Sony needs to take a chill and stop releasing things left right and center. Every few months i am contemplating buying a new camera.
@@igugulethu7 it was supposed to be more of a joke, it’s very hard to buy all of them. It’s that feeling I get makes me want one lol
Foreal 😆
@@joshuaaruiz What are you currently shooting on?
@@igugulethu7 I have learned a lot from using sony, I think everyone's first camera is their favourite. what is your favourite camera?
@@Thebreakdownshow1 Sony a77M2
I agree. This camera is a game changer specially for APS-C users and creators. I'm glad Sony came out with this camera. This will definitely replace my A6300 as my main camera. I just put an order yesterday and I can't wait to have it in hand. Thanks Peter...
Hey man did you get your fx-30. I also have an a6400 and I am kinda in between upgrading into fullframe or fx30. Can you share your experience with your fx30 ? Thanx 🙏
You added the undone-lazy-detail-shots-second-angle. Nice! 🤓👍
Heck yes! Gotta take the tips from the pros!
As a Sony ZV-1 camera owner, who didn’t like the compromises in the ZV-E10, I love this FX30. I can’t wait to order it. Thanks, Peter!
As a hobbyist wildlife photographer, and someone just getting into shooting video, this is exciting and a relatively affordable cinema camera. I have been learning on my ZV-E10 but this is a step up and a good upgrade to pro like specs. I have a A9ii with the 200-600, the A9ii is great stills camera but does not have great video specs. Im seriously considering the FX30 and the crop that some may find a hindrance for their type of videography could be a benefit for wildlife and getting that extra reach.
Been waiting for this review. Ya it would be hard to go to APS-C when being spoiled with full frame. But dang Sony did. A great job with pricing it competitively. Great video as always!
Sony about to raise small indie film makers from the ashes. So many underrated film makers out there crowd funding for cinema cameras who now have a cine line camera made for them.
A great review and a clean statement about the aps- c sensor draw backs.. Thanks a lot... I too love full frame sensors
New setup looks crispy!! Loving it. The fx30 would’ve been great for my first camera but now that I have the a7iv, I can’t easily go back to aps-c
Thanks for all the content! Always keeps me inspired. I'm a aspiring mobile filmmaker ,
I hope I could afford some decent camera someday to level up my game.
Wish this would have been avalible when i got started with my a6600, definitely seems like THE apsc video oriented camera to get atm. Great video Peter 👍
Joining in on the +1 for the thumbnail, excellent little idea executed very well :) Good video as well, noe if only that money truck could make a stop at my studio doorstep soon …
One of the best creative thumbnail Ive seen in UA-cam for years…great concept… 🙌 👊🏻
Haha thank you!
Best FX30 thumbnail of all the embargo drops lol. Good work bro!
Cool new camera, thanks for giving us your take and who you recommend it for. I agree, if you don't already have full framethat is cool. BUT this is a sweet camera to get into the world of film making.
I just have to tell ya that thumbnail is extremely clever 👌👌 and great video Peter! Love your content as always! 😊
Great setup I noticed the change mate nice one
Amazing Thumbnail Peter, your style is beyond everything.
Haha thank you!
Very good presentation Peter and also very inventive thumbnail you made👍👍👍
Brilliant thumbnail, thanks for that awesome content! 🎉🙏🔥
It's a great start for young filmmakers and a step up for older filmmakers who may miss the internal filter and viewfinder for extreme light conditions the most.
I'm still waiting for the AX800, but since I suspect it won't come, I'll probably go for the FX30.
Hi Peter I appreciate the way you put things in perspective - the Scandinavian way. Direct , however considered.
Welp I’m sold, this is the perfect companion to my FX3. This was the review I’ve been waiting on thanks Peter great as always.
With cinema EF or PL lenses you can use speedbooster for kinda fullframe look
Sounds like a great entry level cinema camera! Thanks for the review Peter!
Cool camera! Still rocking my A7III though haha
Thank you very much
Hey, I’m I’ve been photographing sports on a Sony a7riii and the photos have been amazing . I’m looking to shoot video as well . Would you advise me to get the a7s3 over the fx30? I’m hesitant because the fx30 doesn’t shoot continuous just single shots and it has no view finder. i figure sometimes in the mix of filming sports i may want to catch something in action photo wise and i see that the s3 can shoot 10frames per second . I like that both these camera put out the same output video wise .
