This was obviously a difficult video to make but just wanted to say thank you for being such a positive and supportive community. We’re thinking we can’t be the only ones feeling lonely lately, especially this close to the holidays. We thought doing a live video sometime over Christmas would be a cool way to allow us all to have a little connection. We could set it up as a zoom meeting so people can join in like a FaceTime call too. Is there a day or time you think would be better? I'm sure you hear this all the time, but one more can't hurt. You guys have made my life better these last few weeks. A little background first. I'm a retired gay guy happily married and with three girls (dogs). I don't do this. I mean I've never watched someones blog and would never write something. Being vulnerable is my life story. I think I share that with many of my generation. We hid for so long it completely shaped us. I cry watching you guys. There is just something about your struggle, your love, and of course your dogs that appeals to my heart. The work appeals to me too. I've always been a DIY person and have recently discovered how nice it is to have so many videos of others doing projects, so I can watch first (now). The stories I could tell about doing things wrong. Anyway thanks so much. Keep going.

I am truly not a wordsmith. I’m more a touchy/feely person. But I have to say, I feel your pain. Some people can be cruel but many are kind and have your back. I live alone with my fur family (2 dogs 😊 and 4 cats! ) in a house in the countryside of La belle province. I wish I had a human to share these changing times with but I don’t. Let me tell you that I am so grateful to have you 4 in my life! I am also glad to see that you have supportive family. I think we're all experiencing a lot of the isolation, uncertainty and sadness that you're talking about here. I'm sorry that you were hurt by some ignorant person who couldn't see the beauty that is your love for one another. Your smiles help us get through our weeks, and I can only hope that some of these comments of support help you get through yours.

I can but agree with Jane, "Don't let those bastards get you down!" Having to live through a hate crime does leave a trace for sure, we all understand this... and we're all here for your support. I have dealt with homophobia/hate crime. I refused to let someone's hate dictate the one short life I have. By being my authentic self I know I have helped others. You guys are doing that now. Never let hate win.
Changing yourself means that they have won. We've been through that before, part of living in small Texas towns. For me it just confirmed that we were doing what was right. Never let hate win, never.
We totally agree and that's how we feel too but the reality is, it's easier said than done sometimes. Allowing ourselves to process those emotions is important...appreciate the love and support!
@@tylerandtodd Joan Rivers said give yourself 24 hours to wallow, and then move on. I've tried to follow her advice as much as I can. Let the sadness and fear turn into strength and passion. There will always be jerks in the world. People usually only act like that when their beliefs are challenged and someone who they believe is inferior has become more successful and happy than they are. It makes them mad at their own life but instead of fixing themselves they blame others for their problems. You were targeted because you've done something with your life and a lot of people don't like that. This was less about who you are and more about what you've been able to do despite what some in society feel. We have never fit in with any group a lot of family and friends because we're gay and the gay community because we are conservative Republicans. I have this joke that life's so easy being a fat gay Conservative Republican, nobody likes you. But I've never let that change who I am and if you try to get me down I'll just get one over on you. Take some time to mourn and process but just keep in mind it's your success and your passion for life that will keep you going.
Funny story about small town texas. About a month ago I was getting some gas in Caldwell in central texas and this panhandler approached me and I turned him down. So then he heads on over to the next set of pumps and approaches what appears to be this lesbian couple who are pulling their prized possession horses in a very very nice horse trailer. So they had the panhandler get in the back seat of the truck and took him down to the local church.
Hello T&T! FYI- I found your Airbnb listings very easily. The part that concerned me is that you have maps posted on how to get to your properties even before a person has booked. You may want to rethink this one as that could be how the hate crime was committed. I host rooms in the Southern CA market, and I would never post a specific address (google maps in my photos) to my property until after the booking is made and I am reasonably comfortable with the person that made the booking. I bet you get some traffic to your Airbnbs from this channel and I understand that. I send this message with love and well wishes!
@@tylerandtodd I guys...this is the first time I have commented on one of your videos even thought me and the kids (four boston Terriers) look forward to every Sunday, but anyways sorry.......I agree with Joseph...I have a couple of properties also and friends that have them and we learned the hard way also.....and took all address info of until they are confirmed and then i send private email with address and directions to them. now one that I have in NOLA you can see the area it is in but never had a problem with that one. i hate to be "that" person that dont trust people but in this world you still have to be careful...take care of your selves and keep doing what you are doing.
I also agree. I NEVER give out the address of a vacation rental until it's reserved. The map has a circle of a general area of the property . People that know the area well could likely figure it out from photos, but why make it easier?

