I have the 2017 Traditional, Burstbucker I & II Non Weight Relief, Hand wired , Standard Switching and finger bleeders and it was the Les Paul I finally Pulled the Trigger on after looking for over a Dozen years for That Perfect les paul For Me
Dude, some guy named Al owes you a thanks. Im gonna go and probably buy his guitar from kijiji right now. This is what I want. Nothing against the standard and push pull knobs, I just want a simple, awesome Les Paul... Best demo Ive watched by far!!!
I love my 2018 Traditional... Heritage Cherry sunburst. I'm with you on the tuners... considering a set of Kluson Revolution locking tuners and changing the pups out with a set of '57 Classics w/ 4 wire and push pull pots and Mallory caps.
My 1997 Gibson Les Paul standard is my number one and no guitar managed to replace it since '97. If you love the tone and playability of a guitar never replace it just for the sake of look or prestige as you will regret it.
amazing guitar. hope to see this in more videos. agreed. never been a fan of Gibson stock buckers. Should check out the Schecter Pasadena set. Amazing pups imo
I have the same guitar and agree with your comments, but I do like the look of the vintage tuners. Not impressed with the BB PU's either but I love the guitar overall. Mine has a very nice flamed top that you normally see on the standards, also. I have a set of Slash SD PU's that I am debating on putting in it????
Those Alnico II pro Slash pickups sound great! I ended up putting a set of Planet Tone Blues Heritage pups in mine and I went ahead and put some good old Grovers on it while I was at it. Much better in my opinion.
It depends on whether you like more bells and whistles or the more traditional type, the traditional wont have weight relief, the 2019 classic will, and the classic has coil splits, and uncovered Hb's. Either way, hope you enjoy whichever you choose!
I have one of these in the tobacco sunburst. I played it against my LP Studio and my SG Standard and there is NO comparison. The Trad blows them both away and it has a monsterous tone. The SG would be 2nd and the studio 3rd as far as tone and sound quality. And I’ve always been an SG guy........Until I played this Trad.
I think the standards are coming with the 60's Slim taper profile now. Between the two, this one is just a little fatter and rounder. Not a baseball bat(which I would love) but not quite as thin as the 60's. Good in-between profile in my opinion.
Lucas Fowler thanks! Would you say it fits right into your hand? Sorry if I’m asking all these questions but I have the opportunity to get one and it’s a fair drive so I don’t want to waste time if I don’t like the neck..!
It's very comfortable to me, but I like rounded necks and even chunky if I can find them. If you're more of an Ibanez wizard thin kinda player, this might not be your thing. But if you like traditional "C" shapes, this is very comfortable IMO. Hope that helps!
Lucas Fowler Same here, I’ve made the « mistake » of trying out a Custom Shop R9 and it’s haunting me ever since 🤣 thanks for all the answers, I might be worth trying it out, at least I will know.
Had one wouldn't last a single song without going out of tune had it back to main dealers twice didt solve the tuning issues with les paul traditional sold it lost £600 only had it a few month Beautiful guitar thou now got epiphone les paul modern and fender strat never go out of tune
Agree with the notion to swap to 50's wiring and a premium wiring harness. Check out Jackson Electronic Luthier on reverb.com. I just put in their 550k Centralab with Sprague Vitamin Q caps into and old LP Gothic with Sentient/Pegasuspickups. Incredible volume/tone sweep and transparency.
Nice guitar: enjoy ! To me, the BurstB uckers are a little harsh, but depending on the music genre you are playing, they can be very efficient for rock/hard rock, even metal ! \m/
i have a 2011 traditional. the finish looks almost identical except in 2011 they called it "light burst". mine has '57 classic bridge and neck pickups.
Helix has a very muddy downstairs also with a bridge pickup. Gibson-digital is a weird combination if you have to introduce Gibson. It does not sound like Gibson. It needs a tube amp especially in live gigs. But anyway nice vid!
I don't think it impedes it, but it does change it a little. I usually think covers roll off the really high end frequencies a little, but not too much.
I got mine used, and it was installed. I don't know if they come installed from the factory, but I removed mine because I like the look of the guitar better without it.