I’m really not sure on the choice . I’d appreciate some advice
I was literally going to buy the a7iv yesterday upgrading my Sony a6300 , but didn't had the time to go to the store and today I got your notification and clicked instantly, now I think I should wait for this camera since I have a couples apsc lenses, but I also have access to full frame lenses so what camera do you think I should get
Amazing 🔥💖
I have the A7iv and I think the FX30 would make a great B cam, as you said. I think the price point is pretty dang good for what you get.
Duuuude, got to commend the thumbnail. That was brilliant! My eyes first read "Sony FX30 - A Crippled FX30?" and then saw the picture thumbnail. The thumbnail complemented the video title so well 😂
Have to say your intro footage was amazing!
I have bought your Iut for vlog, i would like to know how to use it correctly, to see if you can help me in any way with that, I have put my Sony a6600 in Slog 2, I have put all the configuration that you suggest but my camera starts from ISO 500 and I see that yours you have in ISO 160 how is it possible? so I can't get 1.3 on the light exposure.
It says on the website that it's designed for S Log 3 =)
@@PeterLindgren1
Sorry I meant UA-camr LUT V2 is the one I bought
I think its a perfect upgrade from the zve10. You can use the same lenses but you get image stabilization, 10 bit, 2 card slots and weather sealing and longer battery life, without giving up the small light weight form that was the reason i sold my dslr and went for a mirrorless system.
For us it is attractive because of the smaller lenses. Currently running around with a A7C and the 24-105 which is just a massive burden on your back if you have to carry that stuff around. Perfect entry level cinema camera.
Get rid of the 24-105 for something lighter, no? I’m using an A7C myself and my entire lens collection fits into my messenger bag. If changing lenses drives you crazy my strategy doesn’t work lol.
Agreed, the Sony 18-105mm is so much smaller! And gives you more range too on the FX30
What camera did you use to film yourself in this video
A7SIII 👌🏼
Great thumbnail, Peter. Eye-catching when compared to all the FX30 reviews launched together.
Beginner videographer here. What is your opinion on using FX30 for darker, cloudy, dusk, predawn nature videos in forests? Could I get enough shadow details with F1.4 or 1.8 lens using ISO2500? Is the FX3 or A7S III full frame sensor significantly different in these scenarios? Much appreciated!
I'm here for that Thumbnail. Brilliant.
Haha thanks buddy!
I think I’m going to save my ducats for this camera in early 2023. I wanted the FX3, but I already have the APSC lenses… so this is just value add for me instead of having to reinvest in all new glass. I’m looking forward to it since I’m still very much a beginner.
I really think this camera is going to change the game for beginners and expert users. I have full frame cameras all the way down to m43 and this is going to be hit.
Also great for a set of 2 or 3 for multi cam interviews ! Or an FX6 as main and FX30 on a gimbal ...
Haven’t even watched the video yet - that thumbnail is pure 🔥🔥🔥
Agreed, that thumbnail is dope 🔥
Hey Peter, how are you? Does the FX30 has False Color? Couldn't check this info anywhere...
It's hard for me to touch an aps-c camera and not make a face like I just bit a lemon, but I guess it has its place in the video world, I have some aps-c glass and it makes focus pulling that little bit easier if you're shooting manual.
I do like the FX30 to go along with my FX3 for its ability to get that extra reach since the FX3 can't do APS-C mode when in 4K.
Great review! 💪😃
But the most important question is, where can I get those t-shirt?
I’ve been saving for a dedicated video cam (fx3) this is really interesting. The price to features make it a really difficult choice
I’m trying to figure out which camera I’d like to go with next! Thinking the SIII 🤔
Me personally..gotta be a full-frame camera. WOW! You brought all the new toys with you on that last trip! Some great video shots you got Peter! 👍👍
You got that right!
It’s a really kick butt price, that’s for sure. 👍
To download soft soft is the download free or do you have to pay for it?
I always watch your reviews first mate. You tell it like it is…. I’ve been wanting a A7siii for a while, but can’t justify the cost. This new camera may be my next purchase
Stopped by to like this JUST because the thumbnail was brilliant 😂🔥🔥
Very COOL thumbnail!
Nice specs and nice price caused to APS-C... so we have to do a nice research for the APS-C lenses. But what about vs A7iv? It's a lose-lose situation... FF on A7iv but 4K 50p crop and 4K 100p 1,6 x crop on FX30. I am having a headache.