I think that the silver lining behind this channel is that you have a LOT of support from folks like me who believe in all the good, creative, and positive things you are doing. Ever since the pandemic first struck in March, I have found myself following your channel and your projects. It almost feels like I've known both of you for so long even though we've never met. For people like me who are shut in from the pandemic, this has been a great channel to follow. Thank you for doing what you do. Please keep it up and don't let the bad people steal the joy and kindness you share with those of us who really love you.
Another idea if you guys are worried about people driving into your property (if you haven't already done this) is to get a driveway alarm that has a motion sensor or cable that goes under the driveway and makes a noise when someone goes on your driveway. Also a trail camera mounted on a tree that faces towards the driveway, so if someone does come onto your land, you can see who it was or what vehicle/license plate. We cover ours with a bird house so it's not noticeable. The gate looks great and I love your videos!!

@@tylerandtodd As to the hole in the gate, I say “maker ‘er look intentional.” Pickup a 2”carriage bolt of the diameter of the hole along with washer and nut at your nearest Kent or HD made out of the same metal as the hinge pins and gate hinges so it matches. Tap ‘er it in with the round end facing the outside of the gate, add the washer & nut at the other end - tighten ever so slightly and voila, hole filled and the gate looks even a tad more robust. Heck for proper gay balance, perspective and curb appeal, maybe add another to the bottom hinge location.

I'm in Australia and love watching you two. You are a highlight of my week. Don't give in to the haters, please. We were in a very strict lockdown for almost 4 months, and we weren't allowed to go anywhere. We are coming out of it now and we haven't had any new cases of Covid 19 and for about 38 days now. We were very lucky to have a state gov who made the hard decisions and we hope that now it is behind us. I really hope the same thing happens there. Good luck.

I’m so sorry guys. You don’t deserve any of that. I know things feel lonely with Covid so I wanted to share something with you both. When I first came out my mom didn’t speak to me for almost a year. She didn’t acknowledge my partner for almost 2 years after that. When I proposed in May 2020 she threatened to throw me out. BUT Yesterday she told me and my partner that she loves us both for the first time. Your videos got me through some of these dark times. They have been my happy place every week. Thank you for the community you have created. I don’t know where I would be without it. I hope that someday this feeling fades away. Dear Tyler and Todd, After viewing your post I watched the "Matthew Shepard Story". I am so sorry you had to go through that 'hate crime' a few mos. ago. I have always admired your efforts to make our world a better place with your honesty. It has given me hope that society has become more understanding of your love. Your commitment to each other as a couple warms my heart. Your openness must give many people the courage to accept who they are and love who they want to love. Over 10 yrs. ago I attended a church service with my family on Father's Day when home to MN. The minister spoke about how the only true love God accepted was between a man and a woman. He called his wife to the pulpit as an example. She appeared so embarrassed. As a nurse I met co-workers and patients that were LGBTQ. I heard of their struggles. I read books about even children who felt their attraction to the same sex at age 6, 7 or older. I imagined children and young teens feeling shamed by that sermon. I was angry inside myself; even depressed for mos. feeling sadness for all the people who were shamed by such beliefs. I shared it with my college kids and late husband. I am happy my children and late husband are/were accepting of the LGBTQ community. You two are a wonderful testimony to TRUE LOVE. I would be proud to be your mom! I do understand the CO-VID isolation sadness. It did not touch me til lately; I always claim I do not mind being alone. My Maxim (lab) is now 9 1/2;; I took in 3 kittens in August. I had never raised kittens before; only adopting adult cats. Like your Eddie and Charlie they want to be with me constantly. I am sooooo proud of Maxim. He even gives them kisses and sleeps on the bed with them. I just KNEW it would happen. Good luck with your cabin! D

