I appreciate this because the chain signal in the tips/tutorial window just says that it reads ahead to the next signal, but offers absolutely no explanation of why or in what situation you should want this.
This tutorial was great for me considering I want to keep my learning organic for factorio, and I feel like this has given me the basics without telling me what to do in my networks, so I can experiment myself. Much appreciated :)
This is the very opposite of what you just describe I use the 2 head sometimes i use both head end, never the one (maybe sometime when still early in a game, but never at the endgame) I use all carriages i could, and just plan my station accordingly
chain in, light out... You have made the simplest most effective tutorial I've ever seen on this factorio system... I might be able to make my rail system work tomorrow now and look nice to boot! Thanks very much!
Wonderful bite sized tutorial. I get really, really overwhelmed with these sorts of games and it's about the third time I'm attempting to launch a rocket in factorio. Trying to understand trains only to find 1h+ guides being labelled as "beginner" just blew my mind, was just too much. This will get me started! Many thanks.
Thank you so much! I was having the hardest of times and every time I thought I understood how it worked, I'd run into an issue that'd make me question my whole understanding of the system. The Chain-In Traffic-Out thing instantly simplified it.
Thank you for making this and especially for repeating that phrase "chain in, traffic light out". Just learning that is perfect for getting started and the exact information I was looking for
Just got back into factorial after a bail when I got to purple science for the first time. Needed a refresher on trains and this is the best explanation on the signals I’ve seen. Thank you! Great job man!
I've been playing Factorio for way too long to still be having trouble with trains (and circuits) but I do have trouble and this is the best clear and shortest basics for train signals video I have seen. I think it will help me keep my trains moving in game
Wow. 6 minutes long and I know how to make a working intersection. No need for 30min long videos, other youtubers could learn from you. Thanks a lot mate!
I watched a lot of tutorials but yours is the best if not you I will never know whats the diffrence between chains and rails and you showed this "method" when you were saying "chain, traffic" ect. it helped me A LOT so thank you for this amazing tutorial
I'm a bit surprised that the chain can detect when the piece of networo between it and the stoplight is occupied. I thought that didn't work and jave been designing my networks accordingly. This is great information. Thanks for making the video so concise!
My flat mates are now making fun of me hearing me keep saying "chain in traffic light out" at my screen. 10/10 would recommend. Easiest signal tutorial I've ever come across.
honestly? this is a better tutorial than the one you get in the game, it also is very easy to understand and now im confident i can make a train network thats more than one train at once.
This was excellent. My friend and I have been blundering around with trains in our playthrough and now I think this gives us a much better chance of having a network that runs smoothly!
sir thank you for putting it so simple idk why i could not wrap my head around this until you said "chain in traffic light out" then suddenly it clicked in my head
Well, I have an entire train system to rework as I'm pretty sure I did this perfectly backwards lmao. This clears up so much confusion I was having, you're the best dood
Finally!! Chain In - Traffic Light Out! I started playing on the Switch and have been loving this game but the train signals have been so confusing for me- this tutorial helped me finally get it, thank you so much! Also the last little bit of the video made me laugh pretty hard.
The first time i played Factorio i didnt really under stand trains and they just kept crashing into each other. I just recently came back to the game again because i got the itch and your video helped me out a lot on how trains work, Thank you!
Best basic train explanation ive seen, the other streamers make it to complex, to quickly. Also dont mix two sided trains with 1 sides trains, i was having a hard time figuring out wtf i was doing wrong..
There's nothing wrong with using double sided trains; while sure you lose the power efficiency by one cart, you save an immense amount of space and, depending on your situation, time and energy through lower travel times. With everything in Factorio their are several usages for any item, of which their dependent on other factors. You want a small train to just run from A -> B -> A/ then use a double. You're running a single nuclear power plant? Don't do korvax enrichment. You're running so many nuclear plants you can't count? Run korvax.
Loved it! The Chain in Traffic Out rule was such an "ahhhh" moment for me One feedback though, I would suggest changing "can" and "can't" with "able" or unable, or don't contract the negative, it was very hard to understand whether I should put the chain in the small track sections because the train CAN or CAN'T fit it
Thanks a lot! your tutorial was like 3rd one I've watched trying to figure out why my trains stuck, and they finally work! my factory will survive because of you :D
After all these years and too many embarrasing hours in factorio, I finally understand it. I've lived in factorio and just never fully understood trains enough to use them...yes seriously...
I think I’ve watched like 15 different videos on signals and this is the first I felt like i understood. I will try it out! I don’t want to copy other people’s designs, it is not fun that way. So having these basic rules laid down might help!
Wonderful.. SO EXTREMELY well explained.. Same principal for two directional trains coming to a crossing.. just that I would need to put chains and traffic lights on both sides using the rules you put out here..
If you do decide to do a "simple" double-headed train on a single track, you'll have to do the signals on both sides of the track or it'll get stuck at one of the train stops.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial. At first I tried to learn everything by myself. Got things done and there, but this tutorial helped me to polish the tracks and saving more spaces :D
Chain In, Traffic Light Out!!! These words will live with me until I die even if I stop playing Factorio. Thank you for such a great tutorial! Please can you do one for Circuits too? :)
Don't forget option 3. Option 3 is great for short distances. Also you can slot 2-X trains in your bus. What I do when I get oil is make a 2-4 train and then the track slides into the bus. You can just tunnel over the tracks in your bus and build beyond where it corners into your base (this looks fucking awesome btw when you have a train running down the center of your base). Then when that is in place I build a second line of track and a 2-1 train for heavy oil to be taken away to lube, and that heavy oil train acts as the heavy oil storage for the lube plant. This also separates this heavy oil from your advanced cracking, of which you usually have an excess. So this also takes a huge chunk out of your heavy oil allowing petrol and light oil to crack down with less managing. And again it looks awesome cos you got a pair of trains running up and down your bus
I love that you caught onto the big issue for guides for this game (and many games). Ridiculous hour long guides, no thanks... Please keep up the awesome work, I love speed guides.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it helped so much, just seeing someone else describe it in a timely manner really made it easy to learn. So cheers for that!
you're doing such a good job of calmly explaining this but for some reason I still find this so frustrating and confusing. nothing I do with the trains works how I expect it to, like I can't even get it to just go to one stop and come back. it took me over a half hour just to place the tracks in a way where it could do a loop to come back the other way lol, this is the worst part about this game
by far more easy to grasp an understanding of this whole ordeal for a simpleton like me , so if we want a two way track we have to mirror it on the other side right?
Good video. Certain points: * Most locomotives doesn't make the trains faster max speed, but rather faster accelerations, leading to faster average max speed * Using trains longer than your average rail signal length is not directly an issue. It will just cause the previous block to also be taken. The issues start if it's too short between intersections. * Signals on corners can be rotated to touch the wanted rail. But as you said, it's not recommended :) The part from 4:00 on is super important: If a train can't fit, use a chain. If it can fit, then rail is OK.
This exactly! The basic principles without controlling your play style.
Echoing this here. This was a great start. Many thanks to the creator of this guide.
This is the very opposite of what you just describe
I use the 2 head sometimes i use both head end, never the one (maybe sometime when still early in a game, but never at the endgame)
I use all carriages i could, and just plan my station accordingly
This was a much better basics tutorial than most other videos. Very clear and practical with lots of examples. Thanks!
Thanks bro
Chain in, signal out.. Clear, concise, direct. Thanks for that. I've got close to 600+ hours in the game and signals still give me the run around lol
Wow. A 10 minute "basics" video that actually teaches you the basics in (less than) 10 minutes.
Thank you!
I am now repeating "chain in, rail out" as I finally go about fixing my entire locomotives network properly and it WORKS. I cannot thank you enough
Choo choo!