As a sports videographer the crop that everybody is concerned about is a very welcome thing for me. It means alongside clear image zoom I could buy the affordable but very good 18-105 f4 and shoot football highlights.
For the kind of work I do at this time, and my limited budget for gear, APS-C was what I chose a few years ago with the a6400. I upgraded from a Lumix G85 system. I've invested in good APS-C lenses and built a small, mobile set up. I spent $$ on good lights, a good recording monitor, good filtres etc. So, the release of the FX-30, for me, is a huge deal. I can take advantage of the gear I already own BUT get an upgrade in performance.
For people like myself the prospect of getting "cinema" standards for $2300 (in Canada) is better than spending 4x that to get an a7siii, a7iv or FX-3 system set up. Better tools at an affordable price point is always a win.
Hey man I also have an a6400 and I am kinda in between uprgrading into fullframe or fx30. Can you please share your experinece with your fx30 (if you got it). Especially compared to a6400. Thanks
@@OnurTemur I have not yet gotten an FX30 .. I did have the chance to get one in hand at my local shop and am still very interested in getting it and hope to have it sometime this year. Sorry I couldn't give any more insight than that.
I am getting it as a BCam! ❤
epic présentation ! does it have an internal mic for multicam sync ?
it does
yeih, going to get it!
Getting one
Not sure if it was mentioned by anyone, but ASP-C - super 35 - has been the standard size for almost every motion picture ever shot digitally. $50,000 ALEXA's are still mostly ASP-C. If you're shooting features, narratives - and your crew is small - the less shallow depth of field is a god send for hitting focus. Take a look at Gerald Undone's review of this camera side by side of a Sony A-IV and you'll see the lights behind him breathing in the full frame and not in the FX30 APS-C. Yes they're more out of focus but I find the solid nature of APS-C focus better and more natural then a completely blurred BG.
Great point! I’m well aware of this, but the light gathering from a FullFrame and the FOV is what makes it for me. As I stated in the video, I’d love to have a camera like this when I started! Bu
Honestly, this whole Full Frame "look" is just a flex lol.. two words im tired of is "entry level" and "full frame look". No offense to anybody but it's tiring
Is it the same sensor as the a6600? Would you prefer this over the A7iv? I don't care about 4K 120.
Hello, it's about my sony fx30. I'm having trouble, it always pops up on the screen with "system error" do you know how to fix it? thanks
you need to decouple your mic from the desk. everytime you put your elbow on the desk my subwoofer would BOOM.
Great video Peter! Very informative. I like the second camera angle and the lighting looks fantastic!
Its not connected to the desk 🤷🏻
@@PeterLindgren1 hmmmm... weird... i wonder what is causing that booming sound then
I'm an APS-C Sony shooter and I'm excited about this camera. Been considering going Full-Frame because I thought that maybe Sony would be killing off the APS-C line and with the FX30 I don't have to upgrade and get to still use all my APS-C lenses. As soon as it's available I'm getting it.
Agreed, this gives me faith in APS-C with Sony!
I've got a FS7, and the FX30 would be such a great companion for it. A much better idea for me than buying a FX6 right now. (fingers crossed a FX60 comes out one day?? A FX6 body with a FX30 sensor in it)
Hi, I want to use this camera for its 4k 120, but heard that it is noisy at higher frame rates. Did you De-noise clips at 100 fps?
Yeah it’s mostly noisy because you need to increase the iso. No denoiser used 🫡
Wooow this is lagendery crob frame 😮for slow motion My question is did you push companies like Fuji to introduce slow mo 4k format or what pushes the rest of the companies towards competition bidding farewell to full hd format officially from this stronger history remains in competition
A great camera if you are super invested in crop lenses like me with my ZVE10
Just bought as7iii last week...should I return it? I also have a gh6 ☠️
If I have the Sony a74, only shoot video, and have no need for a B-cam, is the fx30 a step up down or sideways?
I’d say sideways
such a good thumbnail 👍
a very compelling camera!
This is the perfect camera for me to switch from Cannon to Sony. I'm going to pair it with a Metabones Canon EF to Sony E-Mount speed booster and keep my Cannon glass. It will be my first step in crossing over to the light side 😂
Good plan or dumb plan?
Very good plan !
