  • We picked up this bare 1965 Mustang Coupe shell in the summer of 2021. Original Arizona car (factory Blue Ext. With red Int!... Don't see that every day!). Building it to become the sister car to the 1965 Fastback. 5.0L 5 speed Swap. All brand new Grab a Trac Suspension. CSRP Big Spindle and brake kit! Frame Connectors with factory torque boxes installed! Should be a solid fun ride when all said an done!

    This is pretty cool. The coupe matches the fastback in color. Since they're not identical, that makes them fraternal twins lol

    Even at 10X or whatever LOL the impression is there about how much effort and elapsed time goes into it. Can't wait for the first carb fire start-up and to hear an exhaust!

    I guess it is just me but when I have a car that blown apart I take a bit of time to brush and paint the pieces to help make them last longer. Things like the clutch pedals made me cringe not being detailed and such or the front end before you installed stuff.

      You're right, definitely the correct thing to do and looking back I'd probably would've done that. At the time I was trying to bring this and the Comet on power tour 2021... then once that passed I kinds just took it easy. The interior will be detailed, the column is sitting there and so are the pedals. They'll come back out, was just placing them there for the time being (clear up some stuff) just need to find the correct red paint.

    Are you going to finish the Comet, soon? I'm in the process of building a '65 Ranchero gasser, myself. It will have a FE 390 big block for power.

    You've switched to CSRP from Leed. Just because of cost? Why not do discs in the back? What was all that fab work near the outer firewall? Was this a busted project or did you take it apart and find problems?

    • @Theoldcarchannel.
      @Theoldcarchannel.  2 роки тому +1

      No these parts came with the car. I did do a cost comparison and CSRP does come with spindles (around the 1k mark). So also a good deal, can't say anything else yet as I have yet to drive/ operated them.
      But no, we are still working with LEED on a few up coming projects. Great company, their products have been perfect and have never had a issue.
      Why not disc in the back? When I was assembling the car I was honestly rushing to try and get it done for power tour 2021. So throwing an axle assembly that I already had assembled under the car was the quickest alternative. Nothing wrong with rear drums, but I will say... I do love the 65 fastback with 4 wheel disc's!
      The fab work was installing torque boxes. 64-66 cars didn't come factory with front torque boxes (unless you have a Convertible), it wasn't till 67 that ford introduced 1 torque box (driver side) and then in 68 they came with torque boxes on both sides. So it's a cheap upgrade if you're handy to strengthen up the 65/66 coupes.

    How come you did not treat all that surface rust with a rust encapsulator and then put a fresh coat of paint over it?

    What where you doing to he rear quarter panel? at 13:51

    • @Theoldcarchannel.
      @Theoldcarchannel.  2 роки тому +2

      Rolling the quarter lip to create greater clearance, with the car being lowered and wider tires installed, I didn't want it to catch the lip and bend the quarter panel.

    i'd rather see the whole car being restored than see time lapse, but your making the video.
