And everybody new at that moment that a new tenor was on the scene. One the like of which this world has never seen, nor will every see again. He matured and got even better, bringing us such wonders as "No More Night" and a version of "Let Freedom Ring" like it ain't ever rung before, and even when he has sung his last note and breathed his last breath, his voice will always live on in our hearts and memories. God Bless David Phelps!
This is from '97 and he is only baby 27 or 28. He is now 52 been married for 30 years, 4 kids who sing and David is just better and better....I can listen to him all the time
......And that night a phenomenally talented Godly man began a career of ministering to the world. He is still singing his heart out at 53 and wowing multitudes throughout the year as he travels the country singing of GOD' S forgiving and lasting love for all of mankind. GOD bless you David and continue pouring out your love on him his beautiful family, and the entire Phelps band.❤🙏
That "Amen" he did at the end, he must be really grateful to God and to Mark and Bill for giving him a chance to join the GVB after being broke, homeless and uninstable with 2 kids and a wife when they moved to Nashville. God is amazing indeed
David is NOT dramatic, he's very anointed to sing God's praises!!! He puts all his heart and soul into what he's singing, and that's what, I believe, is pleasing in God's sight...SINGGGGGGGGGGGGG David!!
I'm no believer, but I do believe that this video will one day be known as the world premier of the world's greatest ever gospel tenor. Thank you for being the custodian of this performance!
Man David, you never cease to amaze me. Every time I hear this man sing I can expect goosebumps, my heart pauses, and my eyes grow big with such amazement. What a gift from God.
That blend at 5:08 is the most perfect thing I've ever heard in all my musical experiences. If only the audio were a bit clearer, there'd be overtones all the way up the scale.
One of my fav tenors in southern Gospel music... David Phelps really shows his vocal training on this! This video has be of a performance several years ago as David went out on his own, then came back about 3 years ago. I love the current GVB

LOL...Marks talent for saying things to bring the humor of our live is God given ! The Word says. " The joy of the Lord is our strength!" Be joyful in Him.
LOVE Phelps, but he was testing the waters in this era on what style to sing. He sounds like the Isaacs on this song. I'm glad he changed that.. He is my favorite tenor
I sure wish they would get back together. They were the Beatles of gospel music. There will never be another group like them. Each one of them are a super talent. Love those guys
David Phelps is terrific. The problem with the performance is Bill Gaither's long, stupid attempt to hog the limelight and Mark Lowry's stupider-than-stupid comic bit. He wasn't funny when he was funny. That comic relief (from really good singers and really good arrangements and good musicians) is never pleasant.
dont tell me u dont know about music dude. he sings the melody there. and in every songs whoever sings the melody must louder thn the other voice.. but the most important is they both are great singer and sing for jesus.

He is so good. I listen to him everyday day.
Iove his beautiful family

This GVB lineup was incredible. David, Mark, and Guy had a sound that has never been, and will never be matched.
BEYOND TRUE
Exactly they sound great those 4
100% Best vocal band lineup and it’s not even close. 👍🏼
When Wes sang with the vocal group Michael, Mark, David and Bill that was a awesome blend of voices too 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
At the end, DP says "Amen"...he often does that. He knows where his gift comes from. Praise God! Such a wonderful vocalist.
MollyGon03 his vocal cords and training?
Praise God
Stellar vocalist and beautiful inside by the grace of God. We are all blessed 🙌 by his gift.

Introducing the BEST tenor EVER in the GVB lineup.
I wish I had been in the audience to see this legend first take the stage .... Wow what a moment in history
David is waiting to make the most important performance of his life and here's Mark talking about his ears . . . priceless!!

'm a new fan. Heard David sing O holy Night Christmas 2014. Now addicted!
David’s debut with the GVB & they’re making him wait while they crack jokes🤣😂, but he still knocks it out of the park!!!
Wow, he has been FANTASTIC since day one! Thank You Lord!
I'm no believer, but I do believe that this video will one day be known as the world premier of the world's greatest ever gospel tenor. Thank you for being the custodian of this performance!
Jacob Gods people have always had a special place in HIS heart. I am thankful to be grafted in. Blessing may you find all your heart looks for.
It's not just the voice my lost friend, but the message.

David Phelps is one of my very favorites! I love to hear this man sing!! He is fabulous!

