Wilko Johnson sent me here, why you ask....well, Wilko was a honest sort of man who without attempting to became a legend. Wilko consistently stated Mick Green as his mentor his inspiration . Another guitar player mentioned Mick Green also, that would be Pete Townsend, yes THAT Pete. Wilko refined what he learned from Mick. Wilko always went to extremes to make it known about Mick, this is a main reason, one of the main reasons, why I think Wilko is a legend , a legend to friendship and loyalty,, oh yeah he was a genius on the guitar , a Telecaster of course
A phenomenal band! Up there with Led Zep, ZZ Topp and The Who - The Pirates should have been as big as those other power trios. You might disagree (feel free) but maybe Frank the drummer wasn’t quite up with Keith and Bonzo. But as for raw power and sheer rock, The Pirates were the best!
Mick Green taught so many of the guitarist's of his time how to really play a guitar, I saw him play 10 times & Clapton about 8 times, so I know the difference, and I played bass guitar for a famous group of the time & met them personally, but both were fantastic. Memories for life!
+pawnsacrifice1 Mick Green kicks ass like no other axe man i know(or knew)Funnily enough ,many people think Mick played with Kidd on "Shakin` all over"It was actually Joe Moretti session player who brilliantly played it.He later went to South Africa where he died a couple of years ago.He was the leading guitar session player over there.Wilko has a similar style to Mick but doesn`t give it the b**ls Mick does.R.I.P.Mick,Joe and stay with us for a bit yet Wilko.
The band I saw the most in the 70s..the gigs were so intense..just brilliant! .great blokes too..I was a proper punk back in 78 and this great band had an 80% punk audience coz they could cut it..seriously play up against any of the new bands and we loved it..they even played top bill at reading in 78..that was a heck of a thing for a band with its roots in the early 60s..so yeah this band are my heroes!
So raw and quite rare. I recently read that The Midnight Special and Rockolast are releasing some shows that have not been seen fir decades. As long before MTV there they were with their weekend rock shows
How everything is perfectly divided between vocal and guitar. The rhythm section is great. I'm going crazy... Since 1979, when I first heard Mick Green ! Russia is thrilled... and for a long time...
Mick Green had a touch of magic about him, he could switch it and drop back and then explode, incredible. I was lucky to meet him late on, totally unassuming nice bloke.
A really good old Rockpalace/"Rockpalast" Concert from 1979! What a splendid Guitarplayer! We love The Pirates! This old great Fender Telecaster Electricguitar rocks wonderful! Special greetings from Berlin-Kreuzberg/West-Germany.
@admanphoto On Wilco's web site interview, he says he tried to copy Mick, and thought he had. Then once Wilco had perfected his style, he realized he hadn't. By then Wilco had his own unique style.
This band never fail to deliver. Hilarious timing on the caption, 3 minutes in! Like, how many times have you heard him sing "Johnny B. Goode" when it fades on? Great stuff though.
I saw The Pirates live in late December 1979 at The Birmingham Odeon, when they supported AC/DC on the extended leg of the Highway to Hell Tour, where Def Leppard has been support for the original dates. Sadly, the drums were so loud that they drowned out the sound of the rest of the band.
try a band called charlie croker and the providers on you tube a punky rnb outfit from the 90's, cab driver, the croker , can't get enough and others are excellent
I just got listen to that "amazing version" and I don't like it. Very amateurish, no ball's and poor audio quality, sorry! No one can equal this Pirates version: strong voice, straight bass and unique guitar and drum playing. Pure energy, just my opinium.
I saw JK and The Pirates during the early Sixties at the old Picardy cinema in Harlesden. Another cinema in Luton and The California on the edge of Dunstable Downs and not forgetting an amazing night at The Boat House Kew. Johnny Kidd had an amazing voice and his stage presentation was the best of any uk singer. I know that a great deal of The Pirates presentation was a result of Freddie s tuition. He was also a great song writer, given the right support and encouragement, he would probably been Britain's number one Rock writer.
Mick Green was a legend 🤘🤘🤘
Oui une légende, oui un très grand guitariste. On ne peut pas l oublié.

