That's the big question that I was hoping you'd answer more - what are the benefits of the FX3 over the FX30? The FX30 looks like a great 2nd camera if you shoot an FX3, but it would have been great to hear more about the differences. I guess that's why I'm looking to Gerald Undone now too!! I think it is not necessarily for every content creators, but for those that want to go more into filmmaking that exceeds tiktok. Especially if they know that they want to go in steps and upgrade to more expensive cinema cams. They can even keep it later as a B cam after they upgrade and easily match. On top if they already know they want to upgrade at some point they can go a little cheaper on the body and use the saved money into accessories like monitors cf exporess cards that they can keep and still use when the upgrade.
Considering that the gap really is between the a6600 and the fs5, there's really a place for this APS-C camera. The smaller sensor has its advantages, and now we have a more affordable option with more information and active cooling. I already have lenses for APS-C, and if I get enough projects to justify the purchase I'll go for it.
This is my situation. I have an fs5 with inferno and an a6300 as my bcam. It's time to upgrade that a6300 and this is the camera for me as I have the lenses already and just want something else that can give me 10bit 4k, unlimited run time and other features.
I am still playing with the original Nikon Z6 shooting ProRes over HDMI on a Ninja V but I’m thinking of getting the Sony FX30 or FX3 (since Sony makes the video chip for both and I ASSUME the color science would be the same… ?) but I wonder which Sony would produce output similar to the Nikon Z6 or does a Ninja V for each make the moot???
Cool! Can’t wait for these features to make their way into the regular crop sensor cameras.

Shout out to my friend Stephen for the color grading on this video. I honestly can't tell the difference between this and the Fixes shot on the Canon R5.

I've been shooting with Sony for the last 5 years mainly with the A6300 for 4 years till it died few months back and upgraded to the Sony A7IV. In my opinion this camera is great as B camera for hybrid shooters like me as I was thinking to get another APSC camera to replace my beloved A6300. The price is very good just for the body so, I will definitely buy this one as still got APSC lenses and is a good addition for my freelancing work as B camera.Great video by the way!!

Quick question for you: I’ve seen a few people in the comments on other videos that said they didn’t like it because they said the quality was bad due to high noise in all lighting conditions. Have you noticed this at all with your footage? I always take everything with a grain of salt when reading people UA-cam comments lol
@@oldmanhendo7183 Yeah, I've been seeing that, too on other UA-cam Videos. So basically the higher the ISO the more noise you'll get, which is true for all cameras. The Dual Base ISO for the FX3 works great at 2500 and 12800. But the Dual Base ISO for the FX30 works great at 800 and 2500. Those are the numbers I use for my low light situations. I struggle to find reasons FX30 is competing with R7. It is going after GH6 XH-2S, and a super upgrade for ZV-E10.
R7 is a photo first camera with good video spec for its price. In order to justify the older CMOS
I don’t think the FX30 is competing with any hybrid camera. It is competing with video cameras like Black Magic. It’s really just a video camera, but because of that clarity of design it is far better for its intended and singular purpose, video, than any hybrid. Hybrid cameras are compromised by design and principle.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I rather shoot two systems dedicated and set up for either stills or video.

How does the FX30 compare with the X-H2S?
I think this is a great second camera, the zv-e10 is a great first camera and this will be a great upgrade, which allows you to keep using the apsc glass.
Thanks for the preview Jared! Definitely tough decision between the two. Even though one is full frame and the other is APS-C, the price factor is another huge deal breaker. Wish i had this camera back in 2016 as i could have spend the extra money left over on lenses. I purchased the a7Sii back then for $3,000.00 and today, new filmmakers can get an FX30 for just $1,800 bucks!!!
Does it have a Tally light?
Well said that the FX30 is not a good beginner camera. It’s just as advanced as the FX3 function wise and will be costly when all the necessities are added.
The FX30 is a pro video machine with ergos made for video, something where no hybrid can really compete. That it pairs with compact and light super35 lenses means it is easier to bring along a dedicated stills camera. Perhaps a film medium format camera like a Mamiya or Hasselblad. Or with a digital medium format like the X2D.
The ZVE10 or Nikon Z30 are much better for someone starting out.
Agree. It's all about cheaper lenses or already owning super 35 cinema lenses. Not much more to say
So for someone looking to get a new camera strictly for video to replace my old Canon M50 would this be recommended more than the A7C? I was about to pull the trigger on the A7C

Already have the a7S III, but was aiming for a 2nd camera. This one goes beyond 2nd camera into being x2.05 at 4K@120fps for ultra macro (x5 becomes 10x!) and ultra telephoto (600mm becomes 1230mm!).

