I love this channel, Jim. Glad you are doing individual plants.
Purchased 2 from Camelia Forest and they are excellent focal points to attract attention in shaded garden areas. THANK YOU.
I purchased and planted one back in the fall. We've had a dry fall and winter with a lot of nighttime temps in the high teens/low to mid 20s (zone 7B, north MS). The plant is so showy; it's what catches my eye when I look out my kitchen windows.
I’m fairly new to gardening- learning so much from these plant video. Planting a new privacy garden in the spring - want lots of Interests with mainly evergreens.
I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you so much.
Lovely bright foliage.
The bright green leaves/red stems are beautiful!
I love the idea that their leaves smell like licorice!
Love this format! It complements the HortTube format well! Thanks, Jim!
I like the format of the new channel. There is a clear outline of the plant's growing needs. Great!
I love your videos where you spotlight one particular plan! Especially when it’s in my hardiness zone 6B . 😀 Thanks Jim
I love the red stems on this!
Took some cuttings of this shrub at the JC RAULSTON ARBORETUM propagating class. Hope they root!!
In 7a, when I first planted mine it had awful, spotty leaves, was dropping some leaves, and just looked kind of bad for about a year. I moved it to a wetter spot in my garden and now every leaf is perfect, it has great color with no more spots, and it's thriving. It became super low maintenance after I moved it. Mine gets 2-3 hours of direct morning sun now. Definitely a thirstier plant, but an easy plant once you find a spot it likes.
I am so glad J. Lee you mentioned this. I also have the same problem except they were looking worse in the second year. Do you think it was just the water? I have one in a wetter spot and it is the same thing. I don't get direct sun, I wonder if that is the problem. I have nowhere to move them really......
@@suziq6455 Mine get a couple of hours of morning sun. I think they do need a little sun. Maybe Jim can answer this one.
Wow, such a bright 🌞 spot in the garden, year around!
This is one of our favorite additions. The gold/ chartreuse color in shade is definitely awesome. Big plus for us: We live in the country and so far after 1-1/2 years in the ground, the deer have not eaten this one!
I first learned of these from your other channel. I have two and they are two of my favorites in my garden. Love the red stems! I also love this channel!
Love the red stems
Have five of them planted as a small hedge, on a berm, between houses. They haven’t met yet, but they have proven themselves winners. Withstand drought successfully, with not too much water. But, the berm gets water from rain on both sides. They get sun from 1 or so to 4, and do not burn here in Virginia. Deer and rabbits do not bother them, a real plus. All in all, after three years, I am a fan.
Good to know!
Goes great with 'Bronze Peacock' rodgersia.
Good to know. I wondered what to pair with this on my north facing house.
Like all of your videos, this is so helpful. I planted one of these near the dripline of a large oak tree and it looks so sad and thirsty. I love the plant but this confirms I need to move it.
I love this versatile plant. It really brighten up a shady spot. I think it looks great next to camellias now that I see them close in your video.
i have 2 i've brought inside since i haven't figured out yet where in my yard they would do well. i'll have to keep an eye on the sun and shade in my yard, especially as we head into our super scorching summers here in Garner.
Beautiful Garden ❤
Beautiful colour, I love the red stems 🥰 I definitely want one of these 🤗 Thank You for sharing Jim 💕
I have several of a different variety and I love them. Will definitely consider putting a "Florida Sunshine' in another area where it will shine.
Thanks for the note on drought tolerance, would be nice to see watering info on the info card that you place at the end of the video as well.
Another very informative video. I'm enjoying your new channel.
A gold for the shade? I'm sold. Going to order this and get it in the garden this year. Great info. Great channel. Keep it up!
I really like these! If I win the consult Hopefully you can help me find a place to plant some! Thanks Jim.
Oooooo! This is one I might be able to grow!
I didn't know these plants were fragrant! Thanks for the info.
Love these plant videos. Keep them coming!!!
Beautiful foliage color
Amazing! A zone 6b gold plant! Now to figure out where this could go along with the sunshine ligustrum!
I really like this plant. I'm in zone 7a TN and trying to find 2 of them to go in my front flowerbed.
Great info! Thanks for making these videos.
Love your videos, I learn so much!
Great video!
What is the best/easiest way to add/build healthy soil around a foundation.
I need to add 6-12" around my house and fence.
Is there a mix? Top soil, mulch, black cow etc?
Love that color!
mine really got beat down by winter 22. I'm in KY zone 6b. Trimmed it back and new growth is rigorous but height is only 3-5" from the ground. Hope it can reach 2-3 ft by fall.
Great looking plant, sadly I can’t seem to see it anywhere for sale in Britain.
Looking forward to planting these in a shade garden with other natives.
I just saw this for the first time at a nursery today. Absolutely gorgeous……$90.
Yowzaa!
What would happen if I tried to grow one of these in Kansas? Zone 6, I believe. Would it survive the summer but completely die over winter? Would covering it to protect from frost preserve it?
Hey Jim, can I move my illicium right now? I’m in Fayetteville, 8a…and I planted one last season but I had a tree come down this winter so now it will get full, all day sun if it’s not moved. I’d hate to have it burn, it’s too gorgeous for that!
That is a shrub that I would defiantly want to have in my landscape. Are they easy to find?
ILove the detail provided on each plant. Now, I'm presuming you have acid soil as you have camellias, but What is the ideal ph for this Illicium? (here in my area of the UK I have clay soil and a ph of 6.5 to 7.)
Lovely!
I planted one this fall after I saw it in your garden. What dark foliage plant could I plant next to it? Thought that would make the yellow foliage pop. Thanks!
My illicium was planted early last fall and I did not protect it over the last month
Noticed today it is very droopy so I hope it survives. Zone 7B Winston Salem
Hi Jim! I am looking for help! I have two SSFlorida Illicium planted in the front of my house and after this hard winter I am noticing black spots, especially on new growth. What can I do? I planted these over a year ago and its in a North Facing shady area zone 7a. Thank you for help!
Just got one based on your video here!
Love the ones that I have! ❤️ so beautiful,!
I'm in zone 6b, borderline 7, and looking at Illicium Pink Frost. My intended spot is next to the front porch. There is shade, and the ground is usually moist, but it does freeze in the winter. It was love at first sight with this plant, so wondering what my chances are of keeping it alive. I do have some other z7 plants that (so far) haven't died.
I live in zone 7b & have shrubs that are borderline like soft caress mahonias & Nandinas. I keep them mulched during winter to protect their roots. Their leaves get some winter damage but I just trim them off during Spring & they flush back up beautifully.
I love shades of gold against the greens in my garden
can you easily propagate this plant? i have one that is leggy and big already?
I have 1 out of 3 planted in same bed that is drooping leaves sagging turning brown. Idk what is going on? Planted about 3 months. Zone 7b -8b. Other 2 are perked up look healthy. This 1 just looks like it's trying to die? 1st time planting these so Idk what to do.
What companion shrubs would you use with this?
I need deer resistant, so this is for me. Probably the licorice fragrance that makes it so.
Would it do well on the north side of a house where it would get no sun in the winter and about 7 hours in the summer?
Will this bush/plant have some leaves which will go back to green eventually?
We have not experienced reversions
Ela gosta de muito sol?
No
Got a spot that needs bright plant in front of evergreens
👋😃
