Thanks for another video. I'm just a tradesman with no money trying to keep my Toyota going. I know it must be frustrating giving away such good info.... and youtube jerks you around so much. But imagine how many people you are really helping. have a great weekend
I have been changing my own oil and filter (as well as brakes, exhaust, heat shields, radiators, plugs, water pumps, brake lines, brake and transmission fluid flushes, timing chain or belts and more) on every car I have ever owned since the age of 17 when I actually got my first car in my own name. I am 64 now. Never, ever take your vehicle to any of these hack oil change shops. Do it yourself. You learn something, save some money, feel better about yourself and you can sleep better knowing it was done correctly.
I bought that Toyota oil funnel you use after seeing it on one of your videos a few years back. It fits my Rav4 perfectly. Quick oil change businesses are the worst.
I used to know a guy, he said he went to Walmart for oil changes, I started laughing. He said, "What's so funny?" I told him to search "Walmart oil change" on youtube.
I've never, and will never, patronize any quick oil change shop. I'm sure that there are many stories of all sorts of negligence from one of these types of shops that are similar to the one just shown.
Excellent job and tip. I found two condiment containers (one from BBQ Sauce, the other from Honey) that have the same threads as the coolant fill cap and the oil fill cap on my RAV4. After cleaning them out, I cut off the bottoms off and made them into funnels that will screw in perfectly. I use them when filling those fluids.
Some of those quick change places have a metal dispenser that looks like a fuel nozzle that has a gauge on top. They set the dial to however many quarts and then just pull the trigger to fill the engine.. The tip is metal and they likely just jammed that into the opening.
FYI During the years the Vibe and the Prizm were made at the joint GM Toyota venture, they were GM's most reliable cars. Also the Buick Regal, built in a plant that GM built using Toyota's manufacturing methods.
I took my mother in laws mitsubishi to Jiffy lube about 20 years ago and I remember they filled the cars oil with nozzles kind of like at a gas station. Maybe he/she stuffed that down instead of a funnel.
And when you get used to that you will find changing your own transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant yourself very easy. Filters... (And keep that MAF sensor clean too!). As much as possible do not let anyone touch your car. Hell I wont even valet. Sorry you cant have my keys.
It might be caused by the pneumatic oil dispenser, the nozzle is thin and metal, the body of the dispenser is heavy. Nozzle probably got stuck inside and "tech" pulled it out causing the bend.
I saw this before in many types of dispensers. The common one is like a gas station air hose on a reel, pumping from the drum and the end has a gauge to tell how many quarts dispensed
Pontiac Wibe wehicle. I love it! As citizens, it’s our OBLIGATION to vote and preferably for a candidate and party that wants America to be great for everyone like it used to be.
Horrible - that someone would push something into the oil filler hole to try to get the oil to flow faster ! Should not be done to a Pontiac Vibe - basically family to a Toyota Corolla ! Based on your recommendation, I also bought the funnel. It fits my 2000 Camry; but the design on my 2005 Sienna is different. To be honest, I always wonder what that metal restriction is inside the filler; I did not know it is just a thin piece of metal. It would have been very easy for me to bend the metal without knowing - even though I am a careful DIYer owner. So, I would not be too hard on the oil change place that made the mistake.
Valvoline Instant Oil Change has had a few miscues over the years with my vehicles. i.e losing engine cover bolts. But so has the Hyundai dealership. i.e Not tightening lug nuts and my front wheels almost falling off. Shops like Peter's where there is some personal accountability probably best.
@@slalomking In those days there were two Corolla assembly plants in North America. The NUMMI plant in Fremont made Corolla sedans, Vibes and Tacomas. We have a Vibe and Tacoma from that factory. The Cambridge plant made Corollas and the Matrix. Today there is one Corolla plant in Mississippi. The former NUMMI plant has fallen under the control of the evil Tesla empire. Plants in Cambridge make RAV4s, the Lexus NX and RX.
Hey, this happens to me in my 2013 Accord 4Cyl with the Earthdreams after I change my oil. My VTC actuator is bad, will the rattle after a drain and fill go away with a new unit, actuator and timing chain kit? I like to do my oil changes as it saves me money and risk of having it done improperly such as just having a drain and no oil added
Uh, isn't the oil fill problem a potentially "reoccurring" problem? I think I might have considered cutting the corner of the metal plate off so the problem would never have reoccured.
Strange most oil change places use a pump with standard cheapo oil which there is dial on it that you can set for how many litres or quarts you set that and then just squeeze the trigger its stops and the amount set but the wand on the end of those pumps are metal, so I have a feeling that the person just rammed the metal wand into the oil filler and set the pump pumped in the oil and was done. Myself if I was a customer and I started the engine I would have notice right away the noise and before i would have left not even drove my car and spoken with the manager about it but that said I never go to such places . I have seen sometimes these people working ther put the wrong oil filters on cars sure it screws on, but they top out and oil leaks or they over tighten the filter and it leaks or the next person has issues taking it off during the next oil change
You have to be choosy about what oil change place you go to just like what mechanic you go to. As to your second point, to vote for her, you’d have to have dementia 😂
Could one argue that it is a bit of a design flaw on the part of Toyota? I don’t want to sound like a heretic, but maybe this is a lesson for Toyota as well as crap “grease monkeys”? Just a thought.
It really doesn't matter. Yeah, because mechanics never do anything bad to engines. You can completely trust them unlike change places lol

Hey Peter. I use a 1qt. mobil 1 container with the bottom cut off. It screws right into the oil fill. Car is a 2006 Matrix 4WD with 225,000 miles.

There was a TSB for this 'issue'. My 06 Matrix has the same (worse when bought) The narrow lube gun nozzle really reeks havoc here.

Think they were using a preset mass oil gun system. Probably not funnel related. Negligent regardless. 🤔
