  • In this video I go fishing for lake trout on Bridge Lake in British Columbia. This lake has seen an increase in fishing pressure and my fishing adventures brought me back to see if the lake trout fish size has gone done over the years and if the kokanee fish size has gone up.

Wouldn’t you think fishing pressures are increasing to these lakes by you tube videos and Facebook videos ?

Yes. UA-cam videos and Facebook are variables in the equation to increased fishing pressures. However, youtube videos can also educate people to help aid in the conservation of target species. We need to discuss conservation and focus on the education of anglers to help with increased angling pressure due to increasing populations that are starting to move into areas that were not popular before. Videos can also help educate and recruit new anglers, which help in conservation and stocking programs because our freshwater fishing licenses help fund programs to restock out lakes. Wild species that spawn on their own will need constant protection, and while changing daily limits and introducing slot sizes might help, we also need to consider increased fishing pressures from angler effort days. If everyone took a fish home on every trip they went fishing (while following the current fishing regulations) we might still see a decrease in size and quantity of some species and there might also be an increase in size of other species. Education is key. Some lakes might remain productive, while other lakes might see a decrease in productivity. I believe it's not as simple as pointing a finger at one contributing factor. We need to talk about, discuss, and educate ourselves and others about the positive and negative impacts around us.

Would you want to let me know what time of year this is and do you have a depth range you would target them in at that time of year?

    • @FougereFamilyAdventures

This was in the summer time. Depths range depending on the water temperature and time of the day. Start with 60-80ft and work +/- on either side of these depths.

@pieter4104 I caught a laker jigging on Quesnel Lake with a large green buzz bomb once. It was 200ft down. I'd recommend braided line for jigging that deep. It was hard to feel him bite and even harder to know if I got a good hook set.

@@FougereFamilyAdventures I agree I have a nice spot on the north arm at the point of a little bay where there's a nice saddle in the water it goes up to like 60' then down to 100 something and 200+ on the other side that's where I will start. I've caught lots as well trolling around another bay close to Abbott Creek campground where I will be camping on the 29th for a week

@KirkB_ now there's 2 more things I've been wanting to do over the years. I miss the Stellako. It used to be fun before the beetle kill, then the water levels were always too high.

I just came back from the Cariboo yesterday after 5 days of fishing. Bridge was one of them I tried. Needed the lake trout off the species list of fish to catch. I jigged and jigged and searched the lake bottom areas for hours with the sonar. I was using that exact buzz bomb, as well I tried a tube jig. Those lunkers were quite elusive to me. I did however get one to the boat which only happened on a slow troll. It came in like a wet sock with not much concern or protest to being caught. But at least I got one in my hands. I was inspired to try it thanks to your videos. There's some appreciation for the time it takes to get the footage you put out. Cheers and fish on..... 👍🏼🚣🐟

@@unwearymeat5523 it's great to hear you got out there and that my videos have inspired you to get outside and go fishing. I definitely have spent many hours fishing (learning) about this fairly new to me species. The lakes we have in the Cariboo are all unique and special in their own way. I want to fish them all. What depths were you trying? Did you mark many fish? My thoughts are that as the water temperatures cool, they might be up higher in the water column searching for kokanee and bait fish.

He sure was. I wasn't able to find any tank this year like the last few years though. I really hope there are a few still lurking in the depths.