Fro! Never thought I would see a Sony APSC Cinema camera, I have used the FX3 a lot for work and thought it was as low end as Sony would go with their 'cinema' line. Do you think Sony will put out a new APSC sills camera or are they done? I love my a6000.

As someone who's been shooting UA-cam videos for over two years on my Sony ZV-1, the new FX30 was an insta-buy. I have it on preorder already, along with the Sony 11mm f/1.8 lens (my first prime). I use the fro pack to help me edit my thumbnails. Love it! Really makes every pic I take look more professional. Only thing is I usually have to tweak it for my skin tone

I have a FX3 and this was great because I have a Fujinon MK lens I love that Super 35 on the new FX30. So now I have an excellent A & B camera now! My A74 is backup, and pictures or 3rd if I'm doing a 2-person interview.

I was in thoughts of getting the canon r7 as i already own a few canon lenses and I wanted something better for my filmmaking as work has finally started to pick up, i thought the sony fx30 looked so cool and i also wanted to get it just for the aesthetics alone xD but since i already have canon lenses it was too big a step, or so i thought...
once i head the news about canons decision to ban third party companies from producing lenses for their R mount i decided i'm gonna go with sony and get the fx30
I don't want to be "forced" to either buy their lenses (which i might have done anyway) or not have any lens to buy, i want to have my options as a consumer, and not be led on a one way path with no other choice
Canon literally drove me and a bunch of other people away from their products even tho we've always been canon fanboys, I wonder if anyone else shares our thoughts

It can take stills but no mechanical shutter i believe.
You can take stills. I took some and, with the right lighting, they came out great! You just can't do burst shots with it, but I never shoot in bursts. So, I'm fine taking photos with it. I love that it's video focused. That's why I bought mine.

Why is this camera not good for stills? Is it just because it doesn't have an EVF? I use the FX3 for over a year and it was fine
No mechanical shutter. The FX3 has a mechanical shutter. Fx30 is electronic shutter only….
Otherwise it should be good since its higher MP than fx3
I agree, the FX-30 seems too advanced for a real video noob. But as a B cam for Sony video shooters, it looks great. You didn't mention whether it has IBIS, or if you did, I didn't hear it. And what about animal eye AF? Only the A7 IV, of all the Sonys, has that in video.

I wish I can buy the XLR handle and use it on the a7iv. Honestly I am blown away by the fx30. I am a full-time videographer and video editor. I do photography but mostly video. I may consider the fx30 since the fx3 isn't a current option and I'm newly going into the Sony system. With phone dominating the market, which aren't full frame of course, I believe nobody today will care if you have a full frame or not as long as the quality is good. Never had the chance to work on film systems such as red or arri, however have some experience on c 300 mark 2 as a film camera. For a professional who can't afford the fx3 I am considering the fx30, mostly for the facts that you don't need a cage, the fan, tally lights, and the xlrs. My dream camera is actually the fx6 or fx9 for film. However I might have to stick with the a7iv. Too much details here and there that are holding me back. I'm used to Canon. But don't have my own gear yet.

It's very tempting, but I might wait and see what the a7R V will look like. I shoot both video and photo, purely as a hobby. The FX30 doesn't even have a mechanical shutter, so it's nothing like a hybrid. Otherwise it's very attractive, I don't mind the crop factor for video, and smaller lenses means smaller gimbal. I would only need 1 new lens, the E PZ 10-20.
the fx3 is $4000 the fx30 is $2000 , that's persuasive if you are price point sensitive , and if you have serious video centric ambitions or applications , I would like to see you set up a fully kitted-out static rig and price everything for the fx30 , and absolutely that's my needs

Would you recommend switching from Sony A7C to Sony FX30? I love my A7C, but it does bother me that I can't shoot 120p in 4k and 8 bit video.

