod the controllers with better quality parts? Sure you could just get a regular Sega Geneses, but this is a neat little system that takes little to no space and I just wonder if its possible.. I cant ve the only one who is wondering..
Kevin Arcade A.J. here - I'm not that tech savvy, so I can't say for sure. I think it would make for an interesting project though. If that's possible, could potentially rig it to operate with SEGA CD and/or 32X.
I was unfortunate to receive this for christmas of 2013. My Sister got it for me knowing how much I love Sega and Retro Games in general, but she wasn't aware of how bad the clone system was. Thankfully she didn't mind me selling this as she wasn't aware of how poorly-developed it was so I sold this on ebay and surprisingly I got a good amount for it.
SEGAbits But My Christmas wasn't a total bust XD I got some really great games, All three of which were on Sega Consoles. (Two for Dreamcast, one for Saturn.)
I had one of these for five minutes. Not only did the emulation suck but not all the buttons worked on the controllers. It went right back to the store. There are much better ways to get your Genesis fix.
I remember way back 2015 I begging my mom buy Sega Genesis portable since I want play Sonic on the go, couple later in May 2015 I was excited got Sega Genesis portable at first, than I didn't expecting Sega Genesis portable sound bad issue. In fact, AtGames should fixing sound issue as Model 1 audio in first place during 2016
Thanks for the review man! I almost buy that thing yesterday, I just descovered it existence so before buying (for the love of original games and consoles) I wanted to get some informations on. I can tell, 114$ are safe now ;)
joepassive true. I got this as a gift and I had fun with it. I coukd not tolerate the sonics because of the sound, but bean machine was ok and other games of mine. Plus this has altered beast and Golden axe.
Lol don't expect much from Chinese knock-off systems, most of them are garbage. People are really better off getting Sonics UGC or a real Genesis/Mega Drive.
@@Karnage233 I guess by that, you mean that it can't be a knock-off because it was officially licensed by Sega, which is true. But the quality of the console itself is Chinese knock-off level.
I guess this is where not being familiar with the original system is a bonus; I'm enjoying mine. It's fun to fiddle around with, and I guess I've lucked up with my seating position relative to the console because the IR hasn't been a problem, though I'd love a wired controller just cause I hate battery controllers in general. Need to keep my eye out for carts at pawn shops now...
Man u did well with that intense background music before Sonic came on lol Funny its the exact same screen as the portable one. I used to have the PS3 Megadrive collection. Think I'm gonna pick up a copy or a 360 one. Apparently there the way to go or of course get the og console. Nice vid m8!
The sad thing is they are releasing new versions of this every year, but it's worse this year because as an obvious kneejerk reaction to the mini NES, they are acting like it's a whole new console. It's getting way out of hand.
Your model 1 is a VA7. For a much better experience and much, much cleaner sound I would recommend an earlier model, preferrably one with "High Definition Graphics" printed on its bezel which is a great indicator that it's a pre-VA7.
Evaldas256 I own it. The retarded slowed sound is not noticable much. The bad guys die slower yelling but you cannot notice really. Or the slower footsteps, net, and car scenes.
Great video! I am glad you justified my original thoughts on not trusting a petty emulation system! I have a few things I was hoping you could answer for me. You see, I recently obtained a Sega Nomad. It's video quality is superb! I can see all the fine shading underneath Axel's perfect muscles, and the vibrancy of the colors is fantastic. Not to mention how well the bass and music in general is executed on SOR2 among many others. What I wanted to know was if the Nomad had Power Converter, 32X, or CD support, and if the quality difference I am seeing on my TV screen is real or just my imagination (I have played on a Genny 3 my whole life). Regardless of the answer, I still love my model 3, if anything, for just nostalgia. Oh, and one more thing. How does the quality of the Nomad hold up to Model 1 and 2 Genny's in terms of sound and video?
A.J. here - No worries, bro! Glad you dug the video. Sadly, the Nomad doesn't support the Power Base Converter, 32X or SEGA CD. From what I've read, it's compatible with the SEGA Activator, Team Play and Mega Mouse, but none of the add-on's. The Power Base Converter isn't a huge loss since the Game Gear has the Master Gear peripheral, allowing one the ability to play SMS cartridges on the go (does not support SEGA Card titles). From what I remember, since I once owned a Nomad, the quality when displayed on a television was comparable to a Model 2. Stereo output and true color/detail presentation. The Model 3 isn't all that bad, minus some slight compatibility issues and - if I remember correctly - mono output.