PRS, every day of the week. I like Gibson a lot, especially older ones that have some cool character, but from performance and tone standpoint, I ALWAYS default to my PRS's. My DGT is one of the best guitars I have ever played much less owned.
Your skills make the guitar shine , and these same skills make it difficult to accurately evaluate its sound... My experience with Gibson, over the years, has been disappointing - but this may be an exceptional instrument.
I have seen my fair share of bad Gibson guitars, especially during the years I worked at a local music store. I have to say though, this one seems to me like what a production Les Paul should be. Hopefully, this is trend that will keep going!
There is only one true Les Paul and it has an open book headstock with Gibson on it. Anything else is just an imitation, sincere as it may be. Beautiful guitar man and awesome picking. Now plug that thing into a Marshall and let it rip.
I bought the 2018 Tribute model in faded honeyburst finish for £750 and it's a brilliant guitar and easily as good as the more expensive models costing 4 times the price. They're practically the same guitars as Traditionals & Standards etc but without the body & neck binding and gloss lacquer coating, plus mine came with different pickups to this, 490R neck & 498T bridge, which actually sound way better than the terrible sounding ones in this video !! I couldn't care less about the lack of binding or gloss lacquer, I prefer not having it to be honest, and to me it's foolish to spend 4 x the price just to have them. It's a shame that gibson have changed the spec of the 2019 Tribute to something that I wouldn't be interested in buying, but the 2018 model is great and in my opinion the pick of the different years of the Tribute. It also came in a satin gold top finish but I prefer the honeyburst myself.
Not the 2018 Tribute model mate, they could have cost anything between £750 and £1100 depending on where you bought them from. I think this year Gibson have called it the Studio Tribute, I'm not sure, and in recent years I think they called it the Faded Tribute. For my money though the 2018 was the best year for t
Gibson LP is mostly well made, but I always say find your neck, doesn’t matter if it’s a custom or standard Standard and throw all the electronic in the bin because Gibson is the worst of all the brands there is and buy aftermarket stuff, tons out there let it wire to your liking and use pots, bleeds and all that. You’ll find it’s relatively inexpensive and you most likely end up with the sound you want. It’s an electric guitar so put the electric components in it needs. I guess Gibson just goes let’s make everyone equally happy a shredder hard rocker and a R&B guy. Won’t work with Burst Buckers and 500k pots. That sound may work for hard rock loud as it gets bands but I play mostly clean blues and I hate them. A bit muddy? They are so bad that I first thought mine a faulty. You can’t get them sound right. They want to be distorted and played extremely loud. They are arguably the best looking guitar but they’re heavy and very inconsistent. I love the look but still have not found one I want to keep, they piss me off but I keep trying. Hopefully a Pearly Gates comes my way one day
Lucas Fowler I have a Vox AD60VT digital modelling amp that I use in my studio for recording. When I plug my LP trad into it it sounds like an LP. When I plug my Strat in it still sounds like a Strat. Even My Rickenbackers sound like Ricks. So I don’t have a problem with digital modelling amps. They are perfect for the studio. Great demo by the way, and awesome playing.
Love my 2018 Traditional 🤟
Sounds awesome Man! I bought a 2018 Traditional also and it’s really an amazing guitar.
hell ya.. got a gibson les paul traditional tobacco sunburst perimeter 2018 myself.. its one hell of a guitar..
LesPeterGuitarJam he does your come with a pick guard
LOOKING TO BUY ONE ....nice to hear someone play it correctly and show its FULL capabilities
I have the 2017 Traditional, Burstbucker I & II Non Weight Relief, Hand wired , Standard Switching and finger bleeders and it was the Les Paul I finally Pulled the Trigger on after looking for over a Dozen years for That Perfect les paul For Me
I have the 2019 Traditional in Tobacco Sunburst , beautiful in looks and sound . Got it on sale for $1800 new at Guitar Center .
Dude, some guy named Al owes you a thanks. Im gonna go and probably buy his guitar from kijiji right now. This is what I want. Nothing against the standard and push pull knobs, I just want a simple, awesome Les Paul...