Best factorio train tutorial ever. So simple. Thanks for time saving !
Thanks buddy
I felt like such an idiot because I couldn't wrap my head around this. Thank you so much for the ELI5!
It's been 2 years now where are you now ma friend
he died in a train accident 😪
Thank you for making this and especially for repeating that phrase "chain in, traffic light out". Just learning that is perfect for getting started and the exact information I was looking for
Turned on this video, booted up a sandbox rail world, and now I think I'm ready to put trains in my main bases! Great stuff 👍
Just got back into factorial after a bail when I got to purple science for the first time. Needed a refresher on trains and this is the best explanation on the signals I’ve seen. Thank you! Great job man!
Chain in. Traffic light out. trains made easy with 1 golden rule, Thanks SCHEMATIC!
Oh jeez this signals thing got me so confused. I love your chain in, traffic light out mantra. Its so helpful to figure this out!
Thank you for being straightforward and on point. Now I can go back to my trains!
I've been playing Factorio for way too long to still be having trouble with trains (and circuits) but I do have trouble and this is the best clear and shortest basics for train signals video I have seen. I think it will help me keep my trains moving in game
You droppee one of the best tutorial for beginner factorio produced... On a difficult topic for beginner. And you MIA for 2 years damm🥲
Wow. 6 minutes long and I know how to make a working intersection. No need for 30min long videos, other youtubers could learn from you. Thanks a lot mate!
Finally someone explains this where I can understand it. Now if I can just find a tutorial for train gates so don't keep getting ran over.
after about 200 hours i have finnaly figured it out thanks to you. chain in, traffic light out, got it.
You are the 'excellent teacher' kind of character.

