That woman had a blessed life for sure. I can't imagine spending that much time with a living Legend, and Lucy is by far the Best Comedic Legend of all Time.
This is yet another example of who the real Lucille Ball was. Everyone who had even the briefest contact with Lucy has said how genuinely nice she was to anyone she dealt with. I think it must be because she had to deal with so many tough problems growing up and really until she was 40 years old. So then when she so quickly became such a huge superstar she couldn't forget how tough life had been just a few years earlier!
Regarding some of the comments- There was not one bad book written about Lucy ever from friends, family or people that worked with her. She was never known to have thrown temper tantrums, explode on the sets or fire people on the sets like a diva and she was never known to make unreasonable demands on people She was only known to be frank and to the point about what she wanted and how she wanted it done and she listened to peoples opinions. She always stated she was a learner and wanted to know everything. She appreciated peoples imputes and creative ideas. Lucy has even stated that one of the things she lived by was to always be grateful to everyone that has given you a chance at something . She never regretted anything good or bad that gave her opportunities and was alway grateful for them. She even remained friends with Desi for years and always gave him the credit he deserved because she was not a vindictive person like many think. People forget what she had to put up with from Desi for many years his with his drinking and his philandering and he never forgot that she still stood by him and has always given her the credit in many interviews over and over .The whole myth of Her being a bitch Diva is ridiculous. End of story
People simply don't appreciate when you have your "own mind" even more so if you are a women. You will be called by adjectives such as demanding, stubborn, rough, arrogant, egoistic, diva etc. This is still the case for many around the world today, imagine what it would have been like in the 40s, 50s, 60s. This is one of the reasons why I really admire and appreciate Lucy and Desi. They were both way ahead of their time. In a time when racism and sexism was the norm, They were a corner stone in each other's careers. They were able to recognize, appreciate and respect the skill, talent and brilliance in each other before most others did and they helped each other shine. And their ardent support for each other continued till the very end. I have never seen them speak negatively about each other and they knew each other the best, the good, the flaws and everything inbetween.
Absolutely not true. The Lucy Book has anecdotes from guest stars, family members, and cast and crew. Overall, people respected her, but Lucy could be an impatient and insensitive bully. The book isn't bad, but it paints a more accurate picture of what it was like.
Loved this just as I love Lucy. No pun intended. I hope she knows how blessed she was to be a part of the greatest comedy ever. I would love to see more of her stories about Lucy. Please do more.....Thank you for this.
Idk why , but your Wanda Clark videos are coming up on my feed . I had forgotten a lot them & then found this little gem . I don’t know how I missed it, but I had never seen this one before. Super awesome !
Thanks for posting this. Lucy was one of those people I would have loved to have met, even if it were for only 2 minutes. She made me laugh in some of my darkest moments growing up. She was one of a kind. Randy McDaniels
I Really Love Lucy I miss her so much everyday I wish you was here but I know she's better off there. I love everything you show about her I believe it she made me laugh and she makes me cry it's all because I miss her so much God bless
most loyal ,affectionate employee one could hope to have ,kudos to Wanda Clark for not dishing the dirt on our beloved Lucy by writing books that could have earned her millions and also the eternal gratitude of her daughter Lucie Arnaz ,who encourages anyone who shows an interest in writing derogatory stories about her mother. She gave Lee Tannen the go ahead to write a semi fictional book "warts and all" and to the" the being the ricardos" director Aaron Sorkin she ordered "take the gloves oo ,she was a difficult woman"
I haven't watched much Lucy Show, only a little bit. I Love Lucy is better & funnier. Desi Arnaz made I Love Lucy more funny because some episodes were his ideas, so he was the brains. Lucy was very beautiful. I love her & Desi Arnaz together.
The scene at the end is from the wrap party when Life With Lucy ended. The party was in 1986, I believe, and it was held at the home of Jenny Lewis, who played Lucy's granddaughter on the show. Jenny is now a popular singer.
That’s nice ,can I ask why that is the thumbnail ???? I was interested in hearing him talk about this subject and now I am seeing her secretary talk about her ???? Misleading and now I am not watching this …
The only people who really loved Lucille Ball and helped her to be her best were these loyal helpers she was surrounded with till the last...her driver Frank Gorey, her maid Harriet ,her hairstylist Irma ,and most of all her secretary Wanda Clark ,who was like a wonder woman while efficiently doing everything that made life easy for the aging Ball None of these people wrote salacious books about her to earn money ,and never had anything but good things to say about her ,as opposed to her own daughter Lucie Arnaz who has nothing but grudges and resentment against a mother who has probably left her enough money for her several generations😮
One must understand that it was Desi and not Lucy who took care of running the day- to- day business while they were married. After the divorce, Desi sold his shares of Desilu to Lucy who then had the extra burden of not only performing on her TV show, but running a multi-million dollar company; the same company that gave TV viewers such shows as "The Untouchables", "Star Trek" and a host of others. Lucy was a perfectionist but so what? How many male actors are also perfectionists ?
I had read that she was difficult on her sets after i love Lucy because of the slow ending of her marriage to Desi. The stress of running Desilu caused his drinking habit and his infidelities increased which everyone now knew about. It was embarrassing. She was bitter about the end of a marriage that was an institution to all all the world of entertainment. They were forever bonded because of it. She never got the marriage and happiness that the Ricardos had.
Donna Smith, I wasn’t there for it all, but I’d argue that he alone was responsible for his drinking problem. But, yes, as a couple, they were a staple of Hollywood.