Thanks for the response and info! I still really like my Model 3 for its convenience and ascetic perks. I know you are correct regarding the mono output though, and I have heard some games don't work on it. I haven't had this experience personally yet, because all of my games play on it fine. I can't help but be a little bummed that I will have to buy ANOTHER Genesis just for 32X and CD games though. I will have to look out for a Master system converter for my Game Gear, because I want in on some of the Master System fun! One more question though, what is that song that plays at the very end? It sounds like it's from a Genesis game and I love the sound of it so much!
Tru Kuu A.J. here - Anytime, bro! As for the games, I've read that the Model 3 won't play Virtua Racing. Something to do with the SVP chip. Also, certain games won't function properly, like Gargoyles for example. Otherwise, I haven't come across anything else. Thankfully, Genesis units are fairly inexpensive. That being said, most sellers tend to include a Genesis whenever selling a SEGA CD, so you can kill two plumbers with one shell there. I'd check Amazon. They generally go for $85-$100 from good sellers. Worth checking out. The Master Converter for Game Gear is pretty sweet, but trying to read anything is a pain in the ass. SMS titles weren't designed to be viewed at that resolution. You may have a hard time playing Phantasy Star on the go, but Shinobi and After Burner look and play great! The track at the end is the Technocop theme. Technocop was the first game I reviewed for My Life with SEGA and, even though I fuckin' HATE the game, the music is kickass!
I have done some research, and the next Genesis I get I want to definitely be a model 1 "High Definition Graphic" model. Thanks for the advice on sellers, I will look into Amazon for sure. I will keep the game compatibility in mind and be sure to test games on my Nomad if it doesn't work on the model 3 right away. I will probably wait on the Genesis 1 and the Master Converter though, as at the moment my main focus is building up my Saturn and Dreamcast collections. Funny thing, most of the people in my area only did Nintendo stuff, but once I broke out X Men vs. Street Fighter, Die Hard Arcade, Super Robot Wars and more, the tune changed quickly lol. I had a friend ask me to get him a Genesis for Christmas, and had another friend become almost as interested in Segata Sanshiro as I am lol! Thanks for telling me the song, I just looked it up and it sounds pretty great! It is hard to imagine a game with this good of a soundtrack being bad.
some other things to point out is that the built-in version of E-SWAT is completely fucked up in terms of controls (when you get the ICE suit, moving right will make Officer Duke Oda crouch and walk right). Also, in terms of peripheral compatibility, while it works with most joysticks and controllers, the IR receiver for the Menacer won't read (making the gun incompatible), and the Konami Justifier for Lethal Enforcers won't register at all. The one thing I did find really weird is that even though it's one of the few games which are notorious for not working with the 6 button controller, Forgotten Worlds actually works with the console, even with a 6 button controller in use.
A.J. here - Oh, Jesus! Good to know for sure about the Menacer and Justifier, though it doesn't surprise me. My Menacer's busted and I've yet to snag another Justifier, so I couldn't test 'em for myself. Haven't tried Forgotten Worlds. I'll have to research that. Thanks for the info! :)
I just bought Saga Genesis AtGames yesterday at Pawnshop games bult in amazing games bring back good memories I just laughed at this person comment friend of mine work at Pawnshop he has one
is there any way to fix the sound? I tried opening the console and didn't see anything I could identify that could be modified to fix it as the was no slot to any usb or SD where you could load any exploit to fix it
@ShinyMoltres Point taken. Those newer models are definitely better in terms of sound and picture quality. I just wanted to get him started with video games and he's crazy about Sonic. It's Nintendo and Mario there after but at least he'll have gaming experience and know how to treat a more expensive gaming console.
Theres a new version of this that looks like a scaled down model 1. The sound and picture are much better. It uses the same controllers, but the signal is much more stable.
A.J. here - My pleasure, sir. There's plenty of classic wireless Genesis controllers available on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002ST8H/ref=sr_1_1_twi_1_olp?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1418228160&sr=1-1&keywords=genesis+wireless+controller
I love this video! Somebody finally agrees! By the way, do you think it's better of playing Genesis games on the actual thing or in a Sega Classic Collection like on PS3? I prefer the real hardware. NOT ALL GENNY GAMES WILL BE ON THE WII OR PS3.
