These 3rd=class trains might lack the luxury and speed of their more expensive counterparts but I found them a very interesting way to mix with the locals who use them for their daily commute as well as see the countryside at a more sedate pace. I did the ride from Nam Tok through Kanchanaburi to Bangkok Thon Buri several years back - highly encourage anyone to try that too.
Have taken this train just for the experience .Also took the train to Chiang mai and back several times . As somebody said "its not the destination you should focus on but the journey itself ".
I'm looking to travel this way to PATTAYA next year , just confirm please which station you boarded the train at ,,,was getting the ticket any hassle ??? thanks SYDNEY Dave .
@@davidwebb8380 Hey Dave, I boarded at Bangkok (Hualamphong) historic station and got off at Pattaya Tai. The tickets aren't a problem for this train (both ways) as it can't sell out. There are only 3rd class carriages as shown in the video. You can simply show up at the station 30 minutes prior departure and buy your ticket. Cheers!

Couldn't agree more. It's usually at a slower pace we really get to explore things well. 😊
