Vivienne Westwood recommended Malcolm McLaren try out a young lad named John as singer for his new band. McLaren auditioned Lydon (Rotten) and the rest is history. When Westwood saw Lydon she told McLaren that he wasn't the John she meant, she meant John Ritchie (Vicious). Also Sid was invited to audition for The Damned but he didn't show and Dave Vanian got the job. Sid had a deep resentment towards Vanian there after. Probably why Sid threw the glass at The Damned at the 100 Club that missed, shattered and blinded a young girl in her eye.

@exploremagic23 Good decision, two very influential bands. For me, it was Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, but I found my way around. When you think about it, all the great bands had such a unique sound, they were able to transcend genre. The Sex Pistols are certainly included on that list. We need another kick-ass movement.
AHH that hits the spot. Sid was valuable as a hype man just like flavor flav was. I bet when the ramones were just starting out and joey was on drums they were like he is usless but today we all know he was the soul of that band just like sid was to his the face of the generation type thing. @mccann444 You're sadly mistakened, lad. I agree with you about Sid being a second frontman, but he couldn't play bass worth a shit. Everyone agrees on that, I'm sure. Glenn Matlock, on the other hand, was a founding member, really contributed to the sound that shocked the world. He deserves to be a part of the re-union.
superb concert, id have shaved my grannys beard to be there, sex pistols arrival shook music to its foundations, this is my fave track from this gig along with belsen, what a shame about the break up,so much potential, my reckoning is they should have had a fifth member,to play bass,,,cme lead, then steve jones decided he wanted to be a member of "the def leppard club",not that they are bad
I don't know why people were so down on their musicianship. This isn't far off from Chicago blues song structure technically speaking, granted revved up a bit and with half the soloing. Solid riffs clean turn arounds though, a surprisingly solid band.

John and Steve really get this song together during and after the guitar solo. As Steve plays the solo John gets right into it, quick look at Steve before it ends and off they go. And without any bass! Gives an insight to how good they were. With Glen there could have even been a second album when it would have really mattered?
that is very good, I was wondering if it is overdubbed, I kind of doubt it because Sid's backing vocals would have been turned down, or OFF, Jones guitaring is top class, better than just about anyone at times (if you like real rock guitar sounds) Gilmore-stuff him, Clapton-Steve is god, Cooks drumming is loose and not twisted up and it flows with no gaps and great cymbals, JR's vocals are clear and sharp, Sid is thumping out a bass line most of the time, should have turned his mic off and not told him, the pistols were either a shambles on stage or magnificent,

Well......he right about the first bit anyway.
Everything that he said in this was true he wasn't talented but over time Sex Pistols lost some of their "punk"
Bollocks, he was an absolute waste of space.

Only Lydon and Matlock remained relevant.