Best demo Ive watched by far!!!
That bridge pickup sounds wicked. I'd love one of these in the future
Its a really well made guitar!
Killer playing Sir! Just got a 2017 Traditional T in honeyburst. Love it but man it’s heavy. 10lbs. Cheers!
I would bring mine to bed but the wife would have something to say about that.
Thanks very much 😊! I’m looking to order a Les Paul this weekend so that was super helpful 👍🏻
Great review Lucas.
I have the same guitar, decided to replace the pickups with a pair of Lollar Imperial.
Highly recommended, sounds ace!
I love my 2018 Traditional... Heritage Cherry sunburst. I'm with you on the tuners... considering a set of Kluson Revolution locking tuners and changing the pups out with a set of '57 Classics w/ 4 wire and push pull pots and Mallory caps.
I just bought a left over new 2018 Traditional for $1699 . I’m tickled shit less
Paul Grimm I’m tempted to pull the trigger on one too (for $1699) after this video.
Best deal ever
My 1997 Gibson Les Paul standard is my number one and no guitar managed to replace it since '97. If you love the tone and playability of a guitar never replace it just for the sake of look or prestige as you will regret it.
I have a 2016 traditional in iced tea. It's the best guitar I own
Now that is a freaking les Paul and it sounds good, l like it through the Marshall . 😉 good video
i just got one, tobacco sunburst. never heard or played a better fretboard
First time seeing your channel man. Killer blues rock player. I'm from Florence, SC so I recognize that Panthers hat 😂😂
Hey hey Carolina fer life! Thanks!
Great playing sir!!! Excellent review
gurleyz Thanks bro!
Excellent review!
I have a 18 Gibson les Paul traditional it sounds so good I sold my 00 Gibson les Paul studio
That’s a sweet les Paul!👍 that sounds great!!!!🎸🎼🎸🎵
Thanks!
This is real shizzle how a Gibson Les Paul standard should be, no frills just pure tone and look. Alnico V Burstbucker Pro for this guitar.
you look badass with that thing dude, sick guitar. got my sub
Thanks! Hahaha, its been awhile since someone told me I looked badass :P
Looks great over your right shoulder, not so much in the corner there. Maybe use some guitars on stands to hide the crap?
Haha, my wife had something similar to say about my work bench. If you watch one of my newer videos, you'll see I fixed that :P
amazing guitar. hope to see this in more videos.
agreed. never been a fan of Gibson stock buckers. Should check out the Schecter Pasadena set. Amazing pups imo
That was bridge pick up did not sound clean at all. Very beautiful guitar i've got a 2016 lightburst that looks similar!
I love my 18 LPTrad. The only mod I made was putting a Pearly Gates in the bridge. Feels great. Plays great.
Great demo.
Vince DiPietro thank you! Pearly Gates are great sounding pickups!
I have the same guitar and agree with your comments, but I do like the look of the vintage tuners. Not impressed with the BB PU's either but I love the guitar overall. Nothing like a real LP to kick ass!!!!
I'm thinking about getting one of these! It's a tough choice between this or the 2019 les paul classic! Not sure which I'd like better!
It depends on whether you like more bells and whistles or the more traditional type, the traditional wont have weight relief, the 2019 classic will, and the classic has coil splits, and uncovered Hb's. Either way, hope you enjoy whichever you choose!
I actually went with the standard in heritage cherry sunburst! I tried the other gibson les pauls and it just felt right!
Sounds sweet! What are you playing through?
Sounds amazing, what's your signal chain? Wow.
That's all the guitar straight into my Line 6 Helix, into my recording interface. Thanks!
I have one of these in the tobacco sunburst. I played it against my LP Studio and my SG Standard and there is NO comparison. The Trad blows them both away and it has a monsterous tone. How was the neck feeling , as in size shape comfort ? Thanks.
My les Paul’s are the same. Perfect.
Pretty high gain for a clean sound
Right?
Sweet playing. Do you know the difference between the '18 and '19 other than $700. ?
