Todd, I could listen to both you and Brandon talk all day long. It is fascinating to hear him tell the stories of his family. Not many people are able to do this.
That looks like Paradise. Can you imagine, 200 years ago, walking through those fields barefooted, with a cane pole to go catch a couple of fish for dinner? Beautiful. I can’t wait to see what you find there!
Oh Todd, the most beautiful location you have ever been at. Such peace and tranquility at the cemetery. Brandon it was worth your efforts adding the fence and beautiful gate. Todd, you found several homestead locations. I loved the pond. I am anxious for you to return to find relics and artifacts for the Bowers.❤️👍👍👏👏
I, too, love Todd's music selections. Somehow, his music is a perfect reflection for the scenery around him in the video. This has been the case for just about every video of his I have seen.
Yes, Autumn is the most beautiful time in the mountains! And that is one beautiful property! I was hoping you'd open a couple of the persimmon pits to see what the upcoming winter would be.😊
Wow just wow. I love how you weaved history of the Hessian into this episode and the Heischman family. I miss those walks in the woods at fall. Surreal
Todd, that old road that you came across will be an excellent place to swing the coil, especially close to the buildings you found. What a nice location. The starter homes are some of the best spots I have found on old colonial sites.
OMG! It has been sooo long since I've seen the leaf colors of Fall. Being from Virginia, and having lived the last 20 years in South Texas, makes me so happy to seeing the colors. We don't get that down here. This video made me homesick. This gentleman who showed you the old homestead was great in sharing this with you. Thank you again, for sharing your vlogs with us.
Thank you Todd and Thank You, Mr. Bower for sharing your heritage with us. That's beautiful country. Todd we had a Persimmon tree down by the brook and boy, after a few times when my tongue curled up and my mouth felt like dry wood, I only ate ripe mushy ones:) Yikes! Cheers, Rik Spector
LOL, yep my pap gave me an unripe one on purpose when I was a kid....the feeling is unlike anything I have experienced with any other thing....the pucker is unique to the persimmon I think but its sweetness is also unique.
I sometimes regret leaving the Shenandoah Valley of West Virginia and Virginia but then I remember why I landed in New Hampshire...spectacular colors of oak, maple, ash, hickory and finding a persimmon tree was the ultimate. God be with you in your endeavors and your search for history. ✌🤲
Yep I agree, NH is gorgeous too. My wife's family lives near Canon Mountain. They originally came in from Canada in the 1700's and still live there in NH/ME border region. We have visited them in the past. Such beautiful places up there.
Maybe one of your best videos and you have a lot of awesome videos. Took me back in time to when I was a kid exploring places in the woods. It was our own peaceful paradise and that farm is paradise
I’ve never eaten a persimmon before. We don’t have them down where we live. What a fabulous video. Thanks for the history and stunning place. Fall is beautiful there.
I enjoy watching your videos! I miss living in Kentucky and the Fall days, and going to the old ancestors cemeteries. Now I am back out in Idaho. And I feel like I am there with you looking at the old cemeteries. Thank you.
Living at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia is absolutely gorgeous in the fall, my favorite time of the year! The smell of fall brings peace and warmth to my soul! It seems as though the pioneers moved a lot of those rocks to form walls as they cleared the land! Thank you for this informative and beautiful video! 🍂🍁🧡🍁🍂
Todd, you usually need a good frost of the persimmons. I have two domesticated persimmon trees in my yard. They grow larger than the wild ones. Also, the fox love them.
Your channel is growing and deservedly so. Great content, well researched and a refreshing break from some of those that are a dime a dozen metal detecting channels. Your old buddy's channel seems to have stopped growing and losing viewers like crazy....you know who I'm talking about too.....the best way to defeat them is to succeed....keep moving forward buddy.
Yep we all know who that man is and he is a fraud....can't believe anyone watches his stuff. All he does is yap and look down to others. It's why his channel has been in decline for the last 2 years....keep going AHD.
