I have an elderly neighbor ....Mrs. Walker ...who is age 95.
She recently became ill and was told that her colon cancer was back.
On her death bed for two months.
Then...
She got up and said that she needed to walk!
Day after day she became stronger.
Today she is back to her usual daily activities and doing well.
Strong people those Walkers!
Praise God, prayers for her❤
I am a Walker born and bred, and yes we are strong people.
Wow, 😁😁, that is beautiful🌻🌻🌻
My grandmother who we called Tyanne *pronounced tiny" lived to be 102! My other 98. Amazing women both!
Inspiring. Thank you!
My great grandmother, also a Walker, was their cousin. Those ladies had grit.
Hi Im from Australia and I have a big family of 1 boy and 7 girls living And 2 babys deceased. I just happened to Start watching about the Walker sisters which I founcomfit in the story especially today because my sister is in hospital and she is passing away as I write this and I can't get to her we have only lost our father and that was hard and now it's the oldest sister my big sister who introduced me to music and I was 4 when she introduced barbra Streisands music and we grew up poor but we had each other and soooooooo many memories so thank you for this story and introducing me to the Walker sisters ❤
May you find more comfort than sadness in the sad days ahead as you remember the times you enjoyed together. Your sister would probably prefer to be remembered with those tender and maybe even funny memories than sad ones. May God bless you and comfort you with His presence.
Yes Lisa, 🌹remember the happy times. I’ve lost all my family , even my son, except for my sister. It gets pretty lonely 🙏🙏🙏
Well my parents were not quite as prolific , with only 5 children, of which I am the oldest. We also grew up poor but we didnt really know it, until we were older, and by then we didn't care. Between us all working together, we got by, and thats the way it still is. I am so sorry you are losing your oldest sister. I am 11 years older than my little brother, but we are best friends all of us. Growing up poor makes for close families, and bonds that never break in my opinion. It builds character and stops a person from being self absorbed, because there is seldom time to think of yourself! lol.
I have often thought I am the oldest, good I will pass away first, but we both know life is full of surprises as is death.
I find great comfort in my faith and knowing I will see my loved ones in heaven. I hope you have that comfort as well. We also lost our Dad several years back, and my mom lives with me now, and is getting older. I wish you well my friend, on the other side of this beautiful blue marble. God bless, keep and comfort you all ~ from dawn in the US
Thank you sooo much everyone for your kind words and I also love hearing about other people and their families. And it just shows how it doesn't matter where your from we all experience loss and it all hurts the same no matter what skin colour you are or what country your from or what age you are . I've had a nde so I know how happy she will be because she's home 😉😊🥰
Praying for your sister and you 🙏 ❤
My mom was from Appalachia. I grew up going there and just recently had to sell the last bit of land in the holler to fund my eldest daughter's legal education at Cambridge. She will practice in America and we are DARs. Thank you for showing the beautiful nature of these mountains. The people. My family paved the way for her. She won't forget her heritage.
I wouldn't have sold that last bit of land to send my daughter to college much less the moon..
@@PlatinumIrishrose Her daughter's education was more important than that land.
@@PlatinumIrishrose you sound like not so great of a parent, then.
I’d never sell land. Not ever. There’s other ways to get educated. You’ll never get the land back.
As a Canadian you should have seen how surprised I was to learn I had 2 Mayflower ancestors and my wife has 1 Mayflower ancestor. Ancestry can be an eye opener.
Or it can be a curse. Especially those of us who were of the Blueblood " breeder" sacrificers. 😢
My family came over then too, and were Loyalists during the US Revolutionary War. When they lost the war, they were exported north and the British government gave them land in whats now Ontario. You're likely to be qualified to become a United Empire Loyalist (UEL). 😊❤
@HLBear I have a lot of Loyalist ancestors who settled in the Kingston region of Ontario. Honestly I just need to get all my documentation together and pay the fee.
I never tire of the Walker sisters &.their family. I wish I could have met & talked with them. Thank you for paying tribute to this wonderful family
An amazing story. Beautiful scenery. Leo you are a born story teller. You do such a great job. Your voice is soothing & comforting.❤
Thank you so much 🤗
My great grandparents also got a lifetime lease at their home place in the Shenandoah National Park because they had several disabled children until their home got burned down from what was speculated by jealous or revenge full neighbors. It is so much fun to learn about our people who came before us.