This is one of Bill Gaither's favorite songs for tenors to sing. All the new recruits have to sing it. Lol
3:41 nice to meet you Mr Dave Phelps
Wonderful Music that always touches My heart...lifts My Soul....
I pray we'll be able to listen to David sing with the GVB for a long, long time.
You go David.....Love this.
That blend at 5:08 is the most perfect thing I've ever heard in all my musical experiences. If only the audio were a bit clearer, there'd be overtones all the way up the scale.
I was at this concert! I remember this performance well. I was so excited!
i like that..what year was that????? 😘😍👍
Glenden Thompson this was New Year’s Eve in 1997.

Stunning, can't listen to any other version of this without thinking about davids
The chord at 5:08 is perfectly in tune, and it creates that soaring Eb5 overtone. Incredible performance.
Wow, nice catch on the overtone! I wouldn't have noticed that otherwise.
GUY and DAVID are the Best
in the world
GLORY to God!!! Amazing voice, such a blessing
oh my goodness....at 5:08..the blend is just simply ridiculous. they have so much talent.
David is the best and Mark is hilarious.
Amen little is much when God is in it!

He used to go by Dave. That's what his family and friends call him.
Ladies and gentlemen...........DAVID PHELPS!
Never enough....💕💕💕
phelps does it again
God bless ur wonderful voice David
one of his first appearences and he did it again =)
"Your wheels are spinnin', but the hamster's dead." -Mark Lowry, 1998
LOL...Marks talent for saying things to bring the humor of our live is God given ! The Word says. " The joy of the Lord is our strength!" Be joyful in Him.
Wow - this wasn't even on the Jubilate 97 video they put out - did you record this off TV on New Year's Eve night?!? This is so awesome.
Music is so much better in a quartet....these guys are magical.....
Amazing David!
Gifted
I love Mark!!
Glory..
nice song guys..
Amen
Love Larry Ford's version too.
LOVE Phelps, but he was testing the waters in this era on what style to sing. He sounds like the Isaacs on this song. I'm glad he changed that.. He is my favorite tenor
This is Awesome thanks for posting!!!!!!!! How long had he been with the group when this was made??? And what Video is it from??? Thanks again

3:57....Que extensão incrível
He'd actaully only been with them a few months!
Great🎉
mark did not know how David is at this time he did not know who he was teasing
He knew very well. Mark was the one who recommended David to Bill.
the Isaacs !? lol interesting thought.
1:48 to skip Bill's grandstanding
Mister Gaither can grandstand all he wants - he's served God for many years and loved by many
The whole video?
Dave Phelps??? that's interesting
Does anyone know where this is? NQC maybe?
what's this concerts'/homecoming name??
to my understanding..it must be 1996...thats when David came in... Guy Penrod came in 1994.
@@gtmalalo Actually, David came in in 1997 and Guy in 1995
because....nobody knows him by that name today.....perhaps it was supposed to be his stage name.....David is better though ;)
I thought the song was much faster...not so slow and sounding like a opera.
3:45 Dave phelps? 😜
I've heard Wes Hampton and Buddy Greene call him Dave a few times. Maybe they call him that behind the scenes.
I'm a huge David Phelps fan, but Wes Hampton(my opinion) does a better job for me
I can't do that for you. I'm sorry, but i do not post whole videos.
Yes i did actually. well my dad did
I just wish all the comedy routine was left off at the beginning...
David Phelps before he went soft and got him a cute little perm. Lol!

He wasn't funny when he was funny. That comic relief (from really good singers and really good arrangements and good musicians) is never pleasant.
I do agree!! Mark is annoying.
Get on with it. You’re not a comedian!
David is so over the top dramatic lol I much prefer Wes Hampton's voice...
Don't put him down, David has his sty
oh my gosh he's not show boating. He is doing what is asked of him by Bill Gaither. He's blessed with that voice. Greatest tenor ever.
you can´t even compare these two, wes is a good singer but david phelps is one of the greatest singers ever not only in gospel music
dont tell me u dont know about music dude. he sings the melody there. and in every songs whoever sings the melody must louder thn the other voice..
but the most important is they both are great singer and sing for jesus.
i like phelpsy but i prefer terry franklin doing this song
Mike Mallecoccio amen on my friend terry Franklin one tenor as natural as can be i love singing tenor an lead an bass baritone
Amen
I can't do that for you. I'm sorry, but i do not post whole videos.