Because of these things, all of my friends except my ex have abandoned me. So I know how lonely things can get as I live alone since the breakup. My point however, is to let you both know this. However that view can be negative. Telling people to not think about it and don’t let it get to you is easier said than done and if anything is more damaging. Let the experience hurt you, identify the pain, face it and move on is the best option to deal with it healthily
Guys, throw together a plan that is close to what you want and present that, you can always change things after you get your permits. Also, get a hydraulic log splitter.
Scott has the right idea on how to get your permits. Does anybody else have ideas on our guys can secure their needed permits? (Getting a hydraulic log splitter will free up time for things.)
The last 4 years I've had a rude awakening. I was nieve to the hatred that exists in the states, almost 50 50! People don't realize the fear and frustration you have experienced. When you shared what had happened I felt fear for your safety. And sick that people think they have the right to act this way. issue all over the world. i think having it and talking about it more.. helps ppl realize its not the evil hidden in closet bad thing. u realize they r normal and ok. its magazines,news,tvradio,churches made gay such a bad hidden thing. its not more people understand it now. growing up church taught us how bad it was and the devil would get u. This is where when editing one's own videos one becomes a self-producer before and during videos, as well - try to avoid that as much as possible. Yes, it will make your job easier but the end result will feel more contrived or one feeling that one is cherry-picking their experience to film. Film it all and edit things later - adjust the posting schedule to match what you're comfortable with. With that said, this community loves you and will support whatever you decide to do. I know I will. Go for a drive, hike, workout, treat yourself, or bump and grind a little to give yourselves a break from the monotony that is self-quarantining! Best wishes, guys!

I am 80 years old and ran across you guys about a year ago. I sort of think of you as my oldest grandsons. I am in awe of your adventurous spirit and physical strength as you tackle your jobs in the woods. I worry about you being so isolated pit there even though you have an idyllic setting for your lives. I was enraged when you shared your experience of a hate crime. Any kind of assault can chip away at your feelings of personal safety which takes along time to recover. Don't be hesitant to take a day away from each other. My wife and I had our own jobs that gave us some space away from each other. Our marriage lasted for 47 years until her sudden death 3years ago. I hope the S.O.B's who were responsible for the assault are awaiting trial somewhere. Be strong and know that there is obviously a ton of love coming your way.
I am so sorry that you ever have to deal with this level of emotional turmoil. I spent my entire high school days being bullied for being “fat.” I missed out on so many things during those years. I don’t feel anyone should be shunned or shamed for any reason. I look forward to watching the two of you and your fur babies every week. I laugh with ya’ll and I definitely cry with y’all. The whole month of December is a horrible time for me. I won't go into the sad details but I'm telling you this to let you know how the videos of your life in Canada and on the road has been very comforting to me . I think all this self-isolation, lack of control and socialize.... really gets to one. So, I totally understand. Even for the holidays, the typical family situation is impossible. I've only gotten 5 minutes into the video, but I just need to say this (sorry if it's elsewhere, I don't read all the comments): you guys, you were ASSAULTED. Just because the legal system calls it "vandalism" doesn't mean your person wasn't hurt. Give yourself permission to have shifting boundaries and the knowledge that you aren't obliged to share everything with the people who watch your videos. We're not in your debt, YOU are providing US with something enjoyable, YOU are doing US a favor (I know our attention is what we give you, but that's a different discussion). Bottom line : you do what you want, stay safe, heal your emotions, feel what you feel, and know that we support you 100%! PS Suppressing your emotions is a great way for them to fester, unresolved! Please don't stuff them down or ignore them.
I just want to say, thank you so much posting such happy videos and such real difficult videos like this one. This year has been a shit show and everyone's getting shit. Seeing videos like this makes me feel like I'm not going crazy and everyone is feeling all kinds of things.

Sometimes I support my husband when he needs it. Sometimes he supports me when I need it. Sometimes we have to support each other against the outside forces that conspire against us both but, in the 16 years we've been together, 2020 has REALLY tested everyone's relationships, including ours. This pharmacist is certain that this pandemic is going to pass (probably like a mid-sized kidney stone), the vaccines are coming, life will return to a "new normal", and you guys will get back on the road. Thanks to you two for being brave and vulnerable. As Brene Brown says "vulnerability is our greatest measure of courage." It is very understandable that you are feeling that way you are; we have all been under a collective trauma for the past 9 months. You also had the additional trauma of a hate crime which attacked a core facet of your identity, which is probably why you are feeling reserved and not wanting to show yourselves anymore. The reservedness is probably a trauma response--one of our bodies and minds way of protecting ourselves. Please continue to treat yourselves with kindness; you both very much deserve it!!