Such resilient, strong ladies! They are definitely a legend to continue. You're sadly right Leo, family doesn't mean what it used to. As always, thank you for the breathtaking views!
You and I must be cousins. I found many of the same people in my tree. I was adopted at birth, since did my DNA, found my birth mother in TN. at my age of 60.
I just imagine how safe they felt together especially getting into those big old beds and talking through the night - love your work guys xxx
One of the sisters was quoted as saying "if it were not for pumpkins we would have starved. "
They lived in the woods. I'm puzzled as to how they wouldve starved with the abundant wildlife, plus they put out a garden.
Actually the story goes, their father was captured and sent to Anderson prison camp during the civil war. He lost 100 lbs during his captivity. If it weren’t for the actions of a farmer who tossed pumpkins over the fence because he felt sorry for the starving prisoners…the Walker sisters wouldn’t have been born…. They were alive due to their father eating the scraps of pumpkins that he managed to hang onto life to later marry after the war ended and have 11 children. All thanks to pumpkins. 😊
Wagon train wife said same thing saved them heading west on the Oregon Trail
@@PossumLady8262 I believe you, but I hate the taste of anything pumpkin.
@@racerx4152 me too!
I had a branch of my family (Morgans) who married into the Walker line. They were also from Tenn, but lived in Kentucky when I was young. 2 of the sisters, were also spinsters. One of them came up to Cincinnati, around the time of the depression, to work for the Gibson Greeting Card Co. She worked for them for many years, until she retired, and went back to their family home to live with her sister... Their names were Nellie, and Stellie... I always heard their names said in that order, and always together...😊
My grandmother of Minnesota had sisters. She was named Jesse. Her older sisters names were Tessie, and Betsy. When I got a toy rabbit for Easter, I named it Tessie Betsy Johnson, after her siblings.
I just happen to cross your story on the Walker sisters and thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me so much of my grandfather‘s family in Brandon Mississippi. without history like this, our children will never know the hardships of people in the past and how easy they have it today. Keep up the good work.
The Walker sisters remind me of my own grandmaw.....
May they all rest in eternal peace 🙏
What a wonderful story of these sisters. I can only imagine what their conversations were as they tilled the land and sat down for dinner. ❤❤❤ God bless them.
Jacob Blair II and Margaret Walker are my 5th great grandparents. I stumbled on this by accident and am going to share this with all the Blair family in Washington state ! Thank you, what a great story of our history!
This is an amazing peaceful place that we had the honor of visiting. Standing on that porch is a magical experience. One I surely will never forget. Y'all honored them beautifully!
I loved, loved, loved walking up to the cabin, rounding the last bend, and being greeted by the springhouse. Beautifull place!
Thank you for sharing this lovely part of your world.
Thank you for this lovely story of America and it's hard working people.
A blessing on your hills and their beauty, and thank you for the history lesson! Apropo of nothing, I found out as a teen that one Charles Townsend, an ancestor citizen of the Commonwealth of Virginia, was hung as a traitor during the War of Independence. All the other Townsends at the time were saying, 'Sit down and Shutupshutupshup, stop defending the king!' But would he listen? Nooooo.
Thank you for sharing that was such a sweet story about some sisters who stayed all together and helped each other and tell their passing thank you so much for sharing I loved it
A Wonderful story well told. You have a Great calming spirit. Blessings
Thank you so much!
My Great Granny was born in Tennessee . She was a Fowler. These women were amazing.

That is so interesting, even now, at 58, loving watching Alfred Hitchcock Movies. Always appreciated his work. It’s been so many years yet now I got some time I love his work. 👍🌻
Thank you Leo, I was captivated by your story but also by the way you told it. You have such a calming relaxed way about you. I’m from Australia and my family and I visited the Great Smoky Mountains
back in the 90’s. We loved it very much and have great memories of the area. I’d so love to visit again. I’ll watch out for more of your stories. ❤🇦🇺
What a beautiful story of these sisters and the whole Walker family. The scenery is magnificent as you say. Thanks for sharing a story
with a voice that seems made for telling a story.
