I always loved Charles Town...where I was an extra in scene 19 when Robert E. Lee addressed the Virginia congress when he accepted the task of leading the Army of the Potomac in the Civil War. The Jefferson County courthouse was used to recreate the state house in Richmond, VA.

Now, this is what true metal detecting is all about. Finds are not evaluated by the material value, but by the more important historical value. Material things come and go, but historical value only increases with age.
These finds that Todd, Scott, Bill and Robert, made on this day will now forever live in the museum for the next generation of history lovers to enjoy.
My hat is off to this team of dedicated preserver's of American history. I might add a history whose story is known only by a few; however, with these digs and the upcoming museum, a story which many more will have an opportunity to learn.

Thanks Tom. This outing was a memorable experience, full of laughs and comradery. Sometimes the value is in the experience.....and the site was just added bonus.

Todd, a fantastic day 2, we can’t wait until you return for more incredible relics and artifacts. As hot and dry as it looked, you guys all did well. Loved the stirrup regardless of the age. The silver button the top find. Your back story and research are the start of amazing adventures. I feel like we are back in the time period. Thank you.❤️😀👏👍

Awesome finds. You never disappoint with the finds or the history. I would love to be able to see the inside of that beautiful old house. I'll be watching for the best part of this adventure. Be careful in the heat. Thank you for another great adventure. God bless and keep you and your family. I hope you have an awesome Christmas.

I normally cut the cussing out but in this case I thought it was funny given the context of this particular day. We always laugh a lot out there but this day was especially humorous. Thanks Lori.

I wonder if there may have been a brothel near that site...or maybe they operated one out of it. Or would that be considered early american smut? Interesting none the less!

I dunno but I have seen 2 of these tokens since....others have found them too....I can't say publicly what I was told though as it is an interesting time in American history.....

Is it 34 or 46? Cause 46 would be braided!!! It looked matron. Maybe you just put the wrong date up there.

I wish we could have taken the coin home to do some meticulous cleaning. On site it looked like a 1834, but screen grabbing and zooming in it looks like there is a 6 at the end.
