Peace Lily: 🌺Care & Propagation Parts 1 & 2 Combined🌿

- This is my first video, which I had to divide into two parts, but UA-cam later allowed me to create longer videos, so this video is Parts 1 & 2 combined.
A few UA-cam friends had mentioned that the audio of my videos were too soft, so I researched UA-cam to correct the audio, and it was a learning experience.
This is the complete version of my Peace Lily Care & Propagation Video.
I will demonstrate by re-potting a Peace Lily, Propagate another Peace Lily by division, refresh the soil of another Peace Lily, and over-pot a small Peace Lily to encourage it to grow large enough to display in the house.
Peace Lilies are good indoor house plants that can tolerate low light, but they thrive in bright indirect light. Peace Lilies are forgiving as far as watering. Peace Lilies are rated among the best plant air-purifiers by NASA Scientists.

My peace lilies are doing well - these peace lilies are thriving, and I was going to make a video of me cleaning it up before taking it back into the house, as I rotate the one in the out to outside.
I think I have the small variety too. I was thinking of adjusting my soil recipe to hold onto moisture longer, because the smaller pots require more waterings.

I just discovered your UA-cam. I have a couple of peace lilies and want to repot one of them. I like the way you explain what you are doing for and to the plants and also about your grandchildren. Yes planting and watching plants grow is really therapeutic and helps one appreciate plant life. I am in Australia and we are into spring but the heat is like summer so l need to make sure my plants are not in direct sun. Thank you for your informative video.

You are an excellent plant instructor but more importantly, you are a grandfather whom the grandchildren will remember as the person who taught them the precious things in life. The children growing up in this tech age are missing nature, other people, and the wonder of their own imagination. Few children in my neighborhood are outdoors playing. It’s so sad.

Are you in Hawaii! Teens are much more difficult than I remember being. I don't know how my parents and grandparents were so calm.
My grandson rebelled completely and rather lay next to his girlfriend all day texting on their phones. They don't even talk to each other. Her parents and aunts are treating us as in-laws... something I need to get used to.
I had a rough year with these grandkids, and only recently gotten back on UA-cam for therapy.
The house is full of grandkids, and a psuedo-granddaughter in-law, as we wait for Douglas to hit land north of the island. They eat a lot, but I love having them here.
Take care in these challenging times. Be safe and keep healthy

Enjoying your videos very much! So relaxing and full of great information. I think its wonderful you propagate and share with friends. My favorite to propagate are spider plant and silver photos. They are both so easy! I have two avocado pits sitting in water I am trying to be patient waiting on the roots. Mahalo nui loa for sharing your videos and please keep it up :)
I love propagating spider plants, and I have been successful propagating silver pothos, but silver pothos grows really slow. Mine rooted easy, but it didn't send out any shoots. It took my heart leaf philodendron months before it looks really nice.
I'm currently trying to keep an avocado tree alive. It's about three foot tall, and I know it's winter (in Hawaii) and the tree may be dormant, but I have high hopes for avocados for guacamole soon, if not in the hear future.

Hi Gerald! Thank you for a great video on Peace Lily care and propagation! I was just noticing that my one and only PeaceLily is getting so big and is in a pretty small pot and that I should repot it pretty soon. I'm hoping that when I repot it I will be able to separate it into 2 plants. That would be nice! Your grandsons do such a great job helping you. It's nice you have family time with them. I just watched your part 2 video on Peace Lily, but couldn't find your part 1 video, just this one. You have so many beautiful Peace Lilies. I wish I had room for that many!

I was just fertilizing my peace lilies outside and will let them rest outside for a couple of days. They look like they need trimming, and I hope that I can turn that into a video, but this week had been very pusy at work and at home.
It's fun to propagate plants. It is a sense of accomplishment, and in return, the plants purify our air:)

Interesting that you placed the small plant into such a much larger pot! Ummm, sadly kids today only want to talk on the phone and sadly watch videos. I had a twin growing up and we spent most of our time together. She passed away at 44. Nurse by profession. Me Occupational Therapy Asst. We shared a love of plants as well as the medical field. She loved peace Lilly’s as well.

I didn't like these plants when I first saw them at the malls, but I discovered that they are good natural air purifiers and they grow well in low light. The ease of care and the knowledge that they are helping to make my in door air cleaner makes me feel satisfied. I hope you enjoy your plants as much as I enjoy most of mine... some of my plants stress me out 😜

Hi Gerald, nice video. I love the Peace Lily. I place banana peels at the base of the plant to keep them flowering. I cut the ends. I make a trench with my finger around the perimeter of the plant, bury the peel about 1" deep and cover it with dirt. I save the peels by freezing them on a zip lock bag for future use. When using the frozen peels, I cut them in small pieces since they will be too stiff to bend. I then quickly run them thru warm water to take the chill out before placing them in the plant. The potassium from the banana peel helps the plant produce more blooms.

I was just looking a a bunch of bananas that were wasted. I didn't want to just throw them away, I was thinking of how to "give" them to my plants. I thought of making compost... I have a compost pile that I started a few years back, but I've been neglecting lately.
I love the peace lily for its big green leaves. I haven't developed a fondness for the flowers yet, but probably because there hasn't been many.
My peace lily plants have been growing a lot these past few months. I may need to thin the leaves. I don't think I'll be dividing any soon because I don't have the space for more plants.

@@PlantsaremyTherapy Nice to hear from you, my friend. You certainly can add the banana peels to the compost. You can also let the peels dry out, cut them into small pieces and shred them on the blender until you get a powdery form, so you can sprinkle it on the soil. You can also put them on the blender with some water and use the liquid to fertilize. Bananas are a great source of potassium for the plants.
I wonder why you do not like their flowers. I think they are beautiful!!