Thank you for a wonderful story and scenery! Lovely.
I absolutely value family. The family I grew up with and the family I raised and now my grandchildren. My husband and I have been married for 42 years. We are very much part of our grandchildren's lives, just as my grandparents were part of mine! The journey has been wonderful!
A beautiful story of love and perseverance. Thank you for sharing, Leo.
Leo, your voice is so pleasant and soothing. Thankyou
Thank you 4 this wonderful story & scenery.❤

Well Sir Leo....thank you for the beautiful scenery and story of some brave and strong women.

Very interesting. Thank you. May they all rest in peace.
I live in East TN and have heard about these ladies all my adult life. Thank you for the brief presentation of this sweet country family. I hope to visit that cabin one day.

I live in the maritimes in Canada ❤
Very interesting story about the sisters. I love your videos and all the stories. Your little giggle always makes me smile. Keep the videos coming :)
Visited their home twice over the years in the Smokies. What a wonderful life they lived.
What a beautiful story, and told so beautifully as well. You have a very soothing voice, and thank you for this sweet story. Amazing family, they accomplished so much!
Leo and Heather, what a wonderful story! I 😢just love hearing these documentaries you tell us. Thank you to the lady who brought this your attention. Take care until we meet here again!!😊
Great story, beautiful ❤ thank you so much I really enjoyed it so much,
My mom was born in NYC, raised in Germany during the Great depression and WWII, helped Jews and American soldiers get out of Germany, went to a displaced person camp that was in bad shape, got typhoid fever, went to US Army hospital in Paris, learned French, made it 🏠 to the US, learned English, and graduated from high school, all by the time she was 18. She grew up in a village in Germany where she herded goats and tended the garden, like many southern people did here.
God bless her...what a woman!
Very nice story. I’ve heard of the Walker sisters before. But you did an excellent job, telling their story.
What a beautiful story and so respectfully told. Beautiful. Gone are the days of what family means and your so right.
Times were so different. Thank you
What a lovely story thank you, the sisters were wonderful. I agree family is important. We should cherish it.
This was truly absolutely fascinating - thank you - I look forward to watching more!!!
What an amazing story and told so warmly and knowledgable .. such incredible women.
That is such a caring story of survival and kindness
The walker family were on my mother's side of the family five brother one sister in Nottingham England they were bomber pilots in the war there sister died in the war they are all buried in stoke on Trent in the church yard and my dear aunt just passed away too god bless them
My great great grand mother was Nancy Walker
Seems like the teachers didn’t pressure the kids to learn more then they could handle back then. Life seem so much harder but kinder then today. Love listening to this story. Thank you! ❤
I love your stories. I moved from Ohio to West Virginia in the 9th grade through college. Some of the best years of my life. I miss the mountains and its people.
Leo, one of my favorite places to go when I lived in Oak Ridge, Tn. in the late 70’s was Cades Cove there past Townsend and Gatlinberg and Sevierville. I loved it out there. I’m from here in Missouri Ozark mountains and also can’t live anywhere where it’s flat! I’m like you! I love this history. The cabins are still in Cades Cove!!
I don’t care for that level land either.
I loved this story and video; very evocative! Although I live far away, one day I hope to walk up the hill to their place and pay my respects.
I love hearing about the family tree of people. Amazing you have went back to the Royals. 🎉
Our research has shown Clark Gable, William Jennings Bryan and Frank & Wyatt Earp. 😂 Crazy!
Beautiful story, well told. Thank you.
Precious is our Herstory! Thank you for all you shared!😊
Leo, I absolutely loved this story, the sisters sounded amazing. I can't imagine living like they did. Keep up the good work, love it ❤❤
Thank you so much for showcasing this amazing family. I am making it a priority to get to the park.