This was obviously a difficult video to make but just wanted to say thank you for being such a positive and supportive community. We’re thinking we can’t be the only ones feeling lonely lately, especially this close to the holidays. I think I share that with many of my generation. We hid for so long it completely shaped us. I cry watching you guys. There is just something about your struggle, your love, and of course your dogs that appeals to my heart. The work appeals to me too. I can but agree with Jane, "Don't let those bastards get you down!" Having to live through a hate crime does leave a trace for sure, we all understand this... and we're all here for your support. And let me tell you this, Tyler... your vulnerability at the beginning of the video is a wonderful thing. Not that it shows a soft side, but that it shows a "human" side. I have dealt with homophobia/hate crime. I refused to let someone's hate dictate the one short life I have. By being my authentic self I know I have helped others. You guys are doing that now. Never let hate win.
Changing yourself means that they have won. We've been through that before, part of living in small Texas towns. For me it just confirmed that we were doing what was right. Never let hate win, never.

There will always be jerks in the world. People usually only act like that when their beliefs are challenged and someone who they believe is inferior has become more successful and happy than they are. It makes them mad at their own life but instead of fixing themselves they blame others for their problems. You were targeted because you've done something with your life and a lot of people don't like that. This was less about who you are and more about what you've been able to do despite what some in society feel.
We have never fit in with any group a lot of family and friends because we're gay and the gay community because we are conservative Republicans. I have this joke that life's so easy being a fat gay Conservative Republican, nobody likes you. But I've never let that change who I am and if you try to get me down I'll just get one over on you. Take some time to mourn and process but just keep in mind it's your success and your passion for life that will keep you going.
Funny story about small town texas. About a month ago I was getting some gas in Caldwell in central texas and this panhandler approached me and I turned him down. So then he heads on over to the next set of pumps and approaches what appears to be this lesbian couple who are pulling their prized possession horses in a very very nice horse trailer. So they had the panhandler get in the back seat of the truck and took him down to the local church.
Hello T&T! FYI- I found your Airbnb listings very easily. The part that concerned me is that you have maps posted on how to get to your properties even before a person has booked. You may want to rethink this one as that could be how the hate crime was committed. I host rooms in the Southern CA market, and I would never post a specific address (google maps in my photos) to my property until after the booking is made and I am reasonably comfortable with the person that made the booking. I bet you get some traffic to your Airbnbs from this channel and I understand that. I send this message with love and well wishes!

@@tylerandtodd I guys...this is the first time I have commented on one of your videos even thought me and the kids (four boston Terriers) look forward to every Sunday, but anyways sorry.......I agree with Joseph...I have a couple of properties also and friends that have them and we learned the hard way also.....and took all address info of until they are confirmed and then i send private email with address and directions to them. now one that I have in NOLA you can see the area it is in but never had a problem with that one. i hate to be "that" person that dont trust people but in this world you still have to be careful...take care of your selves and keep doing what you are doing.
I also agree. I NEVER give out the address of a vacation rental until it's reserved. The map has a circle of a general area of the property . People that know the area well could likely figure it out from photos, but why make it easier?

I think that the silver lining behind this channel is that you have a LOT of support from folks like me who believe in all the good, creative, and positive things you are doing. Ever since the pandemic first struck in March, I have found myself following your channel and your projects. It almost feels like I've known both of you for so long even though we've never met. For people like me who are shut in from the pandemic, this has been a great channel to follow. Thank you for doing what you do. Please keep it up and don't let the bad people steal the joy and kindness you share with those of us who really love you.
Another idea if you guys are worried about people driving into your property (if you haven't already done this) is to get a driveway alarm that has a motion sensor or cable that goes under the driveway and makes a noise when someone goes on your driveway. Also a trail camera mounted on a tree that faces towards the driveway, so if someone does come onto your land, you can see who it was or what vehicle/license plate. We cover ours with a bird house so it's not noticeable. The gate looks great and I love your videos!!

