for those who are short on time the TLDR version: turn everything OFF in picture settings apart from Cinema Screen. But I have to agree with the creator of this video, i ended with the same settings in the first 2 hours after my new OLED arrived (and that was before i saw this video). Thanks AVForums for confirmation bias :)

Just purchased the 77" C1, first OLED tv I will own, currently have a Vizio M series tv from circa 2014 when led 1080P was the big fuzz, has a whopping 36 active led zones you know?, it's been our family tv through two homes, several military deployments and the entirety of my youngest child lifespan but is now starting to push daisies, guess I got my moneys worth and I finally upgraded to something hopefully more "future proof", can't wait to plug this in and be amazed with the difference for years to come.

Once you get used to the settings, the 'Vivid' mode becomes utterly unwatchable. I am using 'Bright Expert' with some minor tweaks. The picture on my 48" C1 is amazing. The sound? Well, it's not good, especially on the BBC whose sound quality is atrocious, despite using several set-up options.

Is there a PDF or a page where these settings are printed out? I've tried to take notes while watching the video but I think I might be missing something. I just bought an LG OLEDC155PUB and I'd love to fine tune it to relieve the "black crush" in some content. I'd also like to get rid of the ridiculous Home screen ads and at least be able to customize it so my inputs come up at the top and the streaming stations (apps?) are secondary. Other than that it's looking almost as good as my 2008 Panasonic Plasma which I just replaced --- a lot sharper, of course.

How much impact does having the “Motion Eye Care” setting turned on actually have on the quality of the image on screen? I have found myself getting headaches since buying the TV after following your settings and I’m wondering if having this setting turned off has anything to do with it, but i’m worried to turn it on incase it has a big negative impact on the image.

    • @paulcox2447
      @paulcox2447 7 місяців тому

It's the lack of motion smoothing. You need some dejudder. Try putting on on custom and then choose 3-5 depending on taste.
You can go smoother, but just going to 3 gets rid of a lot of the double vision/shaking issues.
For reference cinematic is 2. Natural is 6 and smooth is at 10.

In hdr mode, at 100 oled brightness and contrast, isnt it too harsh in windows and in games? I see everyone recommend to use 100-100, but in hdr games, the UI, the subtitles, and other static menu parts are just too bright for me. Like in elden ring, white item descriptions are like spotlights, too harsh. What i find more manageable is 80 oled brightness and 80 contrast, that way u see nice peak highlights too, like sunlight between trees etc. but the menu and subtitle elements will be not that harsh, but softer.

While I have successfully completed the SDR and HDR recommendations, I cannot get the Dolby Vision option to show under PICTURE SETTINGS on my new C1 (purchased April 2022) when playing Dolby Vision content. It is always Film Maker mode with only the non- Dolby Vision HDR options available. I am playing Dolby Vision content via Roku 4K Ultra with HBO Max (Batman -- Gotham is Calling). I've checked to ensure HD Deep Color is enabled; confirmed my HDMI cable is suitable (48Gbps / 8K); confirmed that ROKU settings are correct for the attached display; enabled/disabled Film Maker auto-detect. I even tried a FireTV Stick 4K Max - all to no avail. I'm pretty sure it is something I've overlooked in settings, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is. Any help would be most appreciated!!

I’ve noticed a bit of the crushed black. I’ve found that cnet’s recommended settings were really good. Pretty much the same as this but they recommended gamma 2.2 and bumping up the brightness from the default of 50 to 52. It doesn’t wash out the blacks and there is a bit more detail. It’s very subtle.

I just got my 55 C1. I've been messing with the settings for my Series X and PS5. You're the first person that I've seen talk about and use the "apply to all inputs" options. If I'm understanding right, this means that the settings you selected will be automatically applied to all HDMI inputs that switch over to filmmaker mode?
Edit: never mind. I paused the video to ask the question right before you explained the exact answer I was looking for haha. I should've let the video play a few more seconds before typing.
I guess my only question would be that if I applied the filmmaker settings to all inputs for filmmaker mode, it shouldn't affect the settings I set up specifically for my game systems in Game mode?

This is because you are used to seeing white with too much blue within it. The settings for Filmmaker Mode match the standards for SDR and HDR (they share the same white balance standard) and that is warmer than the completely inaccurate standard or other white balance settings which are too blue. You can of course set the TV up however you like, but if you want to see it as it was colour graded and mastered, you need to match the standards.

Vivid or filmmaker, sharpness 10 or 0 , contrast 50 or 100 , Peak brightness on or of. There is no best picture settings for overall. It depends on 100 factors (bright or dark room, reflection or no, PS5 or PC or both, HDR content , Netflix etc...) And it is up to you to find which one is best for you and your setup :)

@@ewcho8995 "Best" is subjective. The most accurate according to measuring equipment? Certainly.
If using the suggested settings results in you enjoying your TV less, then they are by definition not the best settings though. For instance, someone might not be able to stand the stutter caused by the panel's super fast response time, making them enable some minimal frame interpolation. The color temperature of the lighting in your room might also skew your perception of color. Also, remember that people don't necessarily perceive colors exactly the same so these settings are not necessarily even accurate in that sense.

I found with 83" screen some of the auto/dynamic related setting will settle the picture artifacts / pecularities, which is not normally visible on smaller screens like 65" displays I have as a second display. So the calibration also is dependant of screen size also. With too overexposed view your eyes will burn with 83 incher, but with 50 inch display is just an little too far set value and that's it.