Beautiful story and very interesting, thanks
Beautiful country, and a great story. It is great that the government allowed the sisters to live out their lives there. May they all rest in peace 🙏 Thank you very much Leo and Heather, this was a great video. 😊

Intersting
Your right I have 5 sisters that live close I never see
Beautiful story, Sir Leo! Wish I'd been around to meet the sisters. I'll definitely want to visit the old homestead, if nothing more than to breathe the same air that they thrived on, to feel nature as they did. ❤
As A Damn Yankee From The Great Lake State Of Michigan I Absolutely Loved This Beautiful Story About The Walker Sister's BIG-TIME!!! Shalom And Amen!✝️✝️🛐🛐📛🕊️🕊️🕊️❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥🤰🤱🧬🤰🤱✨👑✨🦁🦁🦁❣️❣️❣️🌺🌺🌺😇🌟🤗🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇮🇱♾️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🦅🗽‼️
I have a sincere question. I am a Southerner and “damn Yankees” is still heard down on the Gulf Coast. Sometimes in jest, sometimes not. So…is there a term y’all use for Southerners who might wind up in your neck of the woods? 🤔🤔👋🏻👋🏻
That’s so pretty up there! ♥️
THANKS FOR THE AMAZING HISTORY OF THE HARD WORKING WALKER SISTERS . GOD BLESS THEM AND THEIR PARENTS AND MAY THEY REST IN PEACE.
Hi Leo...Wow what a very inspirational video..How hard the times were and how family relied on each other..Thank you
What a beautiful video! Thank you Leo and Heather God bless
Even though it is the dead of winter the scenery is beautiful. All of WV is very beautiful. That was a beautiful story Leo. I had heard of the Walker Sisters, but did not know anything about them. I watch appalachianhomestead with patara. Thank you for this lovely story Leo.

What a beautiful place I hope I will get to see it one of these days. I love the story of the Walker sisters incredible women and family. You guys are fast becoming my favorite channel.
VERY cool story. My grandpa was born 1882 and passed in 59', 6 years before I was born. I WISH I could have heard him tell stories about anything. Dad was born in 38', I need to record him on a cassette tape. I have one of my grandmother talking with one of my aunts, I remember her, she was born in 1897. I remember all the card games that got played at the kitchen table on Friday nights LOL. One time they dealt her a royal straight flush while she was using the powder room, the look on her face was hilarious, the laughter that caused. A very fond memory.
Thank you for that beautiful scenery and most importantly the Walker Sisters legacy. God Bless you.
Thanks for sharing the video Leo. I enjoyed it. Beautiful view up there. Y'all take care and God Bless Y'all too.
Fasinating, never knew places like this existed in America. The Walker sisters were such strong women. You are so right family is no longer as important and valued in todays modern world as it was back then. It was similar here in Ireland during that era. Even though they didn't live in the mountains people worked so hard for very little financial reward. It was all about family, nature honesty, decency and belief in God.. A lovely story, very well told .......🇮🇪......
thank you for sharing, I love this.
Wow. What an interesting story. I'll have to put this on my bucket list of places to visit.
That was awesome.. thank you 🌹
I lived in Pigeon Forge for 20 years and visited their cabin regularly. I had a fruit jar in the kitchen for flowers that I took to them.
beautiful history, thanks for sharing. God bless you too
Thank ya for sharing this Wonderful story ✌️❤️
I love the story I’m from south west VA
Amazing family. Thank you for sharing their story.
Imagine living in a time when you had to wait until season to have another fresh picked apple or peach.
Though you didn't have the convinces of year around fresh picked foods, you did have many more things to look forward to in the different seasons.
As minuscule of a pleasure as it seems to us today was likely a grand delight when the season came back around.
your channel soothes me
Great video, guys. Beautiful place.
This is one of those stories that makes you want to go back in time and just talk to these folks. Even though they were just a typical mountain family.
That is the part i miss most about a lot if these dtories and researching my old relatives from Kentucky. Just trying to imagine what they're
daily lives would be.
Thanks for another great story.
God bless ya'll and stay safe on your travels and all it takes researching these stories.
Love this info! And love how jolly he seems. Wish I was naturally as happy as he is. Lol.
Thank you Leo ! I love hearing about the Walker Sisters . I wish I could have met them . They were amazing..Thank you Heather. Love your videos
This is a beautiful story of what should still be done today. Togetherness, living of the land, and no technology should be taught and utilized to serve in the upcoming future. We all are going to need this to serve.
👋 hi from North Alabama 👋 love that view before the fork, reminds me of growing up in Bankhead😢 anyway new subscriber can't wait to listen to your stories! 💚
