That's the power of Bach for you. Plus the violin. I think this really is Bach's greatest work for a single instrument. I'm including his klavier works and also piccolo-cello sonatas (now known as the famous cello sonatas, but they were originally written for a smaller 5-stringed instrument). As a violist I obviously would want to claim that the 'cello' sonatas we play on viola are just as captivating, but they're not as powerful as this Chaconne ... which is just one movement. This piece is on another level of compositional greatness. Magical.
A German musicologist, Helga Thoene, discovered that J.S. Bach encoded the lyrics in this piece. By assigning the musical notation to the numbers corresponding to the individual letters of the alphabet, you can read the coded message: "Ex Deo nascimur, in Christo morimur, per Spiritum Sanctum reviviscimus". Bach was a genius not only in the musical sphere... The performance of this piece was absolutely perfect.
Bach flies to us through the centuries and always brings a powerful message about the drama of the human soul. Artists translate his language into emotion.
Thank you. What a story you've told. You speak through your instrument and the notes are not an impediment to your story. How tender. How hopeful. How reminiscent. How painful to have known flight and returned to earth. How brilliant to look up and remember. Thank you so much for the hours and years you've taken to master your art.
@@bt9124 How do we know? You can have vibrato on gut strings... where did this "no vibrato" nonsense came from? There is not one word about how Bach liked or disliked vibrato on his works.
Bach's music is all about mankind's relationship with God, and this piece so splendidly played is deeply spiritual and food for meditation... again thank you my dear friends in Frankfurt for letting us have this divine music in such sad times.
Among all composers of all times Bach is, without any doubt, for meditation i just can't get how he did it, how he could write such a music... When You play this or at least try to play this, it is like your brain explodes while You are deeply concentrated and Focus on the instant ... Definetely it is a spiritual thing happening ❤️❤️❤️
@@iaf1810 Yes, I agree. To me Bach is simply the most spiritual composer there ever was... he is utterly unlike any other composer of music, i.e. he stands alone in his individuality...the older I get the more I like him, and need him.

(Methaphoric speaking… no ‘orchestra’ needed for The Chaconne ; in fact… even one violin ‘could be too much’ … if it could be just ‘played’ with not even a single violin but with just the soul… :-). But I know what you mean. It’s true. This versión is… top amd deepest sound… right!:-)
I think this is by far, the best recording of this monumental work that I've heard so far. Perfect tempi and the flow is hair raising... Thank you Marc Bouchkov!
I can't think of another artist who has both the technical command and the guts to go to these extremes in 2021 without sounding completely outdated. Bouchkov's Bach is the much needed antithesis to the status quo of Bach interpretation represented by artists like Isabelle Faust and Vikingur Ólafsson. Mind you, I have the highest respect for those artists, but this interpretation reminds us that there is a world beyond the current zeitgeist.
Marc Bouchkov is not trying to be the fastest virtuoso in the world, but he brings out the structure of this great work in a particularly clear way. Bravo!
Good grief. It takes much for 'yet another Chaconne' to make me sit up and take notice, but the playing here was superb; however, the fiddle itself made it. It's a Carlo Bergonzi - as great a maker as Strad or Guarneri, but who left us precious few instruments. What an instrument - and played by someone who can really use it. Many, many thanks for posting :-) A wonderful quarter-of-an-hour.
@@Lajos279 I love the 19th century French school - my father habitually played an 1853 George Chanot (Paris) in preference to his (genuine) A&H Amati, which says much I think. PS Bergonzi and del Gesù seemingly bought some wood off the same tree, as the bellies of both sometimes have exactly the same sap mark running down alongside the fingerboard. The ribs here are beautifully figured and aligned, which almost certainly discounts del Gesù, leaving, in my view, only Bergonzi... Just my two-pence worth!

In my opinion, the best interpretation ever recorded is from Hilart Hahn.
Apart from the modern temptation to vibrato, which is completely out-of-touch and keeping with Bach, I agree.

The interpretation is a little too romantic. A little lack of dynamics. A little too much breaks of silence in some part.
