Dude, basic public utility, that's what this series of your on the Monologue is. Thank you so much! I've always loved synth and this is my first. Coming from guitar it is quite daunting to face the knobs, but your videos are giding me through it with high flying colors. Korg should produce a tutorial series with you.
Marc I've shared your vides with EVERYONE I KNOW. You are the absolute best thing on UA-cam. These companies should hire you as a product design specialist
Greetings from the now formerly known as the future. Thanks for ALL of these delightful minilogue videos & for sharing your awesome self. You have beautiful hands. 2:47: You: "This is a usable character..." Me: (cue swooning sound:)
These videos are excellent - the most helpful thing I've watched in terms of exploring the potential of the MInilogue and learning how it functions. Thanks ++!
What this synth does to me is what it did to Marc. It makes me stop, and say "Wow...that sounds cool", and then I get lost. That's a great quality for a synth to have.
I figured out 2 solutions for the workaround for the Minilogue's lack of amp target and something you can mention in your Minilogue XD videos: Best Solution: The XD has 16 slots for user modulation EFX (as well as 8 slots for delay + 8 slots for reverb)! Using SDK I can create a multifunctional tremolo unit or download one from another developer. Other than User delay and user Reverb, the 4 efx types (user/mod/rev/dly) can be used at the same time (not sure if there is a routing configuration). Second Option: CV - There is OCS Volume assign for cv. Its per escalator but should be able to get them to modulate both osc amplitudes together w/sync (not sure about third osc).
I got the 2nd minilogue in Dallas and its quickly dominating all my tracks!! One of my favorite analogs ever! This and my king korg have stolen my soul. Picking up a Jd-can next Monday. Hope you do your own review.
I sat down in my studio last night to incorporate this synth into some of my tracks. And let me say this synth fits nicely into my style of music. But I ended up getting lost into the richness of its sound, and came up with 3 new ideas solely from playing with the synth. Okay, I need to stay focus on the objective, but it is such a pleasure to just listen to the sound of this thing. If you add some lush reverb, say from Valhalla Ubermod, it sounds amazing. I also found the Solina Chorus preset that made this synth sound very close to an Arp Solina String synth.
Would you by any chance remember where you got the Solina preset? I love that spacey sound. I even bought an old Technics K350 accompaniment synthesizer just because it has its own analog string patch that sounds a lot like it.
"There are so many synths in the past that were embraced for their character and i think that's what's gonna happen with this guy" and you were right Marc, many artists did it in those 2 years.
Wow, this thing is a monster! I'm looking to get into synthesis and watching your videos especially I'm finding that I'm drawn towards analog synthesis. If you're looking for ideas for videos you could do one comparing some of the new ones out there and how they might fit into someone's "arsenal" of synths based on their capabilities, especially for someone new to synthesis. Absolutely LOVE your channel Marc!!!
re the envelope click I am led to believe that the audio input is always on ie no keys need to be pressed in order to hear what is going into the input. with this in mind, the VCA needs to be at max sustain level all the time. so when a key is pressed it triggers the ADSR. the VCA then needs to quickly go to zero volts and then back up to max after the release. this will cause a popping or click sound (the now famous envelope click) if korg were to implement envelope triggering modes then the audio input will need to be triggered using the keyboard as is usual for an analogue synth (or sticky tape) or have it as one of the envelope modes. what are your thoughts on this? is this the cause of the envelope click? and do you think korg will add envelope modes in a future firmware update? does the click still occur if the audio input is disabled
to make it a bit clearer. VCA is always at full voltage, when a key is pressed the voltage goes to zero before the ADSR cycle, after release and voltage has returned to zero it then shoots back to maximum in order to let the sound from the audio input. all this within a fraction of a second. with the audio input always active like this it means no other envelope triggering modes are possible. if other triggering modes where added then the audio input will also need to be triggered in those other modes. hope that makes it a bit clearer
what the click is the sound partial sounding because the attack and decay are too fast for the sound or too slow so when it catches up hence when you move the attack decay it tunes to your taste actually that is how a analog synth works and click is the adjustment of adsr ....also if you adjusted each patch with adsr and saved it with no click maybe a thought
That's what I enjoy! You getting caught up in the cool sounds these synths make. Heck I sure do like listening.... I didn't see pt.1. What year did this synth come out?
Am I correct in assuming that there is no way to get cycling amp modulation on this synth - which is ridiculous. Cyclical amplitude is so important in synthesis. Why Korg left it out is beyond my comprehension. Or is that achieved in "shape". It appears you can get some tremolo on the square wave in OSC - it cuts out between peaks. Does that happen with the other OSC waveforms?

