Having grown up in NZ and fly fished from a young age, I just assumed it was normal to sight fish. I now live in the States and those sight fishing skills have transferred well to the local fishing.
Nice vid and loved the way you handled that fish. Left it in the water for as long as possible, a quick lift to show and then immediately released. Always good to see anglers catch and release the fish with maximum respect and minimum stress
Unrelated to this video, but was wondering what thermometer you use. One of your videos features you utilizing a digital device and I was hoping to replace my analog thermometer.
Hi Drew, I have a compact infrared thermometer. They don't make it anymore but you can get pretty much the same thermometer from a company called thermoworks.
Yes. It works as well as anywhere else as long as you choose the appropriate water type. You won't have much success euro nymphing a glide or deep stagnant hole there but it will work very well in any of the moving water where you can approach within 20-25' of fish. I just tend to focus more on sight fishing when I'm there so I spend a lot of time in glides and smooth water but you can still sight fish in the broken water with the Euro rig as well. I normally bring two rods with me to cover distance dry fly or single nymphing and euro nymphing.
It depends upon the water type and the distance I need to cast. I normally use either the dry fly leader from the linked video below with tippet adjusted as needed or the micro Euro nymphing leader when I'm short fishing at shorter distances. ua-cam.com/video/GTcJcPMyBkk/v-deo.htmlsi=-5mpXP_GBZrGBEUx
Devin, I learn so much each time I watch one of your videos.
Glad they are helpful!
Who needs New Zealand - that location and that brown trout are beautiful..
It's a pretty stellar location for sure.

It’s something a lot more anglers could be doing here for sure.

Great video. Your channel is fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
Blue heron tip very nice.
Thanks
Very nice! I know that river! 😃👍 one of our favorite locations. Great tips. Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Did you see the fish at 11:21 right next to you in the right edge of the frame? 😀 thanks for sharing those tips, Devin.
Yes, it was already spooked.
Very good Devon, always look forward to your videos
Thanks Fred
Great tips! I can attest to their effectiveness as I've seen you first hand rail on fish doing exactly what you describe in this vid.
Thanks Gilbert!
Thank you for the email alert. very useful education. Keep up the great work.........
Thanks Jim
I really enjoy this channel! 👍
Thanks for watching
And often when they break rule num. 8 they spook the fish where I'm fishing.
Haha! Yeah there is a lot of high holing and raucous wading out there. Sadly I think most folks just don't know any better.
Thanks for the tips. Was that a single nymph setup Devin?
Yes. It was a long dry fly leader but with a single 2 mm perdigon on the end.
@@tacticalflyfisher3817 Thank you Devin.

Hi Devin what WF fly line do you recommend for dry fly fishing on a euro rod or your 9’ T&T.
I use the SA Amplitude Trout
Does euro nymphing work well fishing that particular river? I’ve yet to try it there as I’ve only been euro nymphing for about 2 years (thanks to you)

What river is this out of interest? Beautiful
We have a no name policy on any where we film but it’s a pretty famous river that you likely already know about.
Get an elevated vantage point--so you're saying bring a 12 ft ladder out into the river?
😁 no but I think we both know who you’re referencing.
@@tacticalflyfisher3817 Haha I had a feeling you'd get that one. Great content as always. I especially liked tip #11 about getting a measurement cast
Those browns were pure butter
Over the years I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys fishing and breaking rule num. 8.
Yep. Lots of folks like to crash through the water out there. Thankfully that leaves more fish for those who don't I guess :)
What kind of leader do you use for sight fishing?

What rod were you using? The handle looks like a Loop 7X.
In the shot of me rerigging I was rerigging Connor’s rod which was a loop. I was using a T and T Avantt 9’ 4 weight though.
@@tacticalflyfisher3817 thanks for the reply. Keep up the great work, your videos are awesome!