Eduardo Lupercio A.J. here - Most people do on this one, thankfully. I mean, it's playable, but there's really no point. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure most of the SEGA titles on that machine are available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, and they look/sound virtually identical to the originals. In addition, you get the entire Phantasy Star series on Genesis (SMS original unlockable) as well as some other notable role-playing games, and arcade conversions (Altered Beast, Shinobi and Zaxxon). Personally, I'd much rather play on the original hardware because there are a lot of games that aren't available on that compilation, like Flashback: The Quest for Identity, Out of this World, Ghost Busters, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, General Chaos, Contra: Hard Corps, Castlevania: Bloodlines and Demolition Man. Ya' know, just to name a few. Also, the original hardware supports SEGA CD and 32X, whose libraries have yet to show up on any compilation as far as know. I want my Soul Star, Thunder Strike, Rise of the Dragon, Shadow Squadron, Star Wars Arcade, Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000, Virtua Racing Deluxe and more.
SEGAbits Just wanting another Sega fan opinion, do you prefer the Model 1 Genesis (Any version, HDG or not) or the 3/4 motherboard Sega Genesis in a model 2? I own a non-HDG model 1 but it has the same stuff as the good ones do, but is there something better on a 3/4 motherboard on a Genesis 2? One thing I know is that my current Genny uses a CXA1145 Sony encoder and a good Yamaha soundchip, which I think is 2612. But the 3/4 motherboard Genesis 2 uses a CXA1645 and a Yamaha soundchip that is as good as the 2612 from a model 1. Sure I know those good model 2s are hard to find but I actually found 2 of them for sale and just thinking if they are worth it or even better than my current Genny. Thanks.
A,J. here - To be perfectly honest, I can't really say. I haven't owned every single version, and I've rarely owned more than one at a single time. It's been a long while since I've owned a Model 2, so I can't make that comparison. I will say this, the Model 1 (non-HDG) unit sounds a better than CDX/Multi-Mega, in my opinion. It was especially obvious when I played Adventures of Batman & Robin. The tone had shifted significantly. I'm sure some listeners can't tell the difference, but I can.
I wish Radica/Sega Toys had made a Mega Drive console with a cartridge slot back when they were making those plug and plays. With an easy fix to the audio distortion, those things aren't bad at all. A revised board would have made for a great clone console. Instead we get... this...
i got a model 2 genesis at my local game store a couple years ago for 20, so i really had no need for these. plus almost all those games are already on the various sega compilations for ps3/ps2 etc. i actually did pick up the at games colecovision and i am very happy with it. I actually don't know how it compares but i don't really care since colecovision games are way harder to come buy then most systems games. Gamester81 did a review of it and he is one of the biggest colecovision fans and he said he liked it.
A.J. here - I feel the same about the ColecoVision Flashback as well. Admittedly, a few games either don't work properly or don't work at all, and it has similar sound issues. Like you said though, collecting for ColecoVision is a damn sight harder than SEGA. The sound isn't great, but it's not quite as bad as the Genesis unit. I reviewed it myself a bit ago since it had two SEGA games on there, which are two of my favorites. I felt it was decent and worth the cash.
It's as if you hate this thing or something. That's okay. I hate ALL of these flashback/emulator consoles. There's no shortage of real Sega hardware, no need to buy these things whatsoever! Even the model 3 genesis (which we didn't get here in PAL land) would probably be 1000 times better.
Please, consider the following. I did buy Sonic 3 for this console, off of Amazon, from a collector, for thirty dollars. Works, and sounds great. Low pitch in sound quality guaranteed, but great vibrant colors are a definitely for small television sets. And, the seller might even keep one of their saves. Mine was saved on Carnival Night zone, (whoopee.) Anyway, the console itself isn't that shitty after all, AGAIN, on small TVs. I recommend you purchase one, you'll regret a few things spoken in this video.
A.J. here - I've never owned one, so I can't say. From what I've read it's a better unit than the ATGames console in regards to A/V quality, though there are some issues. First off, it lacks the necessary components that make it compatible with the Power Base Converter, SEGA CD and 32X. Second, it has an issue with games that use external processors (i.e. Virtua Racing). However it's been said you can remove those obstacles with minimal modification, except for SEGA CD. On the plus side, the cartridge port is cut differently so it will accept Japanese carts. The Model 3 may not be optimal, but it's far more functional and it does look/sound better. I'd say you made a good purchase.
