  • “We all took burner phones. You would not take your own laptops and telephones to China.”
Chair of the APPG on China Richard Graham tells Matt Chorley he encouraged Chinese officials on a recent visit to put out statements reassuring they will not interfere in the UK election because he believes the country wants to make itself "more likeable" to the West.

Because of issues of ego and "historical grievances," China want's to rewrite the international rules and systems that have benefited them greatly. The problem for China is that the world is waking up to the fact that they have been a "free rider" for far too long. China's refusal to abide by the UN ruling and its insistence on the nine-dash line is widely interpreted internationally as a ploy to extend its influence and control over neighboring Asian nations. Moreover, their request to remove the ship appears to follow a pattern similar to their actions in the Spratly Islands, where they initially promised to withdraw but ultimately maintained a presence, fueling concerns about their true intentions and regional stability.

Britain v China- no way we can dictate to them. Is it not about power and not about being liked. Why would they swap Russia resources for being liked? Ultimately they want to be powerful. We just don't have the stick to push China about. We lost leverage over Russia with sanctions and us choosing the policy of isolation. It's sad to see us reduced to trying to get China to use its leverage on Russia which shows we have no means of persuading them. I also think it's a misunderstanding of China's foreign policy which is largely about making money and spreading influence that way. The China believe that if Russia lose all western efforts would be to target them. This war is actually good for them economically/ They don't have an ethical foreign policy. The Chinese just like the Indians will do what they perceive to be in their best interest. Since we don't walk in their shoes we can never fully understand why they think what they think. Just like with Russia, lectures and sanctions just won't work. They may make us feel better but we seem to be losing the economic battle. PPP is a better measure of economic performance rather than nomInal GDP. Nonetheless, the interviewee speaks with a passion and is clearly dedicated.

The CCP already have some of my biometrics as it’s a prerequisite to enter the country on a short term visa . I’ll worry about it if it becomes an issue later . Truth is you can track anyone’s digital footprint at any time . People buy from china all the time and especially electronic goods etc …
I found the Chinese people to be thoroughly nice and welcoming . I’ve been there a few times . The Chinese government know that democracy would rip China apart along regional and ethnic lines . It’s not so simple to make democracy work everywhere . It doesn’t work that well here and in the states . Granted …. It’s better than an autocracy , but horses for courses .
Mass populations like in China and India with diverse ethnic and religious groups are nearly impossible to govern .

Like a crocodile so deep in water his eyes can't see he's swimming in debt. We are sympathetic to you Mr.Jinping; but you were there during the beginning of this. So the whole real estate bubble and economic issues rose up to this level of market absurdity under your nose. Perhaps being self guided you asserted authority where you should have asked critical questions about unchecked economic and housing growth. The opposite has been happening in the US. Not enough and where it is it is It is out of reach to actually purchase for average people. Maybe you work best when under a challenge and maybe this is what the Chinese people need? You really need to have people who are attentive to details working for you who are not afraid to tell you the critical details and not yourself overreact to bad critical news. It is time to wade out of the swamp sit back in the sun and not be so overly territorial. Perhaps you should direct your energies toward cooperative and practical efforts that all can become corrected.

The West pushed Russia and China together your words won't separate them. Europe is paying such high prices for LNG their businesses are unprofitable. I just read an Article how all of Germany's large industries are moving to China. Europe hasn't seen the writing on the wall apparently. Bottom line Europe has made themselves business unfriendly and that will have an impact on your GDP.

BS. The West did no such thing. In the early 20th century, Russian leaders found a scam almost as good as autocracy and ran with it. The west didn't want it. The west never wanted Chinese, ancestor worship, turned living men worship. Two scams for a permanent, near omnipotent ruling class. Russia (USSR) and China just both swiped right on geo political Grinder.

Some German companies are investing heavily in producing in China. To take advantage of cheap energy there much of which is from Russian hydrocarbons. Which is a bit ironic when the point of sanctions was to reduce the money Putin gets from oil and gas.
But these companies are building plants in the US as well where energy is cheap. The era of heavy industry, chemicals etc, in Germany is ending because of Putin's war in Ukraine.

Who wants to be helping to a country(Ukraine) which kept killing civilians(russian language speakers) since 2014 ? It would be the same if someone would start helping to a man who attacked another man....( Russia is helping to civilians in Donbas since those civilians were killed by thousands since 2014) What is the point here ? About Ukraine war I say it like this: Would USA like Russia´s army in Mexico or Cuba? If your answer was NO while you do not mind NATO(it means USA´s army) near Russia, than something is very wrong with your reasoning, period

Why should China be different in its aspirations from Brittain 150 years ago? It is normal, that China plays a smart card. Or them, or us... that was the game the EU and the USA defined the rules. So, in the end, they learned this from us.

NGOs should play the role of democratic entities within a non-democratic environment. Guess. where (in the past) Western Germany would send their toxic waste and bury it? Yes. To Eastern Germany.
