      Thing about many punk bands is that they were good musicians, could play well, and HARD.
      Had no gear, had to be tight or else no one would listen.
      Steve played all guitars and most bass on NMTB and his playing is razor tight.
      He and Paul had played since high school and were tight as could be.
      May never play again but if you get the chance go. They are MUCH better live than they were in 77.
      Although Steve uses Marshall backline now and that's not the sound on the lp.
      The hype is deserved with them. One perfect album that changed the culture.
      Seen any blue or red or pink or yellow hair on a young person lately? Exactly.
      Guess whose idea that was?
      Exactly.
      In 1976.

    Weird comments on here. Of course the man’s voice is going to change after 20 years!! The guy never took singing lessons in the late 70s at the sex pistols high when they were all like 20 years old. Singers develop overtime, and he did that with PiL.

    • @AlexanderLaurence
      @AlexanderLaurence  2 роки тому

      I think people have noted that the style of singing on this song is more like PIL than the Sex Pistols. They are not talking about his voice tone. John Lydon is a shouter, not a singer (who may not be able to hit the high notes later in life). Do you know they difference?

    • @Monchi2006

    As the vocal cords lose their pliability, singers give up control over the top of their range and the voice tends to drop, finding little zones of persistent elasticity. Lower pitches vibrate more sluggishly and require less air pressure, which is why years of cigarettes have turned Joni Mitchell’s once radiant, gymnastic voice into a rutted grumble. Some singers figure out how to use the vocal version of gravity to their advantage. In the late 1960s, Plácido Domingo emerged as a lyric tenor with a bronzed tone and a killer high B. Over the years, he has forged into heavier dramatic roles like Verdi’s Otello and Siegmund in Wagner’s Die Walküre.

    When I was growing up in the 70's because of not much media coverage mostly word of mouth ..I'd heard of Sid vicious and I had the image of him as the front man for the sex pistols .I'd vaguely heard of Johnny rotton but he was portrayed as not as important as Sid..if was only when I got much older that I learnt that Johnny rotton was the front man and singer .I was so disappointed that it was not Sid ...but now I've got use to Johnny and he is a great front man and heart beat of the group

      Actually there was a lot of coverage about punk rock in Circus Magazine, Creem, and Rolling Stone. TV news did a lot of "Punk Rock reports". You can search these on youtube. Sid Vicious couldn't play worth and damn, and has little to do with it. Los Angeles had the biggest punk rock scene by 1980 and nobody cared about that loser.

    Listening to this, it's a well crafted song. The whole punk ethos was based on cultural revolution, anti-establishment, etc., but when it came down to brass tacks the rock songs the Pistols wrote were well-crafted gems, and this track is an example. Clever, catchy words, sing-a-long choruses, monster guitar chord riffs -- and it kicks ass.
