  • We did RB30 vs 2JZ engine block comparison, now its time to test and compare their little brothers. The RB25DET and the 1JZ-GTE engine blocks.
Please note, we are only testing the bare block, no other ancillary parts that go with it.

So much more respect for the Supra’s 1J/2JZ engine after watching these videos. They engineered the crap out of these engines, no wonder they’re so legendary.

yeah I am practically a fanboy of the JZ engines, but even I never realized how overengineered and well made these engines are. I knew they were good, but I didn't think they were *THIS* good, it absolutely blows my mind.

Iron my dudes, it's iron. Not steel. Iron is porous, which means it retains oil nicely and stays lubricated. It's why it's good for blocks.

Thanks for the video and the objective numbers! One correction: the video says deck height, but I think deck thickness is meant. The deck height is the distance between the crank centerline and the top of the deck, essentially the block height. This is the main difference between a 1JZ block and a 2JZ block: the 2JZ block is the taller of the two.

Great video again guys. The 1JZ was designed by Yamaha for Toyota, as a replacement/upgrade to the M series Toyota six cylinder engines. The 7m gte which came in the JZA70 Supra was a great engine but suffered from overheating, head gasket and head stud issues where the head would tend to lift at high boost. As a die hard RB man, these videos are heartbreaking, but give credit where it's due, the JZ engines are monsters.

I'd like to see a VW 06A and EA888 since they're made of iron too. Some VR6s to compare against the Japanese engineering would be fun to see.

completely impractical i know but id love to see a 7mgte and how that stacks up to other RB's and JZ's. Supposedly the bottom ends were quiet good.

The choice between a 25 and 1J is easy for me, if I've got a Nissan, I'd use a 25, if I've got a Toyota, a 1J, I've seen 25s slightly out perform 1Js with the same sort of setups in street cars, 1J needed a bit more boost, once again both awesome motors

Without headflow numbers all of this means nothing sure the block can support 1000hp but can the ports flow around the 333cfm required to make that power

Hmm I found that video very interesting. I understand the rb25 block is heavier than the 2j but fully built isn't the rb25 engine still considered lighter than the 1jz? Thank you for the video!

Are the heads on the rb engines much better then? These videos seem like a pattern. The jzs seem to be much better at reliability, so much that for me, it might justify not using a rb at all

this is cool and all, but since you do so many test of race proven 6 cylinders, can you test a race proven K series 4 cylinder honda engine? I wanna see it's hardness and thickness of bores. Thank you. K series being some of the most utilized and best 4 cylinder engines readily available, much like the barra in Australia.
