Artfully done. Your sump guard came out looking wonderful, matching the original lines of the bike. I thought the one you had on there at first looked fine, but that second is truly a work of art.
As a mech engineer I take my hat off to this great engine protection. And, as someone else already commented, you make an excellent salesman for the NC750X. Thank you very much for sharing these vids and ride safe! Best regards from Austria (without the "al" :)), Hans
Wow this some art work right there! Being the same kinda do it all myself as you are, i was looking for an example to make one for my own NC, and then i thought, why not look at HondaNC750X Stuff channel for one, i know he made a nice one! And bam here it is! Thanks for the beautiful work, now lets find some aluminum!
Very clever. I don't know if you're retired, however if so, looking after the two Hondas plus your trips is a great way to occupy your days. Good hobby! Better than playing golf (the 19th hole is a killer)
That... my friend is an awesome job. It looks really good keeping the original cowling and the sense of satisfaction from making it yourself can't be matched. Don't feel bad about filing out some of the bolt holes, I had to do that on my very expensive and flash looking SW Motech plate so you're way in front of me LOL. Looks the ducks guts Adrian. Well done.
Hi mate excellent job done i think you down play your own abilities all the work you have done such as your radiator guard ect have all looked extreamly professional and you only paid a fraction of the cost and like me you have bragging rights when someone asks "oh were did you get that " well done .
I reckon that looks so much better than the Dakar ready versions that you can buy. I can't weld and I don't think a plywood version will do the job. I think this maybe the catalyst for buying a new shed toy. Cheers mate, great job.
Placepics - any excuse for a new shed toy should be grabbed. I didn’t know if I’d like welding when I started but it’s become a bit addictive - particularly aluminium welding. I’m UA-cam-taught so if I can do it anyone can.
Quality work and a great video .... Honda should be watching, you are the best type of salesman for this bike - yep just got one and your vids were a significant part of my decision making especially with regard to the ease of maintenance. (not sure mine will go off road but there are plenty of lanes in the Staffordshire moorlands and Derbyshire peak district ideally suited to this bike ) ride safe
Eric Hansen - not at all. Air flow is unrestricted from the front through to the back. As I live in Oz we regularly get 40c heat in summer and I’ve had no heat issues.
Great job and work for this part that saves the bike. The only thing I would do is change the bolts and put and use the Allen key ones so with one tool you can open it in case of emergency. Now you know that you have to make another one ? Yes for the 500X because she will like it
Gerardo Musano - bolts? I’ve contemplated that but from previous experience have found them a bugger to remove if they are even slightly damaged. So have stick with the standard hex head. Wendy’s bike. I’ll pass. She doesn’t ride where it’s likely to bottom out on a rut. 🤪
Don't really understand why Honda doesn't put this and a radiator guard on the 750 and 500 x. They could charge another 500 bucks and still be much cheaper than the Africa Twin. Very frustrating for those of us without your mechanical ability and tools . Beautiful work. I'm sure you could sell the old one for about 150.
There's so many things that at least some people see as mandatory. Hand guards, heated grips, center stand, skid plate, fender extender, crash bar, cooler guard, rack, back fender, seat. And I probably forgot some. Everyone probably has at least some of those, but probably not even the hand guards are universal. So what does Honda add? I think it's fine to bring the price down as much as they can while still delivering a quality bike.
banjo 48 - thanks mate. The Everlast is the “entry level” unit but does everything I’m likely to need. This is my first “quality” welder so I have no experience with any others.
That is a mighty fine job you did there mate! Looks good and Bob's your uncle! I am looking at making one for my new-to-me DCT this winter. Great vid, i will be making mine similar to your design, thanks again. :{p
Nice job Sir. Now it's made, why not hole saw an aperture directly below the sump drain plug, such that oil changes can be made with it in situ? Kind regards.
On Any Sundry Mule - reasonable suggestion but ... The oil drains out the side on an angle and would almost certainly get some on the pan. Also still have to remove it for the oil filter. ... sigh. Life is such a trial !
I have an SW-Motech skidplate.. The one you made looks better!.. funny how the SW motech one is mounted in exactly the same way with the same type of brackets that you used to mount your self-made skidplate. Looks really good!
what do you think the ribs are on the oil pan for? not for cooling oil? and now answer the question, if there is a lack of ventilation, how will this affect the engine?
exeter rider - I started with just the “desire”. UA-cam and your budget are your guides. I started with a cheap Chinese tig that did steel only. I didn’t know if I’d like it or use it much so buying cheap seemed right. But it became addictive !
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff Yes I can imagine. Like you I have a great set up for wood but I seem to almost NEED to break into the metal world. I'm going to have to get one I think.
exeter rider - starting with woodwork is an excellent grounding for metal work. Woodwork requires a very high degree of accuracy. Much more than metal work. If I had to recommend a welder it would be an inverter TIG type - ideally an ac/dc so you can weld aluminium (ac) as well as stainless, mild steel and even cast (dc). Tig is the most versatile for a hobby welder as it will weld very thin to quite thick material. And it’s pretty easy to get the hang of too.
Good morning i am very happy to see and learn from your movies i have been following you for a long time and i learned a lot thanks I have a question Is there a fuel filter for NC750 X ?? And if so how long do they change? Thank you
“Because I am a computer expert and work with computers every day, I am using a piece of paper....”. Genius. As another computer expert this cracked me up! 👏🏻🤣🤣🤣🤣. Another nice job. Did you weigh it before fitting? Interested in what it adds to the bike’s weight.
Sorry - no chance. I made it up as I went along. So no plans or even drawings. I modelled the mounting points off drawings of the SW Motech plate. Ali type? Don’t know.
Thank you for the reply. Just thought I'd ask. I do enjoy you videos. I also have a CB500x although it's at my home home in Thailand stuck in the USA right now and I just bought a NC700 here in Los Angeles to cure my Covid boredom. I liked the skid plate you made just the right coverage. So I guess I'll just have to build one similar to yours from scratch. Thanks, Scott
DS-Peti - thanks. Selling the old one is a nice thought but I’d be embarrassed to even give it away. Besides it’s no use without the custom brackets front and back.