@@tylerandtodd As to the hole in the gate, I say “maker ‘er look intentional.” Pickup a 2”carriage bolt of the diameter of the hole along with washer and nut at your nearest Kent or HD made out of the same metal as the hinge pins and gate hinges so it matches. Tap ‘er it in with the round end facing the outside of the gate, add the washer & nut at the other end - tighten ever so slightly and voila, hole filled and the gate looks even a tad more robust.
Heck for proper gay balance, perspective and curb appeal, maybe add another to the bottom hinge location.

When I first came out my mom didn’t speak to me for almost a year. She didn’t acknowledge my partner for almost 2 years after that. When I proposed in May 2020 she threatened to throw me out. BUT Yesterday she told me and my partner that she loves us both for the first time.
Your videos got me through some of these dark times. They have been my happy place every week. Thank you for the community you have created. I don’t know where I would be without it.
I hope that someday this feeling fades away. I hope you have your pep back in your step and feel just as proud and safe as you once did. You both deserve that!

Dear Tyler and Todd, After viewing your post I watched the "Matthew Shepard Story". I am so sorry you had to go through that 'hate crime' a few mos. ago. I have always admired your efforts to make our world a better place with your honesty. It has given me hope that society has become more understanding of your love. Your commitment to each other as a couple warms my heart. Your openness must give many people the courage to accept who they are and love who they want to love. Over 10 yrs. ago I attended a church service with my family on Father's Day when home to MN. The minister spoke about how the only true love God accepted was between a man and a woman. He called his wife to the pulpit as an example. She appeared so embarrassed. As a nurse I met co-workers and patients that were LGBTQ. I heard of their struggles. I read books about even children who felt their attraction to the same sex at age 6, 7 or older. I imagined children and young teens feeling shamed by that sermon. I was angry inside myself; even depressed for mos. feeling sadness for all the people who were shamed by such beliefs. I shared it with my college kids and late husband. I am happy my children and late husband are/were accepting of the LGBTQ community. You two are a wonderful testimony to TRUE LOVE. I would be proud to be your mom! I do understand the CO-VID isolation sadness. It did not touch me til lately; I always claim I do not mind being alone. My Maxim (lab) is now 9 1/2;; I took in 3 kittens in August. I had never raised kittens before; only adopting adult cats. Like your Eddie and Charlie they want to be with me constantly. I am sooooo proud of Maxim. He even gives them kisses and sleeps on the bed with them. I just KNEW it would happen. Good luck with your cabin! D

Because of these things, all of my friends except my ex have abandoned me. So I know how lonely things can get as I live alone since the breakup. My point however, is to let you both know this. Guys, throw together a plan that is close to what you want and present that, you can always change things after you get your permits. Also, get a hydraulic log splitter.
Scott has the right idea on how to get your permits. Does anybody else have ideas on our guys can secure their needed permits? (Getting a hydraulic log splitter will free up time for things.)
The last 4 years I've had a rude awakening. I was nieve to the hatred that exists in the states, almost 50 50! People don't realize the fear and frustration you have experienced. When you shared what had happened I felt fear for your safety. And sick that people think they have the right to act this way. issue all over the world. i think having it and talking about it more.. helps ppl realize its not the evil hidden in closet bad thing. u realize they r normal and ok. its magazines,news,tvradio,churches made gay such a bad hidden thing. its not more people understand it now. growing up church taught us how bad it was and the devil would get u. Building and that stuff does not appear to be your primary calling yet you harbor no fear in tackling just about any project and you are certainly not afraid of hard work! I am so sad that you had to suffer through a hate crime. It is always sad and hard when bad things happen to good people. And you guys are surely good people. You bring joy and inspiration to many people who would love to be adventurous like you but don’t have the confidence. You are building your own slice of heaven and that is commendable. Be yourselves. This is where when editing one's own videos one becomes a self-producer before and during videos, as well - try to avoid that as much as possible. Yes, it will make your job easier but the end result will feel more contrived or one feeling that one is cherry-picking their experience to film. Film it all and edit things later - adjust the posting schedule to match what you're comfortable with. With that said, this community loves you and will support whatever you decide to do. I know I will. Go for a drive, hike, workout, treat yourself, or bump and grind a little to give yourselves a break from the monotony that is self-quarantining! Best wishes, guys!

