Random pro tip: You can import other Bitwig projects into a project, and it'll create a new group with all the tracks inside that project. Very handy if you want to build up a template with minimal tracks initially, but add 'sections' as you need them.
Thank you! i finally found a comprehensive video on this that isn't filled with condescending commentary or pretentious. You explain this software exceedingly well!
Brilliant tips Alex! Time savers for sure. For the bouncing in place in the arranger view, would still like a "rollback to midi " function, just in case I decide to use another instrument or vst and have the midi source available rather than lost during the bounce in place process. This is what I currently do to get around that: I make a normal bounce, then deactivate the midi source file and hide it. Need to make a change of instrument (or the midi)? Unhide it, copy any new effects I've made in the bounce, activate it, change instrument or FX, bounce again, rename, delete previous bounce and finally deactivate and hide source file again. There's got to be an easier way to accomplish this... In cubase and studio one, there is just no thinking involved (need to save CPU? Freeze. Need to make a change? Unfreeze, make change, refreeze). Let us know in a future video :) Thanks again! Your tips are golden nuggets of Bitwig wisdom :)
First of all thank you for your words! I'm glad to be helpful. Secondly I agree, there should be an "unbounce" option, then it would beat freeze all the way
you can prevent this by dragging the "'to be bounced clip" to the clip session it will keep modulation if any was set then bounce the one in the arrangement ... not happy drag en drop the midi back and voila l
thank you for tips. do you know how to sync properly two drum machines? I recording them to clip launcher but,not starting at clip start but with slight delay 2 they have different delay in clips
Thank you, this was useful. I read the entire Bitwig manual last year, but of course I couldn't remember all of it, and you showed me a couple of things I'd forgotten about: the focus mode where you only see the tracks from a particular group is really cool, and also what you said about Bounce in Place and how you can place the effects either in the plugin or after it for different levels of access after the bounce... that was very interesting too.
You are an excellent teacher, Alex! I've learned so much about Bitwig in the past few days from your videos! I am coming from Ableton and I am starting to see what all the Bitwig buzz is about!
Another tip for Bouncing In Place. When you do that you lose the Midi data. Instead of copying and pasting it into the Clip Launcher as a backup, if you place the Track in a Group and then bounce in place the group, the midi clips inside remain for editing in the future.
Excellent video, again! Another helpful thing to do is set up controller panels in a standardised way and save them with your presets. Eg. I always put cutoff, reso, attack and decay on as the first row and out the volume in the 8th slot, leaving the three slitsfor tonal (LFO, etc) and effects. This means it is super fast and consistent to set the instrument preset to your midi controller. i always know how the main controls will align to the knobs on my controllers (FaderFix PC12, Akai midiMix, EletraOne, etc.)
The tips were useful, even if I knew them all, but sometimes we forget a few elements, so a refresh is nice. For an arrangement vid, I was expecting turning a complete 16 bar loop into a bigger track, with reduction - as in which elements to remove at what time, along with adding effect automation over the entire timeline to compliment our new structure - perhaps for another arrange video!
Hi.Thanks again for your great advice.I don't know if you already have a video about the left window of Bitwig. In which numbers and other things appear when you insert an instrument. It would be nice if you could explain a little bit about this. Of course there is documentation, but it is much easier to understand visually with explanations. I've only been working with Bitwig for a month, but I've learned more in a couple days of watching your videos than in a month of reading the documentation.:)
Fantastic! Love number 7! Do you have any midi tips and tricks? I’m struggling with sending and receiving midi from my tr-6s and mc101. The audio is a breeze!
You can also build an entire track in the clip launcher, then simply press record and trigger the clip groups in sequence to your preference. Then everything will be in your timeline and you can tweak and spruce up as you like. Super quick way to build an entire song.
How are you going to reverse an Instrument or the Chords you put into a MIDI lane? For my understanding it seems to just work for audio files? Maybe you could add this one as well? Trank you ❤

Something analogous to doing scales, but for arrangement. I can't figure out what "deliberate practice" for arrangement looks like!
Is this Bitwig version 5? I still wait for the final 5 version, because all those betas is not convenient to work with. I know templates. Sometimes hard to see what happens if I save. For example I save as template, and later I want to save the project. But then I think I must always use "File - Save as" because if I chose the other options "File -Save" or "Collect and Save" is just overwrite the template, but will not save the project. But if there is no template it will save the project. it confuses me somehat regularly.
I think that's why BW offers the save as template and save as... options as two separate things. Also yes, this is BW 5 but all these tips are also for BW 4

I suggest to everyone not to use bounce or bounce in place. Unfortunately those functions are broken. You can hear is exceptionally well on material with transients. Bitwig will remove all transients from your material after bounce. The longer bounces also a problem. You can try to bounce long note and flip the phase of bounced clip.
