My grandfather passed a month before this brilliant concert was recorded. He used to be an organ restorateur, working for the company Kern in Strasbourg, France. He travelled all over the world - mostly in the 70s and 80s - to fix, install and build organs. Bach was his favourite. I take this as his eulogy. Farewell, I will forever miss you grandad. As soon as I hear the first bars I feel : "B a c h !" as fluid in the back of my shoulders and down my back. Then it fleeds into my heart. What is it? W h a t is it? It is the expression of the spirit of life. Thank you God! Thank you that I am a human being and that you allow me to hear something like this! Thank you musicians for bringing this into my world!

Oh my God ! This masterpiece, "Bach's Harpsichord Concerto No 1 in D minor" was actually composed for Harpsichord, but in this incredible version we are able to hear an organ addition, and it doesn't sound like only an Harpsichord Concerto, but also sounds like an Organ & Harpsichord Concerto. Its the best classical composition adaptation and addition of a new instrument to a piece I've ever heard.

The fact that humanity can't _instantaneously_ escape from this base condition, but must instead climb its way out _gradually_ over the course of millennia, is not evidence that our species is fundamentally corrupt in some special way. On the contrary, this lengthy and difficult process is to be expected, and that any kind of moral advancement has occurred _at all_ is remarkable in and of itself. It is irrational to judge the rate of human progress according to a fanciful standard of supernatural perfection.

Bach not only wrote scores of magnificent music, but lived in such difficult times, when there were no standard in the tuning system and his music had to sound equally well on almost any instrument. You can play Bach on a saxophone in a jazz ensemble and it will be still a masterpiece.

Any how, the girl plays terribly fast . Listen eventually some records of Georges Enesco playing or conducting (h-moll Messe!!) Bach.Het's authoritative.

I think why she is looking so hard and strict is her concentration on her playing. If you make music and put your full concentration on the play of the music, you have no time to think about your looking, if you look nice or strict. I play the violin and I also sometimes look strict or angry during playing the instrument. Other people say to me sometimes , that I have looked strict or angry and that I could look nicer during the play. But I cannot take notice on my face look during the playing.

Пожалуй, это и есть настоящее звучание концерта ре минор. Всё уравновесилось! Затем (если не на первом месте) - звучание со скрипкой. Характер некоторых пссажей показывает, что Бах мыслил его "скрипично".

All comments are respectable and practically they have said all, i would like to say that this material acording to my orchestral scores i bought some years ago in Europe , BACH used the first movment of the concert in the introduction of the the "Cantata 146" , and what a great surprice, it is written for ORGAN....... The first time I heard this great creation was by Murray Perahia on the piano and I was totally in awe. But now that I hear it in the way that Bach had possibly intended it to be heard (the organ), the other transcriptions pale in comparison. No one can out do the great master... the best one can do is try to be faithful to his conceptualization ! :)

Magnificent! I first heard this many years ago with Glenn Gould (piano of course with Columbus Ohio Symphony) and a few years ago repurposed as a violin concerto with NY Philharmonic. This is by far the most musically satisfying. Thank you.

Echt bewundernswert!

Ist ja spannend, was du da alles so raushörst. Anmutig und doch gut artikuliert! Das widerspricht sich ja sonst völlig. Aber besonders beeindruckt bin ich, dass du hier ein "schimmerndes Cembalo" raushörst, da zweifelt man ja fast an den eigenen Ohren... :D

just pure brilliance, really how MOVING this performance is. I am so extremely fond of this video, I have been watching it at least 20 times A DAY all the way since I found her a week ago. I am obsessed with this gorgeous woman and her T.A.L.E.N.T. Its not often you find such a pearl in music.
If only I had started piano and organ earlier and had someone like her in my life to teach ..... This must be the epitome of being alive, thats how I imagine it to be like.

What a wonderful performance, full of expression and so very melodious.A concert organ is a very powerful instrument inclined to be dominant, but Iveta clearly knows how to ''ride this horse'' and make its sound perfectly merge with a formidable orchestra. Bach would have loved this concert :-).

This is the second concert of Iveta Apkalna that I’ve seen, courtesy of UA-cam. Beautifully rendered as well as the GF Handel Op6 No4 was. I love the order and structure of Bach’s magnificent music. A previous commenter is correct-you can literally perform his musical creations in any ensemble of any instrumentation and it will sound just beautiful. His music is truly universal! Congratulations to Ms Apkalna and this Frankfurt ensemble for a lovely rendition of this magnificent piece.💖🎶💖
