The Internal LED. Research the construction of an Opto- Coupler and understand how it works. Basically it's an isolation circuit and there is an internal LED which under certain conditions emits a light impulse and allows voltage to flow through look it up, There is an Internal LED
Other simple way : just open internal LED with your multimeter with function LED and check continuity with another multimeter. Be carefull to use LED function (if you have) and not diode function otherwise it won't work (in my case btw maybe for other multimeters it will work)

Where is the LED ,which is glow and photo transistor will work...is it inside the optocoupler or outside in pcb.
U can not see light , it is inside IC or may not be visible wavelength
