Why doesn't anyone talk about all the sink holes that were active in the area anymore? Deltona was underwater for months after the hurricanes last year too which is a wonder that housing prices are still through the roof after all of the floods and damages. No working drainage at all.
You'll hear about sinkholes when someone's house gets swallowed up or a street sinks. I don't think that's happened recently. There are usually more pressing matters for homeowners to worry about. People are still moving to Florida despite sinkholes and floods.
@@TheShaverGroup More pressing matters? I think buying a house in a proven flash flood zone and the risk of a home being swallowed up along with insurance companies abandoning the Florida market by the drives are very pressing matters to consider during home purchasing. The houses are not truly worth the inflated prices that the homes are advertised for either.
Yes, more pressing matters like the cost of insurance and hurricanes. You might want to check out our video "What is Flood Zone X in Florida? | What you should know before buying real estate in Florida!" ua-cam.com/video/ctdSE9C0pVI/v-deo.htmlsi=NmTDyRqLpfmkdMVO . I haven't done a video on sink holes, I'll have to think about that! Thank you for your comments.
You left out our super high taxes here in the city limits, it’s crazy high. My taxes are higher here then they were in Lake Mary. And we don’t get much for our money either.
Yes that's true. I mention in one of my other videos, Volusia county has one of the highest tax rates in the state. Add Deltona city taxes to that and it gets pricey. At least the real estate is less expensive than Lake Mary and many neighborhoods don't have HOA fees.
I live in Deltona, it is a bedroom community. Lived in DeLand for 8 years - I liked it except for Bike Week and Stetson kids. Navigation is nuts here - the same streets intersect twice based on all the lakes. I like it here, great wildlife, pretty peaceful. You're gonna have to worry about bugs anywhere in FL😀
Apparently the street layout in Deltona was a conscious choice by the Mackle Brothers who started Deltona. They wanted it to have the 'feel' of a subdivision!
Long-term Deltona resident that remembers Saxon as a 2-lane road the entire length and the highway exit being built. 1. Agree on nothing to do. There's legit nothing to do in Deltona right now. Which can be a good thing when compared with how rowdy Orlando is if you like the quiet life. 2. Agree on no real jobs, though technology WFH jobs are perfect for Deltona. 3. Agree on the horrible road layout, and that was by design by the Mackle Brothers. And even long-term residents like myself use GPS to get around to the more unfamiliar streets. 4. Agree on weather, though this applies to the entirety of Central Florida. Afternoon thunderstorms are a thing for us that you just learn to live with along with the heat/humidity. 5. Disagree on hurricanes, and mainly because your examples, while devastating in good portions of the state, weren't as damaging in Deltona despite what the media portrayed it as. Most of the 2004 damage was due to incredibly bad planning by the utilities and city, as well as lax building codes that run throughout Florida. This is one advantage of older Mackle Brothers and Serkin homes, they're solid concrete block houses that may have had roof damage but otherwise survived intact. Later ICI and DR Horton stick-frame houses are the ones that were blown away. Say what you will about the 1960s and 1970s cookie cutter houses, they're still solid and have survived everything Florida has thrown at them. 6. Agree on the schools, and in general this is going to be true throughout Florida. Having worked for the Seminole school system, it is better than Volusia, but it's still hamstrung by political-based decisions on curriculum. Thankfully the local area does have a rich availability of homeschool options if that's more attractive to residents. Prospective residents should also be aware of the ability to transfer schools if the chosen school has room. It's a paperwork-laden hell, and you become responsible for transportation, but it's a huge benefit not widely known/advertised. 7. Oh god, agree on bugs. A pest control company is a requirement. Alligators are a definite problem in the waterfront properties, and snakes are present everywhere. Highly suggest getting a good guide on Florida snakes, because some (like black racers) are actually good to leave alone, especially if you're in a community with 1 or more abandoned homes.
*Correction: Most of Deltona's homes were built on 1/4 acre lots.

@@TheShaverGroup I only pay $895 a year for taxes!
@@bigwill6089 That's great! You must have been here awhile and have exemptions.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Deltona is definitely a mix of good and bad.
Do you have a company FB page? We're interested in possibly relocating to the area
Yes we do. facebook.com/theshavergroup

Interesting. I thought it might be because the had to go around all the lakes.
Very good presentation! James Deagle
Thank you. Glad you liked it!
We used to have Lightning bugs but like 5 years ago they were all killed due to pesticides!
We still have some. Blue Spring State Park has firefly nights in the spring!
I live at the borderline of Lake Helen and they are all gone! A damn shame!
Noooo! Please dont move here. Its already too cramped and busy! Buzz off!
The traffic can get frustrating!!!