SEGAbits I was aware of its incompatibility with the SEGA CD and 32X and the Power Base Converter. I was just worried that I bought a crappy one as its a similar size to the AT Games one! I have been playing Sonic The Hedgehog and It sounds almost as good as a model one! So I guess there is no need to worry! Thanks!
SEGAbits With some research ive come to the conclusion that it has very similar audio and video quality to the earlier Models and a 95ish percent compatibility rate when compared with the Model 1 and 2, Unlike the AT Games which probably has an under 50 percent compatibility rate! So thanks again for reassuring my confidence in the model 3!
A.J. here - A wise move, good sir. Besides, for the same price, you an buy a Model 1 Genesis in decent condition with all the hook-ups, a controller, and a couple random games. Everything will look and sound as it should.
I'm WAY ahead of you good man. I have a Model 1 Genesis, as well as a model 2, a Japanese model 2 megadrive, a Retron 3, several genesis collections and downloaded genesis games on modern consoles.
A.J. here - No worries, good sir! As for the ATGames SD cart, I can't say. I didn't even know they made one. I'll certainly research that though. Thanks for the heads up! :)
I'm a huge Streets of Rage fan, I honestly thought no emulation was worse than SoR2 on the dreamcast collection, I was wrong. I bought this for my kids, they enjoy it for now haha.
I grew up with this exact emulator. Got it for Xmas in 2014. I have such a love/hate relationship with it, honestly. The controls are a tad bit glitchy on Columns, and my best guess as to why the soundtrack of Sonic 1 is down pitched is possibly to circumnavigate copyright infringement? Otherwise it boils down to garbage tier sound chips that don't quite match up with Genesis quality sound. Otherwise, it's a fabulous way to explore what the Sega Genesis might have felt like in the early 90s, as somebody who grew up in the 2000s and 2010s. It even includes Golden Axe. Although the sound emulation is trash, everything else is fire!
A.J. here - Well, there's no region lock-out, so you can play anything from the US, JP or EU. That's not a huge selling point since a Game Genie can bypass it more often than not. I've only come across a few games that won't work for the ATGames unit, like Technocop and Super Street Fighter II. I recently gave it to a friend of mine so I can't test it anymore.
+Patrick Ituriaga A.J. here - Blowing on cartridges doesn't work, bro. It's purely psychosomatic. I did pop it in my Model 1, making sure it wasn't the cartridge, and Technocop started right up. Took it out and re-inserted in the ATGames and....crickets.
+SEGAbits Wrong. Blowing in cartridges can put condensation or small bits of liquid onto tarnished pins which will sometimes bridge a connection to a clear point on the pin. Cleaning the cartridge pins is what you should be doing though.
I have a sega genesis plug n play that has just the controller and the av cords come out straight from the controller. And I can’t find this exact one anywhere online. If anyone has this or knows about this please tell me.
A.J. here - LOL! Thank you! Wanted to use the song, but I was affraid of copyright infringement. Some songs I feel are safe, like Reznor and Bassnectar. As long as I'm not making money off their shit and crediting them, it seems to be acceptable. With Marvin Gaye? I wasn't so sure. Still, I think it would have been a better use than when it was slapped on a Burger King commercial.
The only thing that kills this for me is the sound chip. If there was a way to mod it, I would've easily picked this up at my Bed Bath and Beyond (yes, they carry these things) with the 20% discount I get for my job
A.J. here - I bought mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond. LOL! I envy your job. I'm sure it beats mine. If the sound could be modified, it would be tolerable. So long as you're not interested in SEGA CD or 32X, it could be a decent unit.
SEGAbits Considering I have no 32X games of interest aside from Knuckles' Chaotix, and the only Sega CD games of interest are Keio Flying Squadron and Snatcher (both of which are absurdly expensive) as well as Sonic CD (when an upgraded version exists in the form of the XBLA and PSN releases), I don't have much of a reason to get them. Though I do worry about compatibility of some normal Genesis games (like a reproduction of Wily Wars and homebrews like Pier Solar)
Awww. 32X has Star Wars Arcade, Virtua Racing Deluxe, Virtua Fighter, Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 and Shadow Squadron. Hell, it has some fantastic ports of After Burner and Space Harrier. If you're interested in those titles on SEGA CD, I'd strongly suggest trying Soul Star, AH-3 Thunderstrike, Sol-Feace and Rise of the Dragon. I haven't come across any reviews stating the homebrews wouldn't work. I didn't have any at the time of this video's production, so I can't say for sure. Kinda' doubt Pier Solar would work though. Super Street Fighter II was a large capacity cartridge, and ATGames spat it back in my face.