In my opinion this camera is going against the BMCC 4/6k, which is a bomb of camera and a lot of film makers love.
It's a different product, but the price is there. I personally think that the Lumix S5 would still be a better choice for hybrid shooters.

My a7iii has a busted mic in port - and I really just want a reason to get a second, more video focused body... I hate the EVF on the a7C and prefer no EVF with flip out screen, but will it be ok with my Tamron 17-28/28-75/70-180 f/2.8 lenses?
Should be, just multiply all of your focal links by 1.5 to see what they will actually look like on an APS-C camera

I was saving up for the FX-3 and I really stretched for that, like, I'd buy that and nothing else, adding to my already existing full Sony line. Wanted a cine camera with those 120fps and all the rest of the goodies. But now this FX30 will give me the same and I'll have money left to get some more lenses. So my answer is yes, buyin'!

Question #2 If one is hiring video people - would it be easier to get someone who knows the FX3 or FX30 (or no matter) - vs other camera ecosystems (though I’m pretty sure nobody is shooting the Nikon Zs 💤)
The FX30 is style of substance for me.
FX30 if you shoot raw with ninja V for example, you got 16bit raw footage… Thats sick…
The ninja V only records 12 bit.

The cheap point and shoot cameras don't give newbies a cinema menu or quality. The FX30 seems to be for BMPC4K users that have S35 glass.
So it got the same RED BOX for video recording indication like Z9 firmware 2.0 ..... lol

Fx30 is perfect for someone who graduates from ZVE10 and doesn't necessarily willing to spend thousands and thousands for full frame lenses.
R5 colours look a lot better on your skin and i think it's also sharper but seems like a cool little camera for people who want a sony camera or can't afford the fx3 i guess

Jared, do you read messages? I asked you a couple of questions and you did not reply. With cameras that crop, will I get the picture that I see in my viewfinder or will I get a cropped photo which I did not intend. Say I shoot at 18 mm and it I get a photo as is I was using a 28.8mm. my question is: will I see in my viewfinder the final photo at 28.8 mm and not what the camera sees at 18mm? I simply do not want to take a photo, a face photo and get eyebrows and a nose and chin. Do you understand?

I know right, I am not a videographer so I could care less that my Z9 has video capability.
As someone who does video way more now, I wish there was more video focused cameras like this that aren't $6k+ or heavy on photo capabilities lol
FX3 is soooo muuch better because of the dynamic range, FF and better rolling shutter handling. Even A7Cis "better" as a b-camera, it's cheaper than this, FF and has better dynamic range = 15 stops vs. 14 stops.

jared, I think you missed the blackmagic stuff here - this thing is pretty much a better option for anyone looking at a BM pocket tyoe camera.
1.7k is still a hefty price tag for a "beginner". I think my A7ii is going to have to last a while longer 😅
I still wouldn't advice this as an entry camera. Like Jared points out: a good camera is nothing without the skills to use it.
This camera body (1.7 k) plus some good glass (at least 1k extra) plus lights, microphones, memory card... That'll be a cool let's say 3 to 3.5k. I'd still argue that picking up a good used Canon / A7ii / A6600 / GH4 is probably going to be a lot cheaper if you are new to the craft and want to give it a go. This camera is much more for the intermediate / semi pro. Where you have some gear already, know what you are doing and already generating content.
@@SyntheticFuture Very good points. I'm shooting livestreams running three cameras at the same time and it's a lineup of an A6400 for the headshot, A7III and an A5100 for my guitar playing hands. I was looking at the FX-3 and saving up for doing more video stuff, B-rolls on steroids with that 120fps in 4K... Now this FX30 really came at the right moment, and, as you say, for someone who's already "on the go", in my case I'm fully into Sony with several lenses, would I dare calling my self intermediate..? It's a stretch, but I'm buying this camera.
Highly disagree on the glas, glass, glass statement for video cameras. 4K video is just 12MP, where it's really hard to see a difference between slightly softer and tack-sharp lenses.
Plus, you might use vintage glass for a creative effect (like the Helios 44-2 that even the Batman used).
buy a M class card instead of a G class card and get a tough card ... do you need 4.2.2 ei for tiktok? I don't think so
