    Almost an impossible repair with typical home lab equipment - these SMDs must stop becoming smaller, else will will soon need to be replacing the entire PCB in case of failures! Good job Peter, thank you. 73, Kostas.

    Thank-you for these excellent videos. A friends IC-7100 had this fault, luckily the low value resistors and the protection diodes were ok, so a new transistor and the radio was good to go. Another great repair Peter. Thought I was the only person that stacked SMD resistors to make up the value needed. Been a few years since I have had to do it but it works perfectly fine. I finally broke down and purchased SMD resistor and capacitor kits for pretty much all the different case sizes. The sad thing is I probably have a few hundred thousand SMD components and could probably pick them all up with one hand. Man those 0201's are tiny. Thank God for microscopes. :)

    I have to guess this is the same 7100 that was in a bit ago due to overvolt? if so got to suspect that overvolt did more damage then thought, maybe not outright killed parts, but weaken them down and over x amount of time they just go. if that is the case it would not shock me to see that 7100 again on txrx bench.

      The last digit on the SMD resistor is the multiplier / number of zeros. 100 = 10 ohms, 101 = 100 ohms, 102 = 1,000 ohms.....

    • @jastervoid
      @jastervoid 7 років тому

      Help/I/am/being/eaten/by/aliens Thatsnottrue It's a 3 digit coding - the third digit is the exponent. So the resistor marked 100 is 10x10^0 = 10 ohms. Similarly, you can see the 33 ohm is marked 330.

    Peter, did you choose larger resistors on purpose? Larger means higher power (mw) so should survive similar high signal input event again without "toasting".

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  7 років тому

      Well may be but the coil would suffer again, so it make no real sense. So it was simply because I did not have the right size. 73

    • @davecc0000
      @davecc0000 7 років тому

      Maybe not. If 4.7 resistor didn't toast then maybe input signal would get clamped and limit current reaching the coil?

  • @uN1Qu3DZ

    @ 48:20, top left above green coil, there are two resistors. 330 and 47. The 4-something resistor also looks burnt. That circuit is for another band right?
    Also for the two open resistors the dark spot in the middle was a dead giveaway that they were blown. But again, i am young, have sharp vision and a big 1080p TV to watch these on. :) I do enjoy the detail that you go to in your videos. Regards.