Sonic 3 is ignored while locked onto S&K. Strangely enough, Sonic 2 & Knuckles, on the other hand, does work. Most genesis games I have seem to bring up the “NO WAY! / Blue Sphere” screen like normal
I don't like how the AtGames on gets the "SEEEEGAAAAA!" right, but gets everything else wrong.
Brandon Hollingsworth For some reason they didnt emulate the FM Synth right but the Digital Audio is good.
I glad that sega make the real official sega genesis mini 1 and sega genesis mini 2 without AtGames company make it this time.

The Z80 curse. You'd think one of these clone manufacturers would have gotten the Genny's sound right by now. Jeez...
A.J. here - You'd think. Is it really that hard to recreate? I don't get it.
I have an atgames console and I never play the games built in I use the actual cartridges it makes a world of difference
It doesn't play carts, but I absolutely love my Sega Genesis Mini (with the six-button controllers).
And sega genesis mini 2.
i never had a Genesis, but always wanted one.
And if it doesn't include every sega game it should have the option to expand for more games via SD card or something.
the portable handheld version has SD slot to add games.
Brandon Weilermann That's not an official version and is an emulator and I've heard the sound is not great.
It should also include Game Gear games as well.
I was considering this but, no way! Not after hearing the sound quality. Thanks for doing this video and saving me $40
A.J. here - My pleasure, brother.
Got this thing for two reasons; it's region free and it has games on it you will never see in the wild
0:25 Anyone else notice the Sonic 2 boxart they use is not original AND has a ESRB rating of teen?(T) I only noticed cause the original game doesnt even have a ESRB rating!!
ABlankNam3dKid What a great clone
Sounds like a hacked version that includes tails smoking in it.
I'll stick with Kega Fusion.
Plays all games, perfect sound, video, and controls, and so much more.
Same here. Even for the Classic Sonic Games I'll also play the Remakes on the Smartphone, Tablet, and iPod products. And the Sonic CD Remake on the PC bought through Steam.
Nah use Regen or Exodus. Perfect emulation.
I can't even tell the difference from fusion to an actual console.
2:43 That's not how it's supposed to sound
"You Loose" That's hilarious! The game must be aware of the D-Pad.
A.J. here - Great! It's fuckin' Skynet. LOL!
They translated games, the gamer were released at the same time in the rest of the world, they launched ads on tv, some others were made here, the dreamcast and games arrived in 9/9/99, now they only fuck up things.
whahah the sounds, its like the mega drive sound card is getting raped
Okay, here's a few options:
A. Do you think we can get this instead?" You can show her this link....
www.estarland.com/SegaGenesis.product.44572.html
They clean and test all their hardware and it's a great starter package.
A.J. here - Awww. Still, that's awfully sweet of her. How much did you snag?
SEGAbits Surprisely I got $47 for it...well ACTUALLY around $50 if you count the shipping they paid for. I put it up for bid at $35.
SEGAbits But My Christmas wasn't a total bust XD I got some really great games, All three of which were on Sega Consoles. (Two for Dreamcast, one for Saturn.)
A.J. here - Oooh! Which games?
SEGAbits For Dreamcast: Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Power Stone c: For Saturn I got Saturn Bomberman, Though it's the japanese import version.
In fact, AtGames should fixing sound issue as Model 1 audio in first place during 2016
Also, I thought the sound thing was a problem with my tv, but I *guess not* !
Thanks for the review man! I almost buy that thing yesterday, I just descovered it existence so before buying (for the love of original games and consoles) I wanted to get some informations on.
I can tell, 114$ are safe now ;)
if your genesis isnt working good, for 39 bucks is an ok replacement.
joepassive true. I got this as a gift and I had fun with it. I coukd not tolerate the sonics because of the sound, but bean machine was ok and other games of mine. Plus this has altered beast and Golden axe.
Lol don't expect much from Chinese knock-off systems, most of them are garbage. People are really better off getting Sonics UGC or a real Genesis/Mega Drive.
itsthatguy i mean you can find one right now for 5 bucks actually, some maniac is having a field day.
