Tried your products a few months ago for my first Marathon, received a nutrition plan and the necessary products.Race went amazing,no cramps no dehydration, felt great throughout the race.
Great video and valuable advice! Recently switched to precision - need at least 1L fluids/hour and still can't seem to stomach more than ~45g carbs with all that fluid, leading to some massive bonks 5-6 hours into races. Hoping some of these tips help!
Wow what I would give to be able to get by on 500ml an hour! Did two sweat rate tests this year, both on a flat paved trail, ~70 max HR. At 39 deg F I lost 0.8L/hr and at 79 deg I lost 1.4L/hr. Makes it hard to stay hydrated during a hot race! Great video by the way.
We do see a lot of very sweaty athletes so if you want some advice, please do head on over to our knowledge hub or book a video call with one of the team. We can't stop you from sweating buckets, but we might be able to help with hydration and performance in the heat!
Trying to up my carb intake, partly with Precision Fuel products. I have been wondering, though, does it matter how much you ingest at any one time? I find myself eating/drinking a lot all at once, which seems okay for my stomach so far, but I'm not sure it's the best for performance.
Science is pretty equivocal on the subject. It makes sense that pacing out your carb intake will help avoid potential gut issues that might rear their ugly head from consuming a large amount of carb in a short period. It will also help to maintain a steady supply of energy with no peaks and troughs. But what matters most is that you hit your numbers and that you do it in a way you can tolerate, so trying it in training is key 🙌
For the 90grams pouches, says one per hour. So, do i just open one every hour and finish it there and then, or sip just one continously ?? If the second option, thatd mean id be constantly drinking it throughout the race though???
Hi @na-dk9vm, to avoid any gut issues, we recommend to sip on it throughout the hour, as you would take 3x PF 30 gels over the hour. It does not mean you have to constantly sip every 5 minutes but perhaps take on the gel every 20 mins or so in order to hit a 90g carb intake over the hour without causing any GI distress.
Hi @techlaw997 if you head to our PF&H website and click the Contact Us option on the header menu you will find the link to locate your closest sweat test centre. You can also drop us an email from our website if you have further questions on the sweat test process. We dont offer any coaching but if you are looking for something specific (coaching or other services) then please do get in touch via our website and we should be able to help provide some recommendations/ options for you. 😀
Sadly we can't give out freebies to everyone who asks, but if you go through our online Fuel and Hydration Planner you'll get access to a discounted Taster Pack so you can try small before going big (and long) :-)
I stopped watching 10min in...why is this video primarily featuring male runners and mainly talking about the numbers for carbs, hydration, sodium, for male runners only? I was hoping you would have Lauren share her numbers.
Hi Jilly, There's undeniably a skew towards male voices over female in this particular video, but we can assure you that this was not by design. This video was shot at Western States and it just happened to be the case that most of the athletes that we work with who attended that particular race were men. If you look at our case studies and athlete roster on our website, as well as our social media, hopefully you'd agree that we're fairly well-balanced when it comes to gender/sex. Of course, this is something we monitor and discuss as it's important to us. If you'd like to see Lauren's numbers broken down in their full glory, we published a case study of her race on our website and posted a summary graphic on Instagram, so do check those out!