Met this lot after a gig in Folkestone 77, absolute gents...and what a show!
Сильнейшие рокеры суперская группа рок 🎸 навсегда здорово 👍
One of, if not the best live versions where you can hear the lyrics and not garbled rubbish

Level 42 had a phenomenal bass player named Mark King

You answered the question i just had about how many punx were at these gigs, they are going as hard as early Damned or any other at that time
RIP Mick, the world has lost a Great guitarist
Saw them at the Greyhound Fulham Palace Road, I believe they recorded Out of their Skulls there, excellent
2:40 - Mick Green was a genius. Great playing and great tone.
Certainly up there with The Who, Led Zep and ZZ Topp as a power trio - the best of the best!!
Don't think he ever realised how good he was!
The Big Three from liverpool were in the same class as this great band ,The Pirates.
So raw and quite rare.
I recently read that The Midnight Special and Rockolast are releasing some shows that have not been seen fir decades. As long before MTV there they were with their weekend rock shows
Excellent and thank you.🇬🇧
How everything is perfectly divided between vocal and guitar. The rhythm section is great. I'm going crazy... Since 1979, when I first heard Mick Green ! Russia is thrilled... and for a long time...
Micky Green - Master of The Telecaster!!
This is the REAL rock'n roll! GREAT BAND!
Aren't they magnificent ! Mick giving it 100% is a pleasure to behold.
Mick Green had a touch of magic about him, he could switch it and drop back and then explode, incredible. I was lucky to meet him late on, totally unassuming nice bloke.

Britta Rothe - Telecaster Broadcaster...
l saw them a few times right at the height of punk in the UK... They seemed to fit in perfectly.
Green used to play lead and rythm at the same time, shit knows how but the mman was awesome. I saw them at Sheffield and Torquat in '79. Brilliant!!!
Mick said he played the chords loudly and while they rang fiddled about.
Whow, what a powerful Rock n´Roll Band! We love it! The Pirates, absolutely great Musicians!
I bought The Skull Wars 1978, and it hit like the hammer. This sounds still damned good.
Nobody wears a tele like Mick. R.I.P. a one off.
Now thats what you call a Rock and Roll band.POW.
simply the best ever.....long live the Pirates.
Yeah! Rock and Roll!
Best sound, best rock'n'roll!
Saw these guys around the same time as this at the Music machine Camden and I guarantee they were the real deal...
Best cover

wish I’d seen them in late 1970s
"Best sound, best rock'n'roll!"

Louisiana and Essex, who can tell the difference? Not me!
this knocks the J Hendrix version into a cocked hat!
More energy than a nuclear power station!
I think there was a lot of cocaine going on lol
Some people say: "Clapton is God". I've always believed that if God wanted to play guitar, he'd want to play like Mick Green.
Naw. The Devil more likely! 😎😎😎😎
This video or for that matter any video of this band doesn't do them justice. The live shows were Incredible...
Sounds like a Bermondsey boy? I was too busy on Clash and Ruts back then. forgot about these guys, Where psycobilly was born.
Good band, a lot better than many of the punk bands, but lacking the right image for the times.
3000 miles per hour.
It was called pub rock for a very good reason.
Go.
LOL...Mick and Wilko - when too much pharmaceutical grade speed was barely enough

Is this the same band as Johnny Kid and the pirate's?
Johnny passed away sadly in a car accident, but yes these are the Pirates.
Does anyone have the lyrics?
jep
Not so bad sign.... ?

Japanese Futoshi Abe followed Mick Green.
Really good but my favourite is the Feelgood's live version.
Great band all of em but well looking at the drummer...well now we know who ate all the pies!!!

What Rockers. The drummer is playing like he’s waiting for his pudding.
