how is this inflation?
I paid $479 for a pixel 3a xl when it was released. So here we are 5 years later and $21 more and people complain. People aren't even realistic

Based on the specs, the pixel is 8 is definitely not worth 699. Not anywhere near that. The pixel 8 is a 499 tops phone.

In Canada at BestBuy (with a $150 discount), I just picked up a Pixel 8a for $398 US (or $529 CDN)! No brainer to go with a Pixel 8a given how comparable it is to the 8.
In sweden the 8a is almost 30% cheaper. The specs are almost identical so i think it actually is a good choice to go for the 8a
In France, currently, the Pixel 8 is at 599 € and the 8a at 549 €. So, the 8 is a better choice.

even if that wasn't the case most people in the US will buy this on contract so a $500 lease is less than a $700 lease. That's what you missed because that's my situation. It's less stressful owing T-Mobile $500 than $700

When the 8a eventually goes on sale for $399 or $350, it will be the best in the game, but 2024 has become a banner year for the upper midrange. Google's advantage at the current $499 price point is gone unless you are specifically a Pixel fan (as I am). The MSRP is probably fair as compared to the MSRP of the 8, as the difference is $200. The issue is that they both cost a bit too much. Even a default $50 less would be a huge difference as a value proposition.
This is like 620 usd in Norway, mid range budget indeed :P
The price difference is $200. People keep saying it’s only $50 more but that isn’t true. The Pixel 8 went back to $699 as soon as the 8a dropped. It will certainly go on sale again, but the 8a will as well. Google will maintain a price difference. It’s not as simple as it’s just $50 more for the Pixel 8.
Exactly. And tbh if we're playing waiting games for pricing then how far do you go? Just wait another year and you can get a 8 pro for £400? It's childish focusing on price constantly. Also...99% of folk do not use anywhere near the capabilities of any smartphone. You like rounded edges and matt finishes? Get the 8a. Performance is going to have zero noticeable difference for the majority of people.
The 8a was supposed to launch at $550 too.

I think for the price, 8a is the way to go. $850 AUD vs $1200 AUD for the 8 here in Australia. With a discount its possible to get it down by around $200 or so.
Still, I struggle to see the need to upgrade from my 2-3 year old Pixel 5, which still works really well and takes great photos.
I wish the focus came back to value for money when it comes to phones. Also size.. how long can phones keep getting bigger!?

Why does it cost closer?
The 8 & 8a are practically the same with some caveats.
Same processor (Underclocked on 8a)
Bezels are irrelevant seriously build a bridge & get over it most people use a case & the bezels protect the display.
Same ram
Same storage (Not sure if the storage or ram is slower on the 8a).
I do wish they'd kill of the regular 8 & kist offer a 8a & 8 pro more distinction & they could use the extra money to make the 8 series better.
I want a better fingerprint sensor like the Galaxy phones & better face unlock along with faster storage & TSMC chips as they're better with battery life.

I got a pixel 8 pro. And is really good for the price and specks. I have no negative comments really, very impressive with the battery. But I don't understand why 8a has been created? Don't get it.

Horrible overpriced horrible pixel 8. This reminds me of a knock off cell phone. Pictures are horrible. Save your money, and stay away . I wish I would have researched before buying this garbage
Canada Its preorder on Amazon at 679 - 140 promo= 539CAD (395 US) and the Pixel 8 here I cant find anywhere less than 900$ CAD (695 US)
This price difference I think makes the 8a worth it.