+Astro Spy I stand corrected. I was sure I'd seen somewhere that the audio input was always active that along with the envelope issues led me to that conclusion
overall this is one of the most FM sounding analog synths ive heard wich is refreshing if you like that type of sound, you would expect this to be a yamaha instead of a korg , coincidence they released a digital fm volca at the sametime or aknowledgement that classic sounding analogs dont fit that well into a modern mix?
Hi Marc, lovely synth so far. I was wondering whether it's possible to set the LFO to freerunning? It seems to retrigger every time you press a key, which is fine for some situations, but I like to have it freerunning at times as well (for nice PWM pads for example).
+Knasterblem It's the theme I wrote for this series, and recorded entirely with the Minilogue (except drums!). It can be found at soundcloud.com/recondite Thanks!
Great videos as always, Gainsy. If a noob synth player wanted to lay down 500 on a synth, should they get this or the ms-20 mini or bass station 2?? Or for that matter, any other for similar price?? Thanks a million
+Kintrap Obviously I'm not mark, but Marc helped me out 3 years ago when I was getting my first analog synth, and now owning 4 synths, I can honestly say this is turning into my favorite the last month I've had it. If you want that classic analog style, the ms-20 mini is great, but Korg has done something really amazingly unique here. Better to get in at the ground floor of something new homie!
I've got to say Marc, you're not making it easy for me to wait for my next payment so I can get one. So much potential in this machine. I managed to cool down from the namm hype but this is making it even worse :')

I was on the fence about my next synth and the final decision was when I saw you had done an extensive tutorial on this piece. Thanks!
It's hard to stop playing with it once you start...that's true about SOOOOO many things :) Love the enthusiasm - thanks for sharing!
Beautiful and lovely sounds esp when you get into LFO rate modulation... Lovely synth and another great overview - thanks :)

best demo ive seen yet!!!

Must buy after watching these videos! Amazing sounds 😃 running to the shop tomorrow hehe
Wow, I'm totally blown away after 7:15!
Recrr-pl.

from 6:59 to 7:49 was pure bliss...

Would it be possible to get a Marc Doty Synth Riffs 101 video?

those wave shape modulation pads sound fucking fantastic
Please please make a video to explain exactly how to recreate 14:15. Such a sweet sound!
great videos! thank you! coincidentally my minilogue arrived today
Your videos are awesome. Thanks!
Thank you!
a winner. when you get sounds out of it that are really emotional
Great video. Much appreciated.

That effect around 14 minutes is coolio!
Got an Angelo Badalamenti vibe out of that bit in the middle.
+Andrew Morales Thank you!
I love the sound at 13:35
I heard that you can do FM on this thing through the Cross Mod or VCO2 mixer, but how?
episode earlier dude
@@vojtav420 Thanks, but I already know now. I posted this at the time I didn't know much about synths

what´s that opening song? is there a full version somewhere?
+Knasterblem It's the theme I wrote for this series, and recorded entirely with the Minilogue (except drums!). It can be found at soundcloud.com/recondite

How do you control how much the EG effects the LFO?
+Ian Hoffman Well, one way would be through how you arrange the EG!
Can you please do something boogie funky with the synth?
Love at first sight
So many lush sounds.
can it do fm ?
"Oh my gosh listen to that".....can't wait until mine ships.

Intense Marc lol intensity
interesting fm sounds
4:36 "which just adds Buddy and Richness"
Int = intensity

+omsonic That's init
+Raphyr thank you
