    We've lived in Deland for 12 years now. We moved from Tallahassee and being in the military, we've been to a lot of places. It certainly isn't for someone who is looking for a big social scene, but if you have a young family or are older, it's not that bad. Like most places there are shady areas (southwestern part), but overall it's not terrible compared to bigger or comparable cities. We've yet to have any cockroach issues, however we had our home built in 2014 so we don't have any large mature trees around us. The schools in Deland and Volusia are not the greatest, but there are other options in the form of charter and private schools. I personally like it because it has a small town feel yet is accessible to the beach and Orlando. Good restaurants are rather limited. The one thing I would caution is anyone moving around here is to avoid Deltona. Schools are relatively very bad and the layout of the city is pure random urban sprawl with zero character. Makes me visually sick to my stomach just driving through it.

      Roundabouts are supposed to be safer than traffic lights by slowing down traffic. Unfortunately many drivers don't know how to use them.

    This is very helpful! I prefer to know what I am actually getting into before I go somewhere. Most of these 'cons' are really positives in my eyes, or something I am already used to in my home state of Texas. Thanks :)

    I’ve heard that Sunrail built a station in Deland and it’s opening in July? Is that still happening?
    I rode the sun rail train from Orlando to Winter Park and then to Sanford and I really enjoyed it. It’s not a fancy train just a commuter train, but I enjoyed not having to drive in the traffic.
    Also, if the station does open in Deland, I noticed it’s not in the downtown area and too far to walk, will they have the shuttle from the station to the downtown area like they do in Sanford? I’m actually thinking of moving perhaps to Sanford or Deland but still researching

    • @TheShaverGroup
      @TheShaverGroup  6 місяців тому

      Yes, the new Deland Sunrail station is supposed to open this summer. I hope they have a shuttle, they'll need it, but I haven't heard anything yet.

    The traffic is getting very congested from 7 years ago. Not alot of restaurants here either. To go shopping you have to go to Daytona or Orlando.

      Yes it is. Unfortunately all the small towns around here have pretty much the same problem. What stores would you like to have closer?

      I love DeLand. The palmetto bugs are everywhere in Florida. Sometimes they come in from outside when there's been alot of rain and their size can shock people new to Florida! (speaking from experience more than 30 years ago)

      @@TheShaverGroup I live near Ocalla and we have those bugs also. Thankfully, my cats spot the big garden ones when they come in so I can smash them with my shoe.

    this video is about florida. not deland. frankly you just sound (obviously) like you don’t want people moving here. which is whatever, but you’re real obvious. please don’t talk about the difficulties in dealing with hurricanes that far inland when people on the barrier islands lose everything and then can’t afford to rebuild.

    • @TheShaverGroup
      @TheShaverGroup  7 місяців тому +1

      As I mention in the video, I love DeLand! I was going for a different perspective, especially for people considering moving here from out of state. Yes, hurricanes are not as severe here but power outages and flooding (street and river) do happen. I don't mean to diminish the problems of hurricane damage prone areas, I was just letting people know what to expect in DeLand.
