    Great to see the close-up of how to do the "hand-twist" retrieve. Very helpful. Thanks.

    Another hello from NZ..Would love to see more Lake content. Even better I would love a Lake version of the book "Tactical flyfishing" or lake version of Modern / elevated flyfishing. Keep up the good work. I am catching 3 times what I use to in rivers, but lakes are my nemesis!

      I’m currently writing a book so you’ll have more content available raise our UA-cam video in 2023 most likely.

    Hi from New Zealand! I just caught the last 5 minutes of this but it was very informative and I love that your demonstrations were proven to work as evidenced by the fish you "accidentally" caught while showing us how it's done. In half a dozen outings I am still yet to catch a fish but I figure the more knowledge I have and the more times I can get out on the river, success just has to follow, right?

      Keep at it Phil. Fly Fishing has so many facets to work on. If you stick with it you'll definitely be catching fish on your outings before too long.

    Thanks Devin! Excellent tips as usual. Looking forward to other stillwater fishing videos, such as most effective flies, equipment suggestions. Curious if there is an advantage of using fly-fishing set up vs. Spincasting mono in success rate.

      I have another video that I'll be working on from the same day with fly recommendations. I don't use spinning gear myself so I can't compare its effectiveness.

    Favorite line for Stillwater? I have an intermediate and a floating line with some 12-15’ sinking heads. Have fished moving water for decades and really haven’t done much in the way of Stillwater. I want to though. Depth of water you normally target fish? Thanks as always!

      I carry 24 lines with me in the boat so it's impossible for me to pick a favorite. To add to your floating and intermediate lines, I would suggest you look at getting type 3, type 5, and type 7 lines to fish for a range of depths. I can target fish anywhere from the surface to 25' of water with the right rig.

    Are there any fall/late fall flies you recommend trying ? I’ve had great success with leeches but I’m looking to build confidence in some other flies. I mainly fish from shore from with an indicator to control my depth. Thanks!!!

      Boobies! (the fly) As the point fly on a washing line set up. Yellow eyes with orange marabou.

      I'll be doing another video showing the flies from this trip. Various leeches are a good place to start for fall fishing. If you use other rigs then FAB (foam assed blobs), boobies, various zonkers, and a few nymphs can still be good.

    Over your right shoulder, what is that clamped on the rail of your boat? A Bimini quick disconnect?

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817
      @tacticalflyfisher3817  3 місяці тому

      @@Erik-pf7gm it’s a drogue to slow down the drift. You can find out about it in my new stillwater book or in the other stillwater videos I’ve done on this channel.

    You may have already made a video about my next question so if you did I apologize in advance, my question is what is your still water set up? I recently moved and the area i live in now is predominantly still water fishing and all my set up is for streams and creeks

      You likely don’t need a new rod or reel from what you already have. First thing you need is more reel spools and lines. Clear intermediate, medium sinking, fast sinking. For your floating line you may need breakaway indicators so you can fish deep on a long leader.

    • @tacticalflyfisher3817

      I fish a 10' 6 weight rod. For me that is my pick for a "standard" stillwater fly rod. The main thing you need in addition to your rod is a lot of lines and probably a cassette reel so the spools don't cost you an arm and a leg. I carry 24 lines in my line bag but the most important lines in the bunch are the floating, midge tip, slow intermediate, fast intermediate, type 3, type 5, and type 7 lines.