I'm planning to do the same after I use my EOS R a bit more
Sony a74 or fx30 which is better plz suggest me
tiene muy buena pinta..!!!
I think the Arri Alexa 35 has something to say about your disdain for the Super 35 format. If you’re a film maker into vintage cinema lenses having an s35 sensor is a huge advantage.
Apsc is a still photography term. Odd to use that term when discussing a video camera.
I think Sony Venice has something on the Arri Alexa 🤷🏻👀
I've been saving up for the FX-3 and I know, it's still the real deal. But considering my needs for a foreseeable future, this camera came just right, and I don't need the full frame for that. Even with the top handle it will still leave some money on the table for a lens or two. I also live in Sweden so the $2200 for the combo is $3100 here, the FX-3 is $5000. My calculation is done 🙂
Why all these cameras are way more expensive there in Sweden? Doesn't make sense to buy from other countries as a traveller or from Amazon?
Just add a SPEED-BOOSTER to get an extra stop of light and the full-fram e focual length, you will loose out on some Auto-focus features... but id say most that would want this camera will at the very least want to 'practice' with Manual Lenses anyway // and if you're shooting a Wedding Ceremnoy, Speaker on stage at an event, or Real Estate videos - you BETTER have that on Manual!
Bro thats got to be the dopest thumbnail I've seen in a minute
Agreed! Clicked so hard 😂
HAhaha thanks man!
Such a good thumbnail
For someone who owns an a7iv for photo and video will this be a good b camera?
As someone with the A7iv, I'd say yes. Tho I'd take the path of upgrading from the A7iv to FX3 and then using the A7iv as a B
I don’t know what is the matter of the crop factor, many cinema cameras are super 35 and they have lenses that produce the same effect on screen!
As a beginner video creator who uses a GoPro, I think I'd still take a A7III over the FX30 because I'm into photography as well and can't budget two cameras.
i want this camera
it’s the Thumbnail that brought me here first coz i am seeing all the creators i follow dropped the same review video all at once 😅
Peter, perfect video! 🙌🏼Would you say it’s worth upgrading from a a7iii?
If you don't need the full frame then absolutely.
Perfect, 🙏
I'd rather go with the A7iv actually. As you already have the fullframe glass for the a7iii
@@JonasBecker thats a good idea. just wish i could get the 4k120 without the $3600+ price...
What are those pants called?
perfect small time UA-camr camera! once you have monetize your channel and wanted something better to up the production level yet the prices of full frame lenses can be intimidating sometimes!
Gotta agree with the full frame, if you are using it and have been using it for a long time it’s really hard to see things in apsc 😅
im considering this or the Lumix S5. Would you say they are completely different ballparks in terms of feature sets and/or workflows? I know the S5 is full frame and they start to go down to decent prices for new ones as well as from the second hand market.
Oooh, tough call! I'd say that either is good.
I would say that Lumix S5 is a clearly a better camera. But in case you are already in Sony APS-C, then the FX30 is your next camera.
One man band sony all day long because some shots its realy hard to do with manual focus or kinda good autofocus. I rather have good shots in focus then oke shots with full frame glass. Thats my take with filming. Manual practics makes perfect. In out focus is great with manual. Autofocus: push in shots to stay in focus is easier with good autofocus aka sony cameras
I wouldn’t be looking at this camera if Sony hadn’t released that 11mm f1.8. I have a full frame Sony with no options for a small lightweight 16mm prime with AF, and front filter threads. All the APS-C lenses are available now to shoot any full frame equivalent I would want, so it’s starting to make sense. I’d hold onto my FF wildlife lens and my FF 35.
Thumbnail 🔥
did you upload this in prores?
Nope
If I use the kit lens of the Sony a7iv for the Sony fx30 will I get a big crop?
Just take the focal length and multiply by 1.5 👌🏼
@@PeterLindgren1 thanks
Where did You by Your t-shirt?? 🤔😁 What company is it? 😎
I’d be happy to ditch my current Canon EOS R + Sony ZV-1 setup for a FX-30 for video and an used A6400 or similar for stills. ”Downgrading” to the APS-C doesn’t bother me but spec-wise the FX30 ticks all the boxes I’d like to have in a video camera and A7SIII is way too expensive. IBIS and decent rolling shutter and first and foremost reliable autofocus matter for me more than ultrasuper shallow dof.