This isn’t a Chinese knockoff
@@Karnage233 I guess by that, you mean that it can't be a knock-off because it was officially licensed by Sega, which is true. But the quality of the console itself is Chinese knock-off level.
I guess this is where not being familiar with the original system is a bonus; I'm enjoying mine. It's fun to fiddle around with, and I guess I've lucked up with my seating position relative to the console because the IR hasn't been a problem, though I'd love a wired controller just cause I hate battery controllers in general. Need to keep my eye out for carts at pawn shops now...
"if your ears could puke, they would"
Thank you- I love how brutally honest you are in this review. Great video!
They couldn't even make the "You Lose" screen good. And here I was thinking of buying one of those.
Your model 1 is a VA7. For a much better experience and much, much cleaner sound I would recommend an earlier model, preferrably one with "High Definition Graphics" printed on its bezel which is a great indicator that it's a pre-VA7.
Damn, really wanted to hear what Technocop would've sounded like. Ain't nothing like the real thing indeed!
A.J. here - I know! Then again, I imagine sounding a lot like Comix Zone on the AtGames console....ASS!
Evaldas256 I own it. The retarded slowed sound is not noticable much. The bad guys die slower yelling but you cannot notice really. Or the slower footsteps, net, and car scenes.
bought this Sega Genesis AtGames Console at Pawnshop for 32 dollsrs bring back good memories some games I havent play in long time
Is it still good
Great video!
I bought one on sale in 2017 and didn't work when I plugged it in.
Well, I know that next time I visit that family with this Genesis' plug'n'play I'll bring my Model 1 Genesis.
That's a great idea!
Well I love this console for 1 reason and 1 reason only ITS THE CONSLE THAT INTRODUCED ME TO SONIC!
*WTF IS A SONIC!!?*
I have 1 of these and I find it fine, have no control issues and its great you can use your carts, blows the over prices mini classic Nintendo away
Mark Fitzgerald You must not have played a real Genesis then.
or even a genesis emulator on pc or various genesis collections on newer systems.
some other things to point out is that the built-in version of E-SWAT is completely fucked up in terms of controls (when you get the ICE suit, moving right will make Officer Duke Oda crouch and walk right).
I wonder how Marble Madness would sound in this ATgames box........
Thanks for the review. I was gonna get this, but after your review😀
I just bought Saga Genesis AtGames yesterday at Pawnshop games bult in amazing games bring back good memories I just laughed at this person comment friend of mine work at Pawnshop he has one
Glad I seen this kept me from spending my money on that.. Yeah might as well stick my OG Genesis
loose as a street walker in denang!!! lmfao!!!!
How are you recording the gameplay of the atgames Sega Genesis Flashback
is there any way to fix the sound? I tried opening the console and didn't see anything I could identify that could be modified to fix it as the was no slot to any usb or SD where you could load any exploit to fix it
I brought it for my 5 year old, keeps him entertained.
Thanks! I almost bought one of these today solely for the wireless controllers.
A.J. here - My pleasure, sir. There's plenty of classic wireless Genesis controllers available on Amazon.
www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002ST8H/ref=sr_1_1_twi_1_olp?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1418228160&sr=1-1&keywords=genesis+wireless+controller
so it's just the missing sound chip in that at games genesis?
and only the 40% of games compatibility
and it is only PAL
SEGAbits Exactly! There are 3rd party gems on the Genesis that will never be on any other modern console. Let it be like that for now on.
A.J. here - Damn straight, sir.
Instead we get... this...
How do you plug this model into the smart tv without the hdmi cable???
5:09 The dialogue describes everyone after hearing the sound on this thing.
All I did to fix the Audio is change my tv from surround sound audio to stereo sounded much better afterwards
Mine just simply stopped turning on. It doesn’t have the wireless controls though.
Dude, I love cannon. Nice review!
Now I'm asking myself this...
Which is worse?
Sonic 1 on this Cheap-Skate ATGames SEGA Genesis,
Or Sonic Genesis for GBA?
i got a model 2 genesis at my local game store a couple years ago for 20, so i really had no need for these. plus almost all those games are already on the various sega compilations for ps3/ps2 etc. i actually did pick up the at games colecovision and i am very happy with it.
I got the same thing, it is awesome!
Hj. It's compatible with everdrive sd cartridge?
Honestly, if used as a remix, the Green Hills theme from the cart would be pretty good
Can you not use carts with this?? It’s like it won’t stay put in there
So, should I get model 1 Sega genesis, model 2, or model 3?