Thank you! I wasn't really willing to wait for 18 minutes to just learn one simple thing. Amazing video, thank you so so much
god bless you! I was away to delete the game but I found the and now the factory will GROW!
This tutorial is the only one that makes sense for a beginner. This helped me to begin to understand and use trains.
My flat mates are now making fun of me hearing me keep saying "chain in traffic light out" at my screen. 10/10 would recommend. Easiest signal tutorial I've ever come across.

just stop the game for a long time come back being lost with signal looking for this tutorial and man good job ! still usefull

This is the best signalling tutorial on the internet. BRILLIANT!
That "chain in, Traffic out" phrase really open my mind after wreaking my brain on others longer tutorial.
Yup. It makes a huge difference how someone passes his knowledge. You can know so much, but if nobody understands what you know, its not as valuable.
The first time i played Factorio i didnt really under stand trains and they just kept crashing into each other. I just recently came back to the game again because i got the itch and your video helped me out a lot on how trains work, Thank you!
Thanks a lot! After several long, boring and incomprehensible guides, you explained everything for me quickly, clearly, and simply!
Best tutorial I've seen in this subject, much easier to comprehend, so simple, thank you!
Bruh, you explained it so well and simple. Thank you. These other videos about it were terrible, lol.
Thank god. The hour long tutorials are GREAT. But this just gives the spark notes to make sure I took at the info in correctly.
Best basic train explanation ive seen, the other streamers make it to complex, to quickly. Also dont mix two sided trains with 1 sides trains, i was having a hard time figuring out wtf i was doing wrong..
FIINALLY A REAL TUTORIAL FOR A DUMBSTER LIKE ME TO UNDERSTAND TRAIN SIGNALS, IM SO HAPPY

Very happy with thr tutorial. And chain in, traffic out helped me remember lol. Know that's a phrase imma be using forever.

Late to the party, but this was hands down the best explanation for signals.
Man, I've seen more than diffrent 6 videos, and this is the best one. Good job.
Thanks buddy, just trying to make it easy

Very good and simple explained Guide on how this Train/Chain Signal work! Thank you very much!
Best explanation and demonstration I found so far. Awesome!
If you do decide to do a "simple" double-headed train on a single track, you'll have to do the signals on both sides of the track or it'll get stuck at one of the train stops.
But the whole reason to use the simple double headed train on a single track is that you don’t need to use signals…
@@cellularmitosis2 What happens if it intersects with another track?
Watch so many vids, all gave me more question and they were over 30 min long, watched your vid, done, got it and it worksssss!
litterally summed it all up for me gave me everything i was confused about
This made a lot sense, and I’ve struggled with train for far too long, so I preemptively subbed, hopefully this fixed my train woes. Thank you!
That chain in light out example was better than the 10 other videos I watched that left me confused
Thanks a lot for the tutorial. At first I tried to learn everything by myself. Got things done and there, but this tutorial helped me to polish the tracks and saving more spaces :D

you can rotate signals....1000 hours and still learning hahaha thanks
EXCELLENT. The other videos being 1 hour long is ridiculous... They present way to much information that is truly not important.
Oh! So that's how those work. Cool!
Next problem: circuit networking 😬😂
Great tutorial, thanks a bunch!