I am 80 years old and ran across you guys about a year ago. I sort of think of you as my oldest grandsons. I am in awe of your adventurous spirit and physical strength as you tackle your jobs in the woods. I worry about you being so isolated pit there even though you have an idyllic setting for your lives. I was enraged when you shared your experience of a hate crime. Any kind of assault can chip away at your feelings of personal safety which takes along time to recover. Don't be hesitant to take a day away from each other. My wife and I had our own jobs that gave us some space away from each other. Our marriage lasted for 47 years until her sudden death 3years ago. I hope the S.O.B's who were responsible for the assault are awaiting trial somewhere. Be strong and know that there is obviously a ton of love coming your way.
I am so sorry that you ever have to deal with this level of emotional turmoil. I spent my entire high school days being bullied for being “fat.” I missed out on so many things during those years. I don’t feel anyone should be shunned or shamed for any reason. I look forward to watching the two of you and your fur babies every week. I laugh with ya’ll and I definitely cry with y’all. The whole month of December is a horrible time for me. You are not alone in these melancholy feelings. I literally had some physical affects ( light headed, dizzy, momentary passing out) earlier in the week which was very upsetting. I think all this self-isolation, lack of control and socialize.... really gets to one. So, I totally understand. Even for the holidays, the typical family situation is impossible. I've only gotten 5 minutes into the video, but I just need to say this (sorry if it's elsewhere, I don't read all the comments): you guys, you were ASSAULTED. Just because the legal system calls it "vandalism" doesn't mean your person wasn't hurt. Give yourself permission to have shifting boundaries and the knowledge that you aren't obliged to share everything with the people who watch your videos. We're not in your debt, YOU are providing US with something enjoyable, YOU are doing US a favor (I know our attention is what we give you, but that's a different discussion). Bottom line : you do what you want, stay safe, heal your emotions, feel what you feel, and know that we support you 100%!
PS Suppressing your emotions is a great way for them to fester, unresolved! Please don't stuff them down or ignore them.
I just want to say, thank you so much posting such happy videos and such real difficult videos like this one. This year has been a shit show and everyone's getting shit. Seeing videos like this makes me feel like I'm not going crazy and everyone is feeling all kinds of things.

What you went through was traumatic. It's going to take some time to process that. It's ok to not be ok sometimes. Just make sure you're talking through this stuff with each other or others you trust because bottling it up can prolong the healing process. Sending lots of love and hugs your way!! ❤️

You remind me each week that a project or two or a million as Tyler put it, are a good way to cope. You’re the perfect example of how wonderful life can be when we set goals and objectives snd see them come to fruition. Sometimes I support my husband when he needs it. Sometimes he supports me when I need it. Sometimes we have to support each other against the outside forces that conspire against us both but, in the 16 years we've been together, 2020 has REALLY tested everyone's relationships, including ours. This pharmacist is certain that this pandemic is going to pass (probably like a mid-sized kidney stone), the vaccines are coming, life will return to a "new normal", and you guys will get back on the road. You both are a welcome addition to our Sunday evenings. Thank you so much to keeping on keeping on... Oh, and the hubs said a post holder in the concrete with a bolted post will last longer (for next time). We don't call him "the great over-builder" for nothing. Slán!

Thanks to you two for being brave and vulnerable. As Brene Brown says "vulnerability is our greatest measure of courage." It is very understandable that you are feeling that way you are; we have all been under a collective trauma for the past 9 months. You also had the additional trauma of a hate crime which attacked a core facet of your identity, which is probably why you are feeling reserved and not wanting to show yourselves anymore. The reservedness is probably a trauma response--one of our bodies and minds way of protecting ourselves. Please continue to treat yourselves with kindness; you both very much deserve it!!
Connie looks wonderful. You'll be so pleased to warm her up in the spring and get on the road. Something to look forward to for all of us. In the meantime, just know you have friends at a distance. Stay toasty warm and loving.

I speak for everyone. I can tell you this. I'm a senior citizen living of grid. You guy's have given me so many wonderful ideas. I absolutely love your personalities. Some moma advice. Stay true to you and keep your your positive attitudes.