Model 1.
TheLuigiBro model 1 or 2.
You should get 1 if you are an audiophile and the model 2 if you need to save shelf space and maybe money.
what cartridge will Work on my sega atgame gane Condoleezza
The audio quality sucks balls!! I havent played sega in years and the sound still sounded off to me.
So... I recently picked up a model 3 Sega Genesis, and this video makes me question my purchase! What are your thoughts on the model 3 SEGAbits?
A.J. here - I've never owned one, so I can't say.
Thanks!
A.J. here - Yeah, you're solid, bro. Anytime!
A.J. here - Anytime, captain! :)
I'm NEVER getting that awful Atgames console!
A.J. here - A wise move, good sir.
A.J. here - Wow! A serious collector. Nice! How's the Retron 3? I hear it's better than the AtGames console. How would it compare for you?
Well, It does play Mega Drive games from Japan, but It won't run Ecco: Tides of Time.
A.J. here - Huh? Really? That's so weird. Of all the games to have an issue with.
Thanks for steering me away. Does at games sd cart work well with a real Genesis?
A.J. here - No worries, good sir!
A.J. here - Hey, I will say this, it's better than NOT having a Genesis. It's not a bad starter for young ones either.
totally agree!
what is this a episode of The Wonder Years or Pete and Pete. lol
Terell Major A.J. here - I'll take that as a compliment since I dug those shows back in the day. Haha!
I am subscribing to you because of this video.

I found my atGames for $5 at a garage sale. It's still terrible at $5. Thankfully, I've got a model 1 and an X'Eye.
what game cartridge will work on my Sega genesis at game console
A.J. here - Well, there's no region lock-out, so you can play anything from the US, JP or EU. That's not a huge selling point since a Game Genie can bypass it more often than not. I've only come across a few games that won't work for the ATGames unit, like Technocop and Super Street Fighter II. I recently gave it to a friend of mine so I can't test it anymore.
I got myself one a year back and I was soooo confused...
Thank for the review I was going to get the same console with all 3 mortal kombat games, but u just saved me from total disappointing gameplay
+Julius Merriweather A.J. here - Another gamer saved. *fist-bump*
Did you blow on the technocop cartridge after it didn't work the 1st time.
Wonderful Marvin Gaye and Tami reference lol
A.J. here - LOL!
I wonder if there is an actually good clone.
Im glad I have the real thing
I'm afraid of what a game like Vectorman would sound like here.
The sound ain't it's strongest point but Vectorman is still very playable.
Not as smooth as the original Megadrive version but smooth enough.
How about changing the console region?
+Luis Peregrina A.J. here - From what I can tell, the ATGames unit doesn't have a region lock.
The 2010 and 2011 models have a NTSC/PAL switch I think
Now to get Sonic 3 & Knuckles & test it on it
Sonic 3 is ignored while locked onto S&K. Strangely enough, Sonic 2 & Knuckles, on the other hand, does work. Most genesis games I have seem to bring up the “NO WAY! / Blue Sphere” screen like normal
Got mine and the dang controller ports don't work!
I think that you can mod it to get the right sounds
I just saw this at dollar general. Thank my eldritch lords I didn't get it.
"You loose"
instead of having a screw in the cover, it would be better magnet cover, a cover that sticks with a magnet, is more solid and stays well.
At least I found my dad's model 2 Genesis but had to buy games
I bought one about 16 months ago and took it back and got my money.
How do you actually access the cartridge when u put it in
+Cierra Woods It bypasses the menu when a cartridge is in.
Do you know if a flash cart would work?
+dmbmaddog A.J. here - I've been told that it does accept flash carts, but I haven't tried it personally.
+SEGAbits thank you
If you have a flash cart why would you buy this piece of shit? Get a model 1 from ebay.
Flash cart will NOT on that. It is an emulator, not original hardware.
Stop hating this great console! Its really good!😡
edit 2022: Clearly you don't own a real Sega Genesis yet, younger Min3r
Bahahaha!!!! Maybe if your deaf! =D
MobileDecay lol, nah.. i just dont care about sound
Min3rl3g4nd Gaming 悪いチャンネル Well it's kinda bad since you can't play most of your favorites like super street fighter 2.
Demonanimator i dont play those games
if i said "i just dont care about sound" nowadays, you'd probably think im being held hostage