Again I Love Lucy and when she went on to next world I don't want to say it it was a black day I think it was a Friday they have to put the flags down because this woman is everything everything from the time she started 2 yen people did not appreciate her a series new they were she got very depressed about that she said they critique this show and it's okay but me they don't want me that hurted her and I bet sign she was going very depressed just before she fast I get I heard that they threw a party for the last show that she remade and some people remember Lucille Ball walking walking and like depressed she was walking by herself thinking and then to top it off when she heard that Desi Arnaz senior have passed away too much just like when a friend Vivian Vance passed on she went to complain where is she was at social events and she still would Hudson last hope you haven't talkin about all days and then her ex-husband's Dad how Mother's Day honey new series Death what else I feel so bad they should have that in the calendar is everywhere Lucille Ball day because when she did no no one has come close and being Lucy
Who could watch it on MeTv if the wanted too. Every five minutes they are off to commercials for five minutes. And the most horrible commercials ever. In an hour of MeTv you will learn you need a hundred medications ( but look at how they will fix your life),, then you learn you need to sue because you took the meds, then you will die without enough money for your family to bury you.."Why would you buy life insurance anywhere else" a thousand times. They cut shows to pieces for more room for commercials, including every other one for themselves. Then Saved By The Bell is E/I? How? What a bunch of garbage only the senile could sit through. Doing for classic television what the rich have done to our country; destroying it. Ruined it with their greed. Half the ads would have been illegal when I was a kid. Brainwashing nonsense and I specifically never buy anything they advertise.
Hi! Thank you for commenting! This video was made in the early Spring of 2016. The Professor I had in the class this was made for still shows this video to new students of his class as an example. Wanda actually came to my University and spoke to the class when I was still a student. I have to say that most of my classmates were too young to appreciate the experience, but I bet their parents and grandparents would have definitely taken it all in. As for Wanda, she is a very charming, sweet person. She has so many stories with different celebrities from those days. And, she was more than happy to be the subject of my video, and very helpful providing materials to make it what it is. I'm considering asking her to do another video post-Lucy:)
@@timstephensproductions120 What a fantastic video Tim! The content, the videography - everything was just great. Wanda seems like a wonderful peson and she is such a good storyteller. Thank you for posting this!
@@timstephensproductions120 This was excellent. Thank you for sharing. I am now 66 and have "Loved Lucy" for many, many years. As often as I have seen each episode and the episodes of the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, she, Desi, Ethel, and Fred still make me laugh. Whenever I am fown in the dumps, into the DVD player goes I Love Lucy. I have all the episodes, and now the colorized DVD set. Several years ago my mom (and my mom who will always be my very best friend) travelled to Jamestown, NY to attend the Lucy Birthday celebration. We live in upstate NY near Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame (loved the episode with Lucy and Bob Hope). We had such an enjoyable time we stayed an extra day. We wanted to see everything we could before heading back to Oneonta. Ric Wyman (the director of the Lucy Desi Museum and others), was such a nice young man. Very knowledgeable and extremely personable. There were so many events to attend, and so much to see and do. We also met authors, friends, stars, and a wonderful staff and other visitors from all over the country. The Lucy and Ethel impersonators were amazing. If you closed your eyes. you would think Lucy and Bibian were right next to you. We also met Robert Osborne, Turner Classic Movies, and several others . I had wanted to attend the festival for so very long. and mom and I decided to make it happen.. My mom had such a wonderful time. We were going to go to another celebration. But mom fell and we had to cancel our trip. I will always remember the journey to Jamestown, and how enjoyable it was. I hope someday to return, and I know my mom will be looking at me from Heaven and will be smiling.
I love Lucy but she never should have done Mame. I saw the stage show with Angela Landsbury and she was Mame. Of course, this is subjective and we all have our own.
She could type faster if she didn't let her fingers fly off the keys as much. Economy of motion. It's a concept musicians use to play fast. Just sayin'. But other than that, interesting video!
So the secretary says that everyone was just so nice.nice nice...I don't believe it. In fact, both Jack Benny and Richard Burton who did guest spots on Here's Lucy say that Lucy was a bitch! Jack Benny went so far as to say that Lucy needed psychological help as she was so bitchy and bossy on the set. Dezi couldn't stand her in the end. No wonder Lucy and her second husband needed to take separate vacations every year!
FRANKPORTO: I don't really mind being called a fuck head (I've been called worse) but Jack Benny stated this in an interview he gave for a book. Richard Burton also verified Lucille's behavior when he worked with her on the show. Sorry.
That is what I always heard that she was almost impossible to work with as her ego was so huge. Desi was actually the power behind the show "I love Lucy" and he actually had most of the talent. She was also a terrible parent. Just what I have heard and read.
If he had most of the talent, how is it she could go on without him and reach even greater success than they had already reached? She always gave him full credit for what he did and defended him when others criticized him. He did the same for her. Terrible parent? That is not what her daughter has said - I've seen several interviews she has given. It's a shame anyone feels the necessity to tear down others who are successful. Each person would be so much better off in his/her own life building up others. Unless one can do all that she did and do it as well, perhaps it's best not to say much except to acknowledge her success. She certainly had the drive, the talent, and the ambition that the ordinary person cannot come close to having.
She was on camera being interviewed. It may have made her much less nervous and more relaxed to pet her dog. How does it even matter if she did or didn't - it takes nothing from what she had to say.
What a blessing to have these kinds of memories. It must’ve been a blast.
