  • This is The Sex Pistols Live at Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas, TX. Tuesday, January 10, 1978 Pt.1
    Actually this show starts with the song "God Save The Queen" but begins to be filmed in 'EMI', there is some footage of the early songs, TV programs made by reporting the show, but not completely recorded.
    With these others are not cut.
    Set List:
    God Save the Queen-no recording
    I Wanna Be Me-no recording
    Seventeen-no recording
    New York-no recording
    EMI
    Bodies
    Belsen Was a Gas
    Holidays in the Sun
    No Feelings
    Problems
    Pretty Vacant
    Anarchy in the U.S.A.
    No Fun
    "They said no one could be more bizarre than Alice Cooper, or more destructive than Kiss... they have not seen the Sex Pistols. Tuesday night, Stone City Attractions presents live, the Sex Pistols. Banned in their own home country, England's Sex Pistols, denied admittance to the United States, the Sex Pistols bring the new wave to the Metroplex this Tuesday night, in the Longhorn Ballroom. They said it couldn't happen, but it happens Tuesday night: the Sex Pistols, live." - Radio promo
    By this point in the tour, Sid Vicious, the least talented member of the band, was receiving most of the attention onstage. Other members of the band were getting fed up with his narcissistic attitude. Before the show, Steve threatened to punch him for focusing on himself and not the music. Sid hit the bottle hard before the show tonight. Being in Texas once again, he and Johnny found it appropriate to mock the "cowboys" in attendance. About half of the 1,800 in the crowd were fans, and the other half were country & western fans defending their territory against these British punks. There were also about 100 police on hand.
    Tonight's performance was more of a circus than a rock show, a love-fest compared to the volatile San Antonio show. John wore an ugly pink shirt and a black glove for most of the show, while Steve wore all black, including boots, spurs, and a sheriff's star. With "Gimme a Fix" on his bare chest, Sid barely played his bass and seemed more interested in jumping around instead of performing music. Plastic cups and other assorted objects flew toward the stage for the duration of the performance. (No glass bottles were sold.) The show was all about spectacle; music was secondary.
    At the end of "Holidays in the Sun," Sid got head-butted by a overzealous fan and received a bloody nose. Instead of wiping up the mess, he let the blood flow down his body, smearing it on his face and spitting it into the crowd. Johnny remarked, "Look at that... a living circus." During "Pretty Vacant," Sid took a broken bottle and vehemently carved his chest. Iggy would've been proud. He removed the pus-soaked bandage from his arm and threw it into the hapless crowd. The other band members continued the show. Although he contributed next to nothing musically, Sid knew he was stealing Johnny Rotten's limelight, which was more important to him at that point.
    After a blistering version of "Anarchy in the U.S.A.," the band left the stage, and, surprisingly, the crowd yelled for more. As the band reappeared for an encore, Sid showed the audience an obscene gesture and Steve yelled, "You must be mad to want more of us!" In the middle of "No Fun," Steve confronted a heckler by throwing a couple punches and jabbing him with the headstock of his guitar.
    The next morning, the Dallas newspaper read: "Most of the people last night came to see the people who came to see the Sex Pistols."

    John Lydon was written off as a yob by the 1970's class-ridden press.....he was rather bright. History has proved that.

    When EMI dropped Mariah Carey after the "Glitter" fiasco, I took the time to write her a fan letter, suggesting that she sing a cover of the Pistols' "EMI" to restart her career. She didn't write back.

It's nice to hear of a musician who actually is influenced by Sid's bass playing. And he COULD sing- and i'm a classically trained singer, so I know. Besides that he had a great stage presence and theatrical aspect to his singing. * ))

    • @danielscissorhands
      @danielscissorhands 8 років тому

      You're joking right? Sex Pistols were a manufactured punk band, unlike the Clash. And the Pistols only had one album. I love both bands, but The Clash were much more talented and genuine. Yes, Joe Strummer came from an upper middle class family, and he changed his style a few times, but they were still the real thing, and all of their albums were great except for Combat Rock and Cut the Crap. But Combat Rock had some great songs and Cut The Crap, even without Mick and Topper could have been great if Bernie Rhodes hadn't screwed up the production and used a drum machine.

    • @Captain_Rhodes
      @Captain_Rhodes 8 років тому +6

      danielscissorhands I respect the clash as songwriters and musicians. They are a good band. I always found the sex pistols weird and challenging. you can say they were manufactured in a sense but they didnt have songwriters and noone could manufacture a band like that. I think the sex pistols are more than just a good band. they epitomise an era and a frustration that the clash never did for me. to me the clash sound like they are trying to be part of a scene but the pistols were creating it

      Not true, urban myth. He was on many of the tracks and learned the instrument quickly. He was just too doped up to do it well. But none of them play well, which is the point of the band. It's fun. And Sid was fun. No Sid, no Sex Pistols.

    The Sex pistols were'nt about playing music proficiently. It was about getting in your/their face. Making you FEEL. Punk was about attitude. Pissing off your parents. Getting the knee-jerk reaction. Being REAL. So what if Johhny Rotten was a crummy singer, and Sid couln't play any instrument well. They came across exactly the way they should. Raw, genuine, antagonistic, anti-anything, don't take them home to dinner REAL!! PISS OFF!!!

    only The clash (London calling's album) surpassed the sex pistols masterpiece!
    in punk's world.

      Nah nevermind the bollocks is the ultimate punk record. London calling isn't a punk record, that's just media manipulation of facts. Punk was already dead in 1978.

    I'm sure I've heard versions of this with some bass involved however thin it sounded. Is this just a bad audio rip? Or am I wrong and no such version exists?...because of sid not being plugged in or had his nobs turned down or wotnot?...or even could there be a version with post production bass added later that I heard? Because that seems to happen way too much these days! virtually every single live version of the Beatles at any venue you can name that got recorded has post produced audio, often because of audience noise etc. but I don't think there's any real raw live Beatle audio with video that's original. Let's face it, unless the venue is prepared for live recording and you see all the mics at the amps then it's unlikely that without some grand clean up post production crew it's going to be completely unlistenable!!