I haven't played a 2019, but I don't see any difference spec-wise. Gibson just likes to raise prices ever time they get a chance :P
@@LucasFowler Thank you Lucas. Maybe I should buy the '18 and save some coin.
Is there a big difference of the neck between this and the standard? Nice playing btw!
I think the standards are coming with the 60's Slim taper profile now. Between the two, this one is just a little fatter and rounder. Not a baseball bat(which I would love) but not quite as thin as the 60's. Good in-between profile in my opinion.
Hey Lucas! Great video! How would you describe the neck profile?
Thanks! I would say its a rounded profile, not as "flat" as the 60's slim taper. Not chunky, it is very "middle of the road."
Lucas Fowler thanks! Would you say it fits right into your hand? Sorry if I’m asking all these questions but I have the opportunity to get one and it’s a fair drive so I don’t want to waste time if I don’t like the neck..!

Did you analyze the 2017 Fender Pro series Telecaster?
another great video
edavidson55 Thanks very much!
You should swap the tone cap leads over and change it to a 50’s wired setup. All you’ll have to do is swap the leads and pot tabs.
X Crow I’m going to open it up later today and see what it looks like in there 😎
Agree with the notion to swap to 50's wiring and a premium wiring harness. Check out Jackson Electronic Luthier on reverb.com. I just put in their 550k Centralab with Sprague Vitamin Q caps into and old LP Gothic with Sentient/Pegasuspickups. Incredible volume/tone sweep and transparency.
Just layed one back.
Nice guitar: enjoy ! To me, the BurstB uckers are a little harsh, but depending on the music genre you are playing, they can be very efficient for rock/hard rock, even metal ! \m/
The Burstbucker 2 is the hotter, harsh one. The Burstbucker 1 is very nice, even as a bridge pickup (if you buy it aftermarket).
@@ErebosGR That BB2 is a little pointy for me. I'm pretty sure I'll be changing it out to something a little warmer and fatter.
@@LucasFowler Yup, I agree. Looking forward to see what you have planned.
ErebosGR Yep. I prefer lower output PU's. I've had a good experience with Lollar low-winds, as with SDuncan Jazz (also bridge).
I have that guitar to, Its an awesome guitar!!
kinda give me the jimmy page vibes
hows these pickups for more blues jazzy stuff as you didnt cover that style.?
Theyre great
What is your pedals ?
That top is KILLER. That's Custom Shop levels.
I have the 08 Traditional in Desert Burst.
Great review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Lucas if you could only have one would you go prs or Gibson? Lp or 594?
I love the classic Les Paul design, but if I had to pick I'd choose the PRS every time. They are incredible instruments.
Thank you sir!!
I luv them> I have 2 > a 2018 standard and a 2019 ocean green classic w/ 57’s
I just got a 2018 standard and it's a hell of a guitar!
Jason Bland SwEeT gUiTaR 🎸
Love burst buckers
Hooray. I love em 2
What amp are you using?
i have a 2011 traditional. the finish looks almost identical except in 2011 they called it "light burst". mine has '57 classic bridge and neck pickups.
I have a 2010 desert burst. Beast of a guitar. Found the thicker neck a bit weird at first but wow does it make things feel so much better
Great playing and amazing sound !
Thanks!
A face only a mother could love.
And even she hasn't spoken to me in a while!

Do you think covers on HB's impedes tone?
I don't think it impedes it, but it does change it a little. I usually think covers roll off the really high end frequencies a little, but not too much.
You wouldn't know it listening to this. Played clean, the pups were downright jangly. Guitar sounds great. Nice playing too.
Does the pickguard comes installed? Some 2018 models have to put them on your own.
I got mine used, and it was installed. I don't know if they come installed from the factory, but I removed mine because I like the look of the guitar better without it.
I bought one a week ago. The pickguard came with the guitarcase
It comes in the case but I will never put it on. why ruin the flames on the front, just my opinion.
But the real question is, PRS or Gibson
PRS, every day of the week. I like Gibson a lot, especially older ones that have some cool character, but from performance and tone standpoint, I ALWAYS default to my PRS's. My DGT is one of the best guitars I have ever played much less owned.