I do really miss the fall in the mountains. Does Brandon's people still own the land there? I hope some of them do. The cemetery is in such a peaceful setting. But I did find it sad that all those pioneers names are lost to history. I watched some of your older videos last night and saw again the one where you had been in Kandahar and younhoise burned. Of course I cried again but I'm so happy your wife when children were ok. Thank you for your service and sacrifice and tell your wife and children thanks too. They sacrifice just as much as the ones who have to go overseas. My nephew has been blessed with a wonderful wife who has dealt with his service for 20 yrs. She said they retirednthise year and she is finally at peace because he's home for good now. He's really enjoying it too. He also has a grandson and I find that hard to believe. Merry Christmas and a blessed new year to you and your family
You could not have picked a prettier day to explore the area. The trees are really showing off their best colors. The Appalachian Mountains are the best!
Hello from Knoxville my friend. I love walking around places like that it’s so peaceful. I remember walking with my grandma out in Powell Tennessee as a boy. I wish I had those days back. Stay safe have a Merry Christmas and say hello to your family for me.
I love Todd’s videos where He respects and pays tribute to the people and history behind the properties he detects. It’s not only Interesting but important we remember! Like the fact on how many German’s settled here. I always learn something new. Too many people today make uninformed assumptions and Ignore the real Facts.
Todd, do you know how much a walk through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains means to flatlanders like me, especially in peak of fall colors. Son, it was a most beautiful tour of an awesome site to uncover history. The family will see relics, coins, and artifacts once used and cherished by their ancestors. Powerful for us, powerful for the family, and powerful for your channel. Son, keep up your adventures that brings the past alive.
Really enjoyed this video love history and seeing the old photographs if I may ask why was the house removed from property I didn’t see any remains of the house that was close to pond wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas God Bless…Virgil
Hey Virgil the Bowers Settlement is a long way from any public places and very hard to get too. The family sold in the 1950's. The new owners were out of state, and tore it down due to vandalism. The Bowers children grew up and now wish they owned the place. It is an heirloom lost to them and they are rightfully sad about it. They are allowed to visit any time, have keys to the gates, and keep up the cemetery. The other building sites though, no one alive in the Bowers family were aware of them or know if they might be the older cabin sites. Merry Christmas to you as well!!!
Yes. The video is forthcoming. I really need to go back in the Fall vice the Spring though as the vegetation was a challenge nearly impossible to overcome.
@@AppalachianHistoryDetectives yay!!!! I’m excited to see what’s there. I’ve watched every video you have multiples times 😂😂😂😂😂😂 my favorite channel on UA-cam for sure!!
Love your channel, and your content is unique....too many metal detecting channels any more and none with context. Plug and artifact...yawn. Your channel is a break from all of those and I appreciate the work you put into it. And I second what Digger Dan says below....that other guy....well his channel hasn't grown for more than a year....and now going in reverse....we all know his type anyway so just keep producing top notch content.
I hope you enjoy this adventure with Brandon as we step back in time to explore the old Bowers Settlement and uncover house sites unknown to him.
What a beautiful land!!!
Thank you for doing this Todd. It was great to be out there with you!
Todd, I could listen to both you and Brandon talk all day long. It is fascinating to hear him tell the stories of his family. Not many people are able to do this.
Thank you Brandon for reaching out to Todd to feature this beautiful place. Such a somber yet stunning place.
So many emotions felt with this video Todd. Somber, Tranquil, peaceful, taste, smell and visually stunning. Loved it.

Leaning On the Everlasting Arms, is a beautiful hymn.
Superb. Visually beautiful and what a place to live. Brandon’s family sure had a slice of paradise. The Fall colors are stunning
Thanks for adding the music links, I was able to find the hymn that I found to be so special.

Do you think the early cabins would have cellar holes?
I don't know really....not real common in these parts.
My husband's ancestor was a Hessian and he switched sides.
Could be a marker for the road opening.
